Kenneth Branagh has spent much of his career bringing to life the works of British writers William Shakespeare and Agatha Christie. Now he will not get a chance to play a different famed scribe. Branagh will voice star as Charles Dickens in The King of Kings, a faith-based feature inspired by the lives of both Dickens and Jesus Christ.
Uma Thurman will voice star as Catherine Dickens, the wife of the author, while Jojo Rabbit‘s Roman Griffin Davis will voice the couple’s youngest son, Walter.
The King of Kings is inspired by “The Life of Our Lord,” a Dickens short story published in 1934, decades after his death. It follows Dickens and Walter as they — and their cat Willa — become immersed in the story of Jesus.

Tom Lockyer, a team captain for the Premier League’s Luton Town soccer club, was in stable condition Saturday at the hospital after suffering cardiac arrest on the field during a match.
The match between Luton and host Bournemouth was abandoned after Lockyer collapsed during the 59th minute. Peacock was carrying the match in the U.S. as part of the NBCUniversal streaming service’s Premier League deal.
“Our medical staff have confirmed that the Hatters captain suffered cardiac arrest on the pitch, but was responsive by the time he was taken off on the stretcher,” the team said in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
“He received further treatment inside the stadium, for which we once again thank the medical teams from both sides. Tom was transferred to hospital, where we can reassure supporters that he is stable and currently undergoing further tests with his family at his bedside.

Disney may have shut down Robert Zemeckis' ImageMovers studio within their walls, but they are not out of the Robert Zemeckis business after all. The studio has hired The Princess and the Frog scribe Rob Edwards to write the Zemeckis-produced movie Animated American. It's about a cartoon baby who lives with a live-action family until he is 18 year old. He then goes in search of his "bio" family with the help of a friend and her jealous boyfriend.

But the writer/director/producer/innovator Is the guy behind Back to the Future, Cast Away, and Polar Express, so he does seem like the kind of filmmaker any studio would want to be in business with. "The Princess and the Frog" scribe Rob Edwards has been brought aboard to pen two high-profile features - "Amulet" for Warner Bros. Pictures and "Animated American" for Disney Pictures reports Variety.
Based on Kazu Kibuishi's comic, "Amulet" follows a teenage brother and sister who are pulled into a mystical world of monsters where they learn they're the last in a line of gatekeepers who must control a powerful amulet to save the world.
Will Smith and his son Jaden had been loosely attached to star, but that's uncertain right now. Smith and James Lassiter are set to produce through their Overbrook Entertainment label.
Robert Zemeckis is producing "Animated American" which revolves around an animated baby raised by a live-action family until his 18th birthday. He then sets out to find his real family with the help of his friend and her jealous boyfriend.

The director of Who Framed Roger Rabbit might be making a second movie that blends the worlds of traditional animation and live action together. Robert Zemeckis, who's spent the majority of the last decade in the world of motion capture performance filmmaking, is now attached to a new Walt Disney project called Animated American.
Just as Roger Rabbit had a main character who was animated and interacting with the real world, so too is the hook for Animated American -- except this time, the toon isn't a rabbit. The movie is about an cartoon infant who gets raised to adulthood by live-action parents. When the kid reaches the age of 18, he sets out to learn who his real parents were and why he was left to be raised by flesh and blood folk. Joining the toon teen is a human friend and her jealous boyfriend.

Disney is going to work on developing a new live-action animated hybrid film called Animated America. Robert Zemeckis, Bob Cooper and Dan Fogelman are all attached to produce the film. Chicago – The importance of Disney’s “The Princess and the Frog” should not be underestimated in that it not only successfully brought back hand-drawn, 2D animation in an era dominated by CGI but it presented an American fairy tale for African-American children and adults everywhere. It’s a lovely little film with a few flaws that are easy to overlook with such a marvelous Blu-ray presentation.
Blu-Ray Rating: 4.0/5.0
Only the most cynical critic could look at the video transfer of “The Princess and the Frog” with its bright colors, perfect line detail, and gorgeous backdrops and not marvel at one of the best-looking releases of the year to date. At home, “Princess” is a more beautiful film than I remember it being in theaters and it’s starting to feel like Disney films might actually be a more complete experience on Blu-ray than they are on celluloid.

Disney's new cartoon The Princess and the Frog has an African-American heroine, but it's taken a long time to get to this point
When you consider the pantheon of classic Disney characters, chances are that Sunflower the Centaur doesn't spring to mind. Sunflower is the young black centaur in Fantasia, and if that still doesn't ring any bells, it's because she's absent from any official version of the movie you'll see today.
From the waist up, Sunflower is – or was – a textbook example of the "pickaninny" caricature. Neither her looks, nor her subservience to the graceful, silky-haired white centaurs, caused much fuss in 1940, but shifting, civil-rights era sensibilities saw Sunflower snipped from Fantasia's 1960 rerelease. (By this time Disney had also given us Dumbo's jive-talking crows – one of whom is actually named Jim Crow – and a romanticised view of post-slavery race relations in Song of the South.)
