The CW’s take on The Lost Boys appears to be cursed. The show is intended to be a contemporary TV reboot of the classic 1987 movie, giving us sexy young vampires looking dead cool, having sexy blood-sucking times and floating extremely creepily in a pretty resort town. What could go wrong? Well, quite a lot, as it turns out.
The show had recently begun shooting a pilot episode, only for the Covid-19 pandemic to shut the production down. But material was filmed and The CW executives have now had an opportunity to review the footage, and it seems they’re not particularly enthused with what they’ve seen.
As such, it’s being reported that The Lost Boys is being “rolled,” meaning it’ll be now be reevaluated as a prospect for the 2021/22 season. This may indicate that when lockdown restrictions lift, the show won’t be heading back before...

The CW’s pilot for The Lost Boys is taking shape. The show will be a fresh take on the classic 1987 movie of the same name, presumably featuring a new family arriving in Santa Carla and realizing that the nightlife has a little more bite than they were expecting.
The series is being helmed by Heather Mitchell and Rob Thomas, who share an impressive resume that includes Scandal, Veronica Mars and iZombie. And now, Deadline is reporting that Branden Cook (Industry), Lincoln Younes (Grand Hotel) and Ruby Cruz (Castle Rock) have been cast as the show’s leads.
Branden Cook will play the main character, Garrett. He’s the oldest brother in the family that’s moved to the seaside town, and the one who’s slowly drawn into its vampiric subculture. Lincoln Younes is taking over the Kiefer Sutherland character Benjamin, presenting a seductive image of freedom and immortal youth.

Two weeks ago, it was all change for The CW and its TV revival of The Lost Boys.
Despite drafting together an exciting ensemble cast for the planned pilot, and shooting said pilot episode in May of this year, the Powers That Be ordered The Lost Boys back to the drawing board soon after the first test footage emerged. Put simply, The CW’s top brass were impressed with the script, but believed the execution was lacking.
And so began a total overhaul, after it was announced that the network would recast its Lost Boys revival, sparing just two actors: Medalion Rahimi and Dakota Shapiro. The former is attached to the part of Stella (essentially an updated version of the Star character from ’87), while Shapiro is David.
But rest assured, as Rob Thomas tells EW, The Lost Boys reboot is nearing the warm light of day.

Just when you thought The CW’s TV reboot of The Lost Boys was gaining some momentum, Deadline brings word that the project has effectively been sent back to the drawing board – recasting all but two roles.
Of the ensemble that was in place for The Lost Boys, only two – namely Medalion Rahimi and Dakota Shapiro – remain. The former is attached to the part of Stella (essentially an updated version of the Star character from ’87), while Shapiro is David.
According to Deadline, together they’ll headline the “new, reworked pilot, which will likely film by the end of the year.” So, while they initially signed on for The CW’s pilot episode, the likes of Rio Mangini (Sam) Sarah Hay, Del Zamora, Cheyenne Haynes, Haley Tju, Tyler Posey and Kiele Sanchez won’t be heading to the vampire underworld, after all.
It’s a pity, really, but given the fact...

The CW series adaptation of The Lost Boys has cast two more actors. Rio Mangini (Everything Sucks) is set to take on the lead role of Sam, Michael’s younger brother, who is being played by Tyler Posey. His “high level of literacy is matched by an equally high level of snark. He seems to be the only one not enchanted by Santa Carla — a sentiment he shares with a pair of local girls, the Frog Sisters.”
Then there’s Del Zamora (Mayans Mc), who will play Frank Garcia, Lucy’s father, “a cantankerous old hippie who owns a beloved local bed and breakfast. In spite of his laid-back appearance, he’s a strict disciplinarian who probably knows more about the dark side of town than he cares to tell.”

Casting on The Lost Boys TV show is really beginning to heat up – and fast.
Earlier this month, for instance, we brought you the news that The CW had cast Sarah Hay, Cheyanne Haynes and Haley Tju as the infamous Frog Sisters, who now join an ensemble cast comprised of Teen Wolf star Tyler Posey, Kiele Sanchez, Medalion Rahimi (Still Star-Crossed) and Dakota Shapiro. Not bad, right?
But that’s not all: Per Deadline, it’s been confirmed that Del Zamora (Mayans Mc) and Rio Mangini (Everything Sucks!) have also climbed aboard The Lost Boys as series regulars, with the latter star poised to step into the shoes left vacant by the late, great Corey Haim. Yes, that’s right; he’ll be playing Sam Emerson in The CW’s pilot episode – itself based on the 1987 movie of the same name – though no further details on Mangini’s character were revealed at the time.

"Sleep all day. Party all night. Never grow old. Never die. It's fun to be a vampire." The Lost Boys TV reboot lives again with The CW announcing that it has officially ordered a pilot for the show.
The Lost Boys TV series has been ruminating at The CW since 2016. Now the network has confirmed that it has officially ordered a pilot of the reboot of the popular '80s vampire film. However, the network's retention of the project became contingent upon a radical retooling of the pilot script that also saw all but two of its cast members dismissed.
Rob Thomas, who created Veronica Mars and iZombie, was originally set to be the showrunner, writer and executive producer through his Spondoolie Productions, along with Danielle Stokdyk, Dan Etheridge, Mike Karz and Bill Bindley. Thomas remains on the project as an executive producer but he also has a busy dance card with the Veronica Mars revival set to debut this year on Hulu.

Emilio Estevez is the nihilistic Otto in Alex Cox's Repo Man.
Alex Cox’s (Searchers 2.0) singular science fiction comedy Repo Man remains the quintessential cult comedy film of the 1980s.
The 1984 movie stars the always captivating Harry Dean Stanton (Seven Psychopaths) as a weathered repo man in desolate downtown Los Angeles, and Emilio Estevez (The Breakfast Club) as the nihilistic middle-class punk he takes under his wing. The job becomes more than either of them bargained for when they get involved in reclaiming a mysterious—and otherworldly—Chevy Malibu with a hefty reward attached to it.
Featuring an ultimate early-eighties L.A. punk soundtrack featuring music from Black Flag, Suicidal Tendencies, The Circle Jerks, Fear and other, the grungily hilarious R-rated Repo Man still rules (while being a politically trenchant take on President Reagan’s domestic and foreign policy)!

“Let’s go get sushi and not pay.” Many films would kill to have as many quotable lines and memorable scenes as Repo Man has during its 92 minute running time. The 1984 cult classic may not have as large of a following as other cult films like The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Harold and Maude, and Heathers, but that doesn’t mean it shouldn’t. In fact, The Criterion Collection is here to remind us why we should pay more attention to this unique film that deftly blends 80′s punk culture, sci-fi weirdness, and Reagan-era politics. Director Alex Cox is most known for his following film Sid and Nancy – a film that documents the ups and down of the real-life rock and roll couple. However, the Oxford law student (yes, you read that correctly) released Repo Man two years prior as his feature length film debut. Emilio Estevez and Harry Dean Stanton...

True Blood
“In the Beginning” Air Date: 7/22/2012
Last week ended with one of the most surprising deaths in the annals of True Blood, with Russell breaking free of his own execution to execute the head of the Authority, Christopher Meloni’s Roman. In just six episodes, Meloni had put a giant imprint onto the show, and his goals of mainstreaming vs. the sanguinistas was the most important and interesting storyline going on so far in this hectic, jam packed fifth season. Meloni was the best part of the new season thus far, so obviously Roman will be missed, but his death opens the door for the sanguinistas, and more voracious villainy from Denis O’Hare’s deliciously diabolical and “reborn” Russell Edgington. Turns out, Russell has tied his allegiance to that of Lilith, along with Nora (Lucy Griffiths) and…Salome (Valentina Cervi), who we find out was the one responsible...

Arguably the defining cult film of the Reagan era, Repo Man, the feature debut of Alex Cox (Sid & Nancy, Walker, Straight to Hell) is a genre-busting mash-up of atomic-age science fiction, post-punk anarchism, and conspiracy paranoia, all shot through with heavy doses of deadpan humour and offbeat philosophy.
After quitting his dead-end supermarket job, young punk Otto (Emilio Estevez) is initiated as a “repo man” after a chance encounter with automobile repossessor Bud (Harry Dean Stanton). An illicit, high-voltage life follows, including an adrenalised search for a mysterious ’64 Chevy Malibu loaded with radioactive – and extragalactic – cargo…
With an iconic soundtrack (Iggy Pop, Black Flag, Suicidal Tendencies), stunning Robby Müller cinematography, and iconoclastic direction, Repo Man remains one of the great debuts of the 1980s.
Special Director-approved Blu-ray Features:
New high-definition master in the original aspect ratio – 1.85:1 Original mono soundtrack and 5.1 remix, both in DTS-hd Master Audio English Sdh subtitles...

In Repo Chick, '80s punk provocateur Alex Cox turns his attention to the state of contemporary society. Needless to say, he doesn't like what he sees. And who can blame him. Even on the best of days, you have to admit it's pretty grim out there.
Told through the eyes of a Paris Hilton analogue, Repo Chick is the story of Pixxi de la Chasse (Jaclyn Jonet), a spoiled celebutante who's disinherited by her family for bad behavior. This forces her and her self-serving entourage out into the cold, cruel world. Luckily, Pixxi lands a job as a repo chick, which brings her into contact with some very bad people doing very weird things.
With his latest flick, Cox takes on the world in which we live, and everything is fair game.

Filmmaker Alex Cox's kooky comedy Repo Chick - the "official non-sequel" to his 1984 sci-fi cult classic Repo Man - is to get a Us theatrical release this month as it heads to DVD and Blu-ray.
It will open theatrically at the IFC Center in New York on January 14 and at the Downtown Independent in Los Angeles on January 21.
It will then hit stores on DVD and Blu-ray on February 8, as confirmed by Disc Dish.
Repo Chick was shot 98 per cent on greenscreen and also incorporated miniature sets and stop-motion animation.

Remember Alex Cox's 80's cult-classic sci-fi comedy 'Repo Man'? You know the one, the low-budget and extremely bizarre flick that starred Emilio Estevez and Harry Dean Stanton (and not to be confused with the recent 'Repo Men', starring Jude Law and Forest Whitaker). Well 25 years later and Cox is back with the 'unofficial non-sequel' 'Repo Chick'. It debuted at the Venice Film Festival in September 2009 and now will finally hit Us DVD shelves as well as screen in both New York and La next January. Check out the full synopsis and screening dates below. Jaclyn Jonet (below) stars as 'Repo Chick' and she's joined by Miguel Sandoval, Rosanna Arquette, Chloe Webb, Del Zamora, Alex Feldman, Xander Berkeley, Robert Beltran and Karen Black!...

On Monday evening, Ain't It Cool News' longtime film critic and entertainment writer Mr. Beaks hosted a q&a at Los Angeles' storied New Beverly Cinema for The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension. Although neither writer Earl Mac Rauch nor director W. D. Richter were in attendance, star Peter Weller and two members of Buckaroo Banzai's band, Billy Vera and Gerald Peterson, participated in a lively discussion about the film, fielded questions from the capacity crowd, and ruminated on the meaning (then and now) of this cult classic.
By comparison, the previous evening's q&a with cast members from Repo Man, including Harry Dean Stanton and Del Zamora, was underwhelming despite Stanton's reliable cantankerousness: Stanton seemed to have trouble hearing his fellow cast members, and eventually said that the session was going on forever. But as the last few seats got filled in, Mr. Beaks managed tenuously...

A trailer has premiered on youtube for Repo Chick, the "sequel" to Alex Cox's 1984 cult classic Repo Man, starring Emilo Estevez. I should say that I am, and always have been, a very big fan of Repo Man, but not really of Alex Cox as a director. So on that note, I should say that I'm not entirely sure what to make of Repo Chick. It's not quite as post-punk as I was hoping, but then again, I guess it's not 1984 anymore...

Searchers 2.0
Venice International Film Festival
VENICE, Italy -- Searchers 2.0, Alex Cox's first feature since 2002's Revengers Tragedy, is a road movie -- ah, we have had so many, some would moan -- but it goes a couple of steps beyond that. On the face of it, it is a tale of revenge and justice. Then, as the reels unfold, it is apparent that there is more nostalgia and longing than mere hard feelings, ingredients to get the work into the commercial circuit. In any case, it is hardly festival material, and even at the Venice Film Festival it was not part of the more serious and academic competition and outside competition sections.
The film opens with a beautiful sunrise in an American countryside. As we go along, there are equally stunning visuals captured to mesmeric effect by cinematographer Steven Fierberg. Aging Mel (Del Zamora) and Fred (Ed Pansullo) fancy themselves actors, but all that they have to their credit is a single performance as child artists in Buffalo Bill vs. Doc Holiday.
That sole appearance was enough for a lifetime, given the nasty experience on the set, where legendary screenwriter Fritz Frobisher (Sy Richardson) savaged them to get them wailing for a particular scene. Mel and Fred obviously have not forgotten the pain. Years later, they find a chance to avenge their humiliation when Frobisher agrees to a Q&A session at a screening of Buffalo Bill vs. Doc Holiday in Monument Valley.
Mel convinces daughter Delilah (Jaclyn Jonet) to drive them on the three-day road trip. The long journey exposes them to each other's idiosyncrasies. There are times when the movie is hilarious, but others when the script seems to be yawning, with not enough happening to keep the road run exciting. The old men's banter about Westerns and heroes like John Ford bores Delilah -- it might bore some of us as well. To add to this, she forgets to bring her nerve-calming medication, and thus suffers from an unusually severe "right-and-wrong syndrome."
Great visuals and peppy music spice up the story, which by itself is threadbare. The performances are even, though sparks of ingenuity can be seen in Richardson, in those scenes where he is confronted by Mel and Fred. The character of Delilah seems largely an embellishment that jars, and one suspects that she was put there in the first place as a relief in an all-male drama.
