Arjan Wilschut (Dordrecht, 1971) is a Dutch animator, writer and director with many years experience in film, television and animation. An art school drop-out, he learned the trade by animating on commercials for Comic House Amsterdam and on short films by Piet Kroon. He moved to the UK to work on the BBC series Testament, which won the 1997 Emmy award for Production Design. For Joanna Quinn he animated on the Oscar-nominated film Famous Fred. He also worked in London for TVC, Uli Meyer Studios and on Michael Dudok de Wit's Oscar-winning film Father and Daughter.
Back in Holland he animated the title sequence for the popular Dutch children's film Miss Minoes aka Undercover Kitty (2002). In 2003 he started a small studio called Animation Works to write, design, and direct independent films: Shadows (2002), Penguins Christmas (2004), Hard Boiled Chicken (2006) and Boer Jansen/ Farmer Jack (2012), which won 7 international film awards including an Audience Award at the 2012 Netherlands Filmfestival and a Green Image Award in Tokyo. Latest directorial addition is the Ultrashort film 'Deadly Drive-In Disaster' (2015), shown in Dutch Pathé cinemas before 007: Spectre , which was seen by over 1 million viewers. The short won 6 awards at international film festivals and was also nominated 'Best Short' at festivals like Widescreen and Shortcutz.
Arjan animated on several European feature films like Phantom Boy (2015), Ethel and Ernest (2016) and Funan (2018) but also on TV productions like the documentary 'Etgar Keret: Based On A True Story' which won the international Emmy in 2018. Arjan also works as a storyboard artist, most notably on the very successful Amazon TV series 'Undone' (2019), starring Rosa Salazar and Bob Odenkirk.
