Which Is Gayer — Sex & The City 2 Or Prince Of Persia?
This week I caught screenings of Sex and the City 2 and Prince of Persia which was interesting as both are of gay interest and open today. But if you can only see one this weekend, which should it be? I've put together a handy analysis to help you decide!
Does it have a gay icon?
SATC2: None other than Carrie Bradshaw! Plus Liza Minnelli!
Pop: Jack Twist is in the house! Yes, it's two time AfterElton Hot 100 champion Jake Gyllenhaal!
Which is more gay? Pop gets this category. Sorry, Carrie. Brokeback Mountain trumps all.
Does it celebrate heterosexual love and reinforce heteronormativity?
SATC2: Definitely. Carrie and Big, Carrie and Aiden, Samantha and anyone male.
Pop: Its budget was $150 million. So of course, Prince Dastan falls for Tamina and they live happily ever after.

Britain's Got Talent will apparently cause controversy by showing "totally inappropriate" acts this week. According to The Mirror, a topless fire-eater and a woman being spanked while reading Shakespeare are likely to anger viewers. Psychologist Professor David Wilson said: "Children are vulnerable to modelling behaviour and seeing an act like this is essentially giving them permission to do it themselves. "In no context is a man (more)...

After first watching The Happy Poet at SXSW, I immediately knew that it was going to end up being one of my favorite films of the festival. To be honest, this was the interview that I looked forward to the most during SXSW. I was really excited about meeting writer-director-actor Paul Gordon and having the other lead actors (Jonny Mars, Chris Doubek and Liz Fisher) along for the proverbial ride made it all that much better. The five of us met up at the Austin Hilton to chat about The Happy Poet, which screened as part of SXSW 2010’s “Emerging Visions” series. The interview goes off on some odd comedic tangents – but what would you expect from the hilarious team behind The Happy Poet? DS: The Happy Poet appears to function as a metaphor on several levels for many things. I’m curious what your intentions were? PG: Well, I...

The seventh annual True/False Film Fest wrapped up yesterday in Columbia, Mo after presenting four days and nights packed with documentaries. While the popularity of the event among the locals pleasantly surprised some guest directors, it's easy to see why the college town is so supportive of the non-fiction focused festival headed by David Wilson and Paul Sturtz which has consistently drawn rave reviews from filmmakers, industry, and audiences alike in ...

Kevin McHale as Glee's Artie
A: “I think it was [creator] Ryan [Murphy’s idea],” Kevin McHale tells us of that striking scene that has him moving around the school in his wheelchair and singing, sometimes in normal motion while everyone else is in slow motion. “[Ryan] was the one who walked by me a few episodes before and he was, like, ‘Learn “Dancing With Myself.’ It was cool.”
As for the unique, wheel-popping choreography, “It was very unconventional,” Kevin admits. “Me and the choreographer, Zach [Woodlee], kind of knew what I could do in the chair. He’s amazing. It was us figuring certain types...

The Cinema Eye Honors, my favorite awards ceremony after the Indie Spirits, has released the nominations in eleven categories with Louie Psihoyos’ The Cove racking up a total of seven nominations . - The Cinema Eye Honors, my favorite awards ceremony after the Indie Spirits, has released the nominations in eleven categories with Louie Psihoyos’ The Cove racking up a total of seven nominations while 2nd place with four nominations each, we find Robert Kenner’s overrated Food, Inc., Anders Ostergaard’s miraculous Burma VJ and a pair of films that I'm sure many in the general public know nothing about in Darius Marder’s Loot and Michael Palmieri and Donal Mosher’s October Country. Winners will be announced on the 15th of January. Loot (which got a "money back guarantee" from Hammer to Nail's Michael Tully) follows two WWII veterans and their guide across the...

Ex-Big Brother psychologist David Wilson has condemned Britain's Got Talent for exploiting contestants. In an article for the Daily Mail, Wilson compared the ITV1 show to 18th century public executions and the Christians being thrown to the lions by the Romans. "Rarely has a television show been more badly misnamed than Britain's Got Talent," he said. "The producers might like to pretend the programme is inspired by the quest for entertainment gold. But, in truth, the base metal of cynical exploitation lies at its heart. "It is a celebration of banality and eccentricity, not of genuine talent. In this modern version of the Victorian freak show, too many of the contestants have neither the real star quality nor the psychological equipment to cope with the sustained, harsh glare of the public spotlight." He continued: "The (more)...

Show spokesperson says she'll definitely perform, but Boyle's apparent fragile state still has many worried.

With less than 24 hours to go before Saturday's eagerly anticipated season finale of "Britain's Got Talent," the question has suddenly switched from, "Can Susan Boyle win?" to, "Will Susan Boyle even show up?"
And if she does show — and "Bgt" broadcaster ITV has said she definitely will — which SuBo will it be? Will the audience get another glimpse of the frumpy, shy, 48-year-old Scottish church volunteer with the angelic voice that first captured their hearts just six weeks ago, or will they see the frazzled, F-bomb-dropping overnight celebrity, who is reportedly on the brink of quitting the show over the sudden crush of tabloid fame?
According to an Associated Press report, the U.K. is "buzzing with concern" over whether Boyle's nerves will get the better of her.

- In recent years I've often criticized the Academy Awards for not having the foresight and fortitude to include docu films that have not only completely reinvigorated the genre, but have pushed the medium to new possible artistic and narrative terrains. This year's short list of 15 titles only further confirms that the Academy has tremendous difficulty in acknowledging the wider scope of films that merit year-end salutations. The formula for the docu-filmmaking and docu movie-going experience has significantly changed since Y2K, yet the most prestigious award film ceremony seems to come up short when it comes to new trends in storytelling and filmmaking. Today IndieWIRE reports Aj Schnack will collaborate with online independent film distributor IndiePix to launch a new nonfiction filmmaking awards event, set for March 18, 2008 at IFC Center in New York City. Below you find a Top 15 list of films that will be nominated for eight categories,
