Trisha Yearwood will be the inaugural recipient of CMT’s June Carter Cash Humanitarian Award, as well as performing a new song, on the “CMT Music Awards” telecast, airing live April 7 on CBS.
The singer will get the honor for her philanthropic work, which extends across many charities but most visibly includes two decades of involvement with Habitat for Humanity, which she’s long supported alongside husband Garth Brooks. (They were jointly given the org’s Habitat Humanitarians honor in 2016.)
Yearwood will use her first appearance on the annual awards show in five years to premiere “Put It in a Song,” the first preview of a forthcoming album that will be a first in her career, in that it’ll be the first collection in which she co-wrote all the songs.

Eric Carmen, who was the frontman of power pop band The Raspberries before going on to solo success, has died at 74.
His wife, Amy Carmen, posted the news on the singer’s website. He apparently died in his sleep during the weekend, but no other details were given.
“It is with tremendous sadness that we share the heartbreaking news of the passing of Eric Carmen,” she wrote. “Our sweet, loving and talented Eric passed away in his sleep, over the weekend. It brought him great joy to know, that for decades, his music touched so many and will be his lasting legacy. Please respect the family’s privacy as we mourn our enormous loss. ‘Love Is All That Matters… Faithful and Forever.’”
Carmen was born on August 11, 1949, in the Cleveland suburbs. He first rose to fame with the Raspberries’ 1972 breakout hit, “Go All the Way,” which hit No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 and in Canada.

It’s been a full 16 months since Charley Crockett has released a record. It’s barely a fraction of a typical album release cycle for most artists, but not Crockett: The Texas singer-songwriter released a whopping nine records over the five year span between 2018 and 2022.
The marathon wait is just one reason that $10 Cowboy, Crockett’s forthcoming album, is the most anticipated collection of the 39-year-old’s career. In a statement, Crockett explained that the record is a wandering tribute to his home country.

When Willie Nelson asks if you have any songs he can sing on, you always say “yes.” That’s the lesson delivered by Charley Crockett, who duets with Nelson on the new collaboration “That’s What Makes the World Go Around.”
According to Crockett, the Red Headed Stranger was recently recording at his Pedernales Recording Studio in Spicewood, Texas, and wanted to cut a new one. “I told him I had plenty,” Crockett said in a statement, adding that he proceeded to hang up, drive to his producer’s, and begin furiously writing.

Old Crow Medicine Show’s Ketch Secor is tidying up the cluttered kitchen of the band’s headquarters-slash-recording-studio in East Nashville so he can brew a pot of coffee. ESPN has switched up its soundtrack for Monday Night Football with a new opening theme in which Chris Stapleton, Snoop Dogg, and Cindy Blackman Santana perform a “reimagining” of Phil Collins’ “In the Air Tonight.” Check it out below.
If you really nit-pick this, the unlikely cover actually makes a decent amount of sense: Stapleton and Snoop have both performed at recent Super Bowls, with Stapleton performing the National Anthem this year and Snoop a part of the Halftime Show in 202. “In the Air Tonight” obviously needs a powerful drummer like Santana, who’s performed with legends including Pharoah Sanders, Lenny Kravitz, and — you guessed it! — Santana.
Why Collins’ 1981 smash hit was chosen as ESPN’s new hype anthem, however, is a bit of a head-scratcher. In a statement, the network said “In the Air Tonight” has a “deep relationship” with football, “having been cited in the past and present...

If you really want to understand where Jason Aldean’s “Try That in a Small Town” comes from, you have to go all the way back to Richard Nixon — and before that, George Wallace. Wallace, a former Alabama governor and segregationist independent candidate for president in 1968, got significant support from the country world, even holding fundraisers at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium. After defeating Wallace that fall, Nixon saw the right-wing potential of country music, and invited Johnny Cash to the White House a couple of years later for a concert,...

Bob Dylan is an influence for many other musicians. His introspective songwriting and combination of folk and rock led to many artists trying to imitate his style. However, the “Blowin’ in the Wind” singer still learned a thing or two from other musicians, and he considered one folk artist to be a “mentor” of his.

Last January, Luke Grimes told Rolling Stone that he was plotting a solo music career. Today, the Yellowstone star makes good on that goal, dropping “No Horse to Ride,” his debut country single.

Toby Keith performed what many believed would be his last live show after being diagnosed with stomach cancer last year.

Bell, who battled severe bipolar disorder, had traveled Arizona with Kinman to work, but went missing on August 20 (Saturday) in Tucson, reports ‘Deadline’.
He was found dead about a week later, according to SavingCountryMusic.com: “not far from where he disappeared, and in a manner we all feared he would be when we first heard the news.” His cause of death is still pending an autopsy.

Hank Williams Jr. will highlight his affinity for the blues on a new album produced by Dan Auerbach. Rich White Honky Blues, the Country Music Hall of Fame member’s first album since 2016’s It’s About Time, arrives June 17.
Auerbach recorded the album live with a backing band that included Kenny Brown, Eric Deaton, and Kinney Kimbrough, capturing a dozen tracks. Among them are Williams’ takes on songs made popular by Robert Johnson, Lightnin’ Hopkins, R.L. Burnside, Muddy Waters, and even his own work. It’s a building block...

When Hank Williams Jr. began his music career in the Sixties, he did little to distance himself from the shadow cast by his monumental father. He released albums with titles like Songs My Father Left Me, sang “Your Cheatin’ Heart” and “Hey Good Lookin’” in the same lonesome style, and appeared onstage at the Grand Ole Opry, the very institution that fired his dad in 1952. The pressure to imitate Hank Williams and fill the void left by his untimely death at 29 was great, and it nearly swallowed him whole.

Titled “CMT Giants: Charley Pride,” the special will be arriving when Pride-pride is still at a peak level, with his name constantly brought up in the current conversations about race and country music, and how his ascent to the top of the genre in the 1970s represented both an enormous breakthrough as well as an opportunity to keep the door open that was lost.
The special will premiere August 25 at 9 p.m. Et on the cable network.
“I am delighted to have so many ‘giants’ in the business celebrate the legacy of Pride,” said Rozene Pride, who was married to the singer for 54 years. “He would have been so happy to...

Before Tim Montana signed with Bbr Music Group/Music Knox Records to release his major label debut, Long Shots, the longhaired, bearded mountain man from Butte, Montana, would watch quietly as the career path he carved out for himself was repeatedly questioned by Nashville executives and managers.
While Montana was building an audience of music fans as a hard-touring country-rocker, playing shows with Zz Top, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and Hank Williams Jr., he was also cultivating an online following as an unconventional social-media influencer. He may not have had the massive...

Singer-songwriter Sam Williams doesn’t shy away from the family name in his television debut on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert. For his performance of “Can’t Fool Your Own Blood,” the grandson of Hank Williams performs in the eerily empty Franklin, Tennessee, home where the country great once lived.
Rather than copying his grandfather’s bare-bones honky-tonk or even the country-rock collisions of his father Hank Williams Jr., Williams opts for a more expansive, atmospheric vision of folk rock in “Can’t Fool Your Own Blood.” Mixing acoustic guitar,...

Bill Callahan and Bonnie “Prince” Billy have continued their cover series with Steely Dan’s “Deacon Blues,” with Bill MacKay lending a hand.
Directed by Michael Tully, the clip features a woman finding change on the ground, guzzling Gatorade, and eventually watching projections of Callahan and Billy on a house. They perform the Aja track across acoustic guitar: “Learn to work the saxophone/I play just what I feel/Drink Scotch whiskey all night long/And die behind the wheel.”
“Party got busted,” Billy said of the cover. “All clear.

Williams will fill the “Veterans Era Artist” slot, Stuart will be inducted as the “Modern Era Artist,” and Dillon in the “Songwriter” category, which rotates every three years with the “Non-Performer” and “Recording and/or Touring Musician” inductees.
Williams’ induction comes nearly 60 years after his father — the still influential Hank Williams — was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame.

A year before he died, Johnny Cash was the subject of a tribute album with some of music’s biggest names: Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, and Dwight Yoakam all sang the works of Cash on 2002’s Kindred Spirits: A Tribute to the Songs of Johnny Cash (one of two Cash homage albums released that year). But it was Little Richard who delivered the most revved-up performance, a rambunctious rendition of “Get Rhythm,” the 1956 B-side to “I Walk the Line.”

Some films can survive the coronavirus better than others. Some — the quieter ones, the documentaries, the character studies — don’t need a big screen or a raucous film-festival audience or a packed house to make their pleasures known. Some can do quite well in front of a living-room audience of one or two.
“Arkansas” is not one of those films.
Of all the films that have been forced to go straight to streaming and VOD because of theater closings and film-festival cancellations due to Covid-19, Clark Duke’s offbeat black comedy might be the one that most misses its original release format. The film was to have premiered in the Austin Convention Center at the South by Southwest Film Festival — and if ever a film was made for a big, rowdy festival crowd with an appreciation for off-the-wall humor, it is this one.

No matter what concertgoers are looking for, though, the season has plenty to offer. Here are Rolling Stone’s picks for spring’s can’t-miss concerts.

In early March 1978, Willie Nelson was atop Billboard’s country albums and country singles charts with friend and frequent duet partner Waylon Jennings. Their Waylon & Willie LP had spawned a massive hit with “Mammas Don’t Let Your Babies Grow Up to Be Cowboys,” which enjoyed a four-week run at the Number One spot. Nelson, meanwhile, could be seen as sort of taking that song’s message to heart with his follow-up album which, on the surface anyway, would seem to appeal less to cowboys than to “doctors and lawyers and such.
