Known for its intense storyline and striking animation by A-1 Pictures, the series promises to be a hit among English-speaking audiences.
The English dub trailer, skillfully directed by Caitlin Glass, has already caught the eye of anime enthusiasts. Simonson like Neal adams was great in his day, but clearly cuz of old age, the hands are probably much more worn and weary. Not like frank Miller who was ALWays a terrible artist, who just became unbearable
Walt Simonson posted the above tweet on both his Twitter and Facebook pages.
I asked my old friend for the Twitter account of the writer. Walt, the cool mofo that he is, got a laugh out of the post but didn’t give me the info cause he’s a classy guy.
I could not let that comment stand. I had to respond. Why? The kids are why. Back when lions, tigers, and bears were the spirit animals of America, that post wouldn’t have mattered.
Those spirit animals have been replaced by sheep. Not the kind of sheep some men seek out when their eyesight is failing, and the palms of...

"Last seen, used, and tasted 258 years ago - it's sea salt!" Bring us the spice! While we wait to see a trailer for Denis Villeneuve's new Dune movie, there's another sci-fi "spice" film to watch. Spice Frontier is an animated short that acts as a proof-of-concept pilot for an animated series. Over a century has passed since the destruction of Earth. Without a home planet, humans now live among the 38 known alien species. Kent Williams, a struggling chef, leads a disparate band of adventurers aboard their ship, The Serrano. Eager to discover the culinary secrets of his ancestors, Kent and his cyborg companion, C-la, traverse the cosmos in search of rare Earth spices. Sounds tasty! Spice Frontier is made at animation house Steamroller Studios and directed by its co-founder Jalil Sadool. I'd love to watch this show - here's hoping someone picks it up. Thanks to Short of the...

It's fascinating to listen to the production woes Peter Brook's Lord of the Flies (1963) faced in the early stages as he teamed with Hollywood producer (and family friend) Sam Spiegel to create, what he wanted to be, a low budget adaptation of William Golding's novel. Instead, as time went on, Spiegel took it upon himself to change the story. As a producer of films such as Lawrence of Arabia and The Bridge on the River Kwai, it was simply not in Spiegel's nature to make a cheap film. The budget began to balloon, art directors were flown around the world to look at islands and even girls were introduced into script rewrites done behind Brook's back as Columbia (whom were initially set to distribute the film) felt the budget had gotten too big for a film about kids. In essence, it was no longer "Lord of the Flies...

Beginning in September, DC Comics will roll out out the red carpet for the return of their critically acclaimed “Batman Black and White” series, where fans can look forward to six new issues in the collection. Originally published in 1996, DC’s Eisner-nominated “Black and White” anthology began as a four issue miniseries that went on to inspire a wide array of similarly-styled backup stories and a very successful line of high-end statues based on series’ artwork.
The original series featured several notable contributors that included Jim Lee, Bruce Timm, Joe Kubert, Neil Gaiman, Walter Simonson, Richard Corben, Kent Williams, Brian Bolland and many more. The upcoming mini-series will continue that tradition by bringing on such talents as Chip Kidd, Neal Adams, Sean Murphy, Chris Samnee, Michael Cho, Joe Quinones and more for the first issue set to arrive in September.

So, though we are already overflowing with awesome on this show, the generous gods of Arrow have decided to give us even more hotness. Yep, tonight is the debut of Roy Harper. He’s played by Colton Haynes. You don’t know who that is? Here’s a little visual clue courtesy of last season's Teen Wolf…
He is not the precious gem that is in danger tonight, though we can hope his jewels will be the subject of future plots. No, tonight it’s all about this big red ruby and some effete British thief known as The Dodger, played by James Callis. He’s not the playful little street urchin getting into hijinks on behalf of that rascal Fagin. No, this dude finds hapless dupes to steal for him, under the duress of an explosive collar he puts on them.
Back at the Arrow Cave, Team Arrow is hard at work.

Time for another installment in our guest blog series in which Dark Horse Comics Editor-in-Chief Scott Allie interviews some of the best and most prolific contributors to the horror genre. On tap today we have the multiple Eisner Award winning colorist Dave Stewart.
Scott Allie: You color all the Mike Mignola books, as many as three a month, and Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips’ Fatale for Image. That’s a significant portion of the horror comics on the market. Do you feel an affinity for the horror genre?
Dave Stewart: There is something really fun about giving people the willies. I really enjoy good horror. There’s nothing like coloring the perfect creepy mood or a nice gory monster.
Sa: Why do you think you and Mignola clicked so well? You, his wife, and I are his longest lasting relationships.
DS: Well, I think I’ve always been willing...

A long time ago in a galaxy, blah, blah, blah…
…Denys Cowan, Bill Sienkiewicz and I shared a studio next to some creators who are all legends now. It was the second silver age of comics and we were in the thick of it.
Howard Chaykin was doing American Flagg!, Walt Simonson was on Thor, Al Milgrom was doing Spider-Man. Jim Sherman was in the studio but I forgot what he was working on, I do remember it was bad ass.
The studio where all those superstar upstarts were was called Upstart Studio.
Duh.
Also at Upstart was Frank Miller who was doing Daredevil and about to do Ronin. I seldom saw Frank but when I did more often...

Tired of watching the Hollywood machine engulf the San Diego Comic-Con, two Pixar artists have taken matters into their own hands and opened Trickster, an enclave for comic book fans, right across the street from the convention center.
Whatever you do, don't call them Slamdance for Comic-Con.
After years of watching the Hollywood machine slowly engulf the San Diego Comic-Con, Pixar story artists Scott Morse and Ted Mathot this year have staked out a creators' enclave across the street from the convention center.
Trickster is a combination bar/store/gallery/symposia happening through Sunday at the San Diego Wine & Culinary Center, offering creator-owned products and a hangout for fans to more intimately engage with comic writers and artists about their craft.
"People created Slamdance because they couldn't get into Sundance," says Morse, also an Eisner-winning graphic novelist currently promoting Crime & Terror, published through his imprint, Red Window. "We're very much a part of Comic-Con.

I’ll admit it: I’m cheating. This iteration of the Sandman Meditations will discuss two Sandman episodes instead of the regular one.
Fables & Reflections collects a group of Sandman stories that appeared in a variety of venues over a fairly wide range of time. Having read only the first two at this point, I don’t know if there are linking threads, themes, or threnodies among the stories, but we can revisit the idea at the end of the book.
The reason I’m tackling two stories today is that the first, “Fear of Falling”, is very short. If I wanted to get all deconstructive (sometimes, after all, I do…) I could perhaps write 800-1,000 words on the implications and imbrications of particular words and panels within this one very short Sandman story, but sometimes restraint is an desirable quality in a writer. Perhaps if I practice restraint, one...

Below you can check the straight bad ass poster for the restored re-release of Kurosawa.s Rashomon by Kent Williams (the guy who worked on the graphic novel adaptation of The Fountain). The only thing that doesn't make sense about the whole thing is that it is still listed as being "in stock". I'd get one as soon as I could if I were you, since really, it should be listed as "hah! Too slow bitches". Much love to John Painz for the heads up!
