Young was a host of the series "Look Up and Live" when it won a Peabody Award in 1960. He was associate director of the Department of Youth Work for the National Council of Churches from 1957 to 1960, and his duties included working on the program both in front of and behind the camera. He has said it was the knowledge of television he gained during these years at CBS that later enabled him to effectively advise Martin Luther King, Jr., on media strategy.
