Like fathers like sons. And daughters.
While the Beach Boys are currently enjoying a massive 50th anniversary tour around North America, a bunch of their kids have started a tribute band of their own, and they're all performing together in perfect familial harmony.
"California Saga" is made up of Brian Wilson's daughters Carnie and Wendy (Aka members of Wilson Phillips), Mike Love's son Christian and his daughter Ambha, Carl Wilson's son Justyn, Dennis Wilson's son Carl, and Al Jardine's sons Matt and Adam. On June 2 they performed live for the first time at the Beach Boys' Los Angeles tour stop at the Hollywood Bowl and on July 10 they will perform again with the band at L.A's Grammy Museum.
Carnie Wilson recently told The Guardian that she hopes California Saga will actually step into a studio and record together, but for now she's just excited...

Burbank, Calif. — A "miracle."
That's the word Al Jardine not-so-jokingly uses to describe the latest Beach Boys reunion – this one consisting of himself and fellow founding Beach Boys Brian Wilson and Mike Love, as well as longtime players Bruce Johnston and David Marks.
After decades of prolonged separations, legal spats and near reunions, the core Beach Boys are back together, both on stage and for an upcoming new album. Their rebirth, which became a reality earlier this year when the group performed "Good Vibrations" with Maroon 5 and Foster the People at the Grammys, has reawakened musical memories for 69-year-old Jardine.
"When I'm rehearsing over there, I'm hearing stuff I haven't performed for many years," Jardine said during a recent break from rehearsals for the iconic band's 50th anniversary tour, which kicked off last week in Tucson, Ariz.
"It's wonderful to rediscover the music that way. When you're recording three albums a year,...

Chicago – Both rock ‘n roll and the California culture would be completely different without the sound and influence of The Beach Boys. One of the founding members of the legendary band is Al Jardine, who in 1961 was a schoolboy friend of Brian Wilson when he joined the fledgling group. Jardine has released a new solo album called “A Postcard from California” and embarks on a 50th Anniversary Tour with The Beach Boys starting later this month.

“A Postcard from California” is Jardine’s first solo album, which showcases his personal style combined with the classic renderings of “The Beach Boys sound.” This is a love letter to his adopted state (Jardine was born in Ohio) from someone who contributed mightily to the California dream. Most of the songs were penned by Jardine, and many of his famous friends took part,...

If you're a fan of nostalgia and classic rock, 2012 will bring with it an especially awesome treat: a reunion tour from the Beach Boys!
That's right, Brian Wilson, Mike Love, Al Jardine, Bruce Johnston and David Marks have finally puts years of lawsuits and bitter press spats behind them – "All that stuff is long forgotten," Love tells Rolling Stone – and are hitting the road for a 50-date 50th anniversary tour. The tour kickoff will officially go down at the New Orleans Jazz Fest in late April, but the group is planning something for the Grammys in February.
"There will be a surprise at the Grammys," Jardine tells Rs. "We'll do something really exciting. There's a lot of interest in it, which is nice. It's going to be a very big operation."

Even though Britney Spears has sold over 100 million albums worldwide over the course of her decade-plus career, she still seems like something of an underdog every time she releases a new project. Perhaps it's because of the fickle nature of pop music, or perhaps it's because nobody can believe that Spears continues to top herself over and over again. Her eighth album Femme Fatale hits stores today (Tuesday, March 29) and is the follow-up to her ultra-successful and boundary-pushing 2008 release Circus. Is this yet another home run for Spears?
According to the critics, she has done it again. "On Femme Fatale, her seventh studio album and plainly one of her best, the erstwhile teen-pop princess is less the center of sonic attention than the occasion and enabler for a dozen of the age's most accomplished record producers to show off their wildest moves from behind a plastic Britney mask," wrote the...

Singer/songwriter Brian Wilson, founder of The Beach Boys.
During my time at Venice Magazine I was lucky enough to meet and interview most of my heroes from the world of film. Fortune smiled on me further when a few musical idols were thrown into the mix, as well (see previously-posted chats with Lou Reed, Quincy Jones and Robbie Robertson). When I learned in October of 2002 that I was going to interview legendary Beach Boys frontman Brian Wilson, I was elated. I had gotten to literally stand next to Wilson nearly a decade earlier, at the 1995 Sundance Film Festival, while he gave a private recital, just Wilson and a white Steinway, for a small gathering of people in a Park City tavern, celebrating the premiere of Don Was’ documentary "Brian Wilson: I Just Wasn’t Made for These Times," which took a candid look at Wilson’s tumultuous life.

A new Calvin Klein billboard featuring Eva Mendes has stirred up controversy. The huge advertisement, which displays the "Ghost Rider" actress donning sexy lingerie and cuddling passionately to model Jamie Dornan, insinuated some people into thinking of it as "pornography."
The billboard takes up the entire side of a building on the corner of Houston Street and Lafayette Street in Soho, New York City. While some residents admired it, others were up in arms as they wanted it to be taken down. Carl Wilson, a worker from Queens, said, "Some of us don't want to expose our kids to something like this - it's borderline pornography."
Back in June, several pics that showed Eva Mendes posing for Calvin Klein Jeans and Underwear have hit the web. In some black and white images for the brand's Fall 2009 campaign, she was photographed showing off various kinds of sexy underwear when striking poses along with Jamie Dornan.

Every year, we admit to ourselves that there’s no way we can keep up with the flood of new books; none of us try to read them all, so none of us feel equipped to provide a definitive “best books of 2008.” That said, of everything we did read this year, we most loved the following: Andy Battaglia Jonathan Miles, Dear American Airlines (Houghton Mifflin) Jonathan Miles’ uproarious, affecting Dear American Airlines takes the form of a complaint letter from an airport refugee, which expands, digresses, and extrapolates into a novel not the least bit oppressed by its conceit. The central character is a ragged old man on his way to his estranged daughter’s wedding, and he winds up unspooling the threads of his entire life in stirring, surprising, comic fashion. Runner-up Carl Wilson, Let’s Talk About Love: A Journey To...
