Exclusive: Jeff Wachtel’s Future Shack Entertainment has acquired Kevin Wilson’s short story Grand Stand-In to develop as a limited series, with Gretchen Enders attached to adapt and produce the project.
In Wilson’s short story, an unmarried woman in her mid-fifties takes a job as a “supplemental family provider” with Grand Stand-In, a company that facilitates matches for well-to-do couples who have lost touch with their parents due to death, disease or distance; but who still want their children to have the “grandparent experience.” It all works out until the stand-in has to disengage from a family she’s become attached to.
Grand Stand-In is included in Wilson’s Tunneling To the Center of the Earth, a collection of short stories. Wilson’s The Family Fang novel was adapted into a 2015 feature with Jason Bateman, Nicole Kidman and Christopher Walken. His best-selling 2019 work Nothing to...

Each week, The Hollywood Reporter will offer up the best new (and newly relevant) books that everyone will be talking about — whether it’s a tome that’s ripe for adaptation, a new Hollywood-centric tell-all or the source material for a hot new TV show.
Rights Available
Parachute Women by Elizabeth Winder (LoTurco Literary)
Everyone knows The Rolling Stones, but fewer know the four women whose sense of adventure and know-how helped build the band. Here, Winder puts Marianne Faithfull, Marsha Hunt, Bianca Jagger and Anita Pallenberg at the forefront of the story.
The Boys From Biloxi by John Grisham (The Gernert Co.)
The legal thriller author’s latest release is one of his most epic. It’s the story of two friends growing up in 1960s Mississippi as the drama of the Dixie Mafia — mobsters who ruled Biloxi — swirled around them, haunting the two protagonists into adulthood.

Here’s the story of a woman who overcame adversity — not the dramatic, historical kind, but the sort of mundane discriminatory issues that come along with being ‘different.’ Director Jane Campion’s biographical drama about the unsteady life and amusing triumphs of New Zealand author Janet Frame was adapted from a TV miniseries. Poor, isolated and socially excluded, Frame jumps from one unfortunate problem to the next, but is repeatedly rescued by her own talent… at one point a writing award saves her from being lobotomized. Criterion’s extras include a candid audio interview with the author herself.

Our summers are now set. Yes, we have great movies and TV headed our way, but what to do in between? Search for the truth as Mulder or Scully with The X-Files Big Box Board Game! Idw today announced the game and its July release, hopefully meaning July 1 but perhaps meaning during Comic-Con, which begins July 23.
One of my favorite things about it? “The X-Files board game will focus heavily on material from the first three seasons of the television series, giving fans a chance to start from the beginning of the phenomenon.” Another favorite thing is the fact that one player gets to be The Smoking Man. Bring It.

Word is circulating today that Legend of the Seeker has been cancelled after two seasons. There hasn't been an official announcement yet but it doesn't look like there will be a third season.
Legend of the Seeker is a fantasy series about a young woodsman (Craig Horner) who discovers he is actually destined to be a heroic Seeker. The series also stars Bridget Regan, Bruce Spence, Craig Parker, and Kevin J. Wilson.
Things haven't been looking so good for the syndicated series for awhile. The ratings had dropped and, last month, the Tribune company (which owns a lot of local stations that air Los) decided not to pick it up for a third year.
ABC Studios and show producers said that the show had not being cancelled yet and that the studio was searching for other local stations to fill...
