Following his recent well-received return to the Saw franchise with Spiral, filmmaker Darren Lynn Bousman is now set to direct a new horror film about the real-life Lalaurie Mansion in New Orleans.
Written by Chad and Carey Hayes (The Conjuring), the Lalaurie Mansion movie will be filmed partly at the actual mansion (the same location where Hayes brothers wrote the film's screenplay) and is the first film in a planned franchise.
We have the official press release with more details below, and in case you missed it, check out Heather Wixson's Sundance interview with one of the film's producers, Doug McKay!

Darren Lynn Bousman, who has directed several films in the “Saw” franchise, will direct the first film as part of a new horror franchise about the Lalaurie Mansion, a haunted house that still stands in the French Quarter of New Orleans.
“The Conjuring” writers Chad and Carey Hayes first announced back in 2019 that they were writing and developing a series of films all inspired by the house and the history of its crazed owner, Madame Delphine Lalaurie. Bousman will direct the first film in the planned franchise. No other casting or planned start dates were made clear.
The Lalaurie Mansion is considered one of the most haunted houses in the world and has been closed to the public since 1932, but it remains a popular tourist attraction. Exclusive: The Conjuring creators Chad and Carey Hayes and producers Faster Horse Pictures (The Tax Collector) have set Saw franchise director Darren Lynn Bousman to helm their new horror franchise The Lalaurie Mansion.
Bousman, who has directed four of the Saw movies including this year’s Spiral with Chris Rock and Samuel L Jackson, will direct the leadoff film in the proposed series of movies about the infamous New Orleans property.
The Hayes Brothers have written the film’s screenplay in the house, and the production will shoot portions of the film on-site as well, despite public access not being possible since 1932.
The first movie will be set in the present day and is being lined up for Q4 2021. Casting will begin now. We hear that studio and streamer interest is already high in the project.
The director attachment is timely. Spiral recently opened No. 1 in the U.S. and...

If you’ve ever taken a ghost tour in New Orleans, chances are you’ve made a stop at the Lalaurie Mansion, which is the site of the atrocious behaviors of socialite Delphine Lalaurie, who tortured and murdered slaves on the now-infamous property. As it turns out, the Lalaurie Mansion is set to be the centerpiece for an upcoming horror project which will be written by veteran scribes Carey and Chad Hayes, and while in Park City for the 2020 Sundance Film Festival, this writer had the opportunity to speak with one of the producers for the project, Doug McKay, who gave us some insights into what we can expect from the upcoming film.
Great to speak with you, Doug. I’m familiar with the Lalaurie Mansion, as I toured it years ago on a ghost tour, and it was extremely creepy. What can you tell us about what’s already...

The creators of The Conjuring franchise, Chad and Carey Hayes, have launched a new production company called Faster Horse Pictures. The plan is to develop a series of haunted mansion horror films through this production company.
The new franchise will be built around the real-life Lalaurie Mansion, which is located in New Orleans. This is said to be one of the most notorious haunted houses in the world. Thousands of tourists flock to the mansion every year even though there hasn’t been any public access to it since 1932.
The house was made infamous by its resident Madame Lalaurie, “a New Orleans socialite and serial killer who tortured and murdered numerous slaves there in the early 1800s. After her crimes were exposed following a house fire in 1834, she fled the city and was never arrested.”
Nicolas Cage actually owned this mansion at one point. It’s now owned by Michael Whalen,...

After stepping into the haunted homes of the Perron and Hodgson families, respectively, in the first two Conjuring movies, screenwriters Chad and Carey Hayes are now opening the door to another real-life location with a haunted past in a new horror franchise based on the Lalaurie Mansion in New Orleans:
Press Release: From the creators of The Conjuring franchise, Chad and Carey Hayes, and Faster Horse Pictures’ Cindy Bond and Doug McKay in tandem with Michael Whalen, a team with experience working on The Zodiak, Shutter Island and The Black Swan, comes a new horror film franchise based on the infamous house and property known as The Lalaurie Mansion – one of the most haunted houses in the world. Despite there being no public access inside the property since 1932 (for a reason!), thousands of people travel to New Orleans each year just to get a roadside glimpse of the notorious home.

Ricardo Cortez in 'Ten Cents a Dance,' with Barbara Stanwyck. No matter how unthankful the role, whether hero or heel – or, not infrequently, a combination of both – Cortez left his bedroom-eyed, mellifluous-voiced imprint in his pre-Production Code talkies. Besides Barbara Stanwyck, during the 1920s and 1930s Cortez made love to and/or life difficult for, a whole array of leading ladies of that era, including Bebe Daniels, Gloria Swanson, Betty Compson, Betty Bronson, Greta Garbo, Florence Vidor, Claudette Colbert, Mary Astor, Kay Francis, Joan Crawford, Irene Dunne, Joan Blondell, and Loretta Young*. (See previous post: “Ricardo Cortez Q&A: From Latin Lover to Multiethnic Heel.”) Not long after the coming of sound, Ricardo Cortez was mostly relegated to playing subordinate roles to his leading ladies – e.g., Kay Francis, Irene Dunne, Claudette Colbert – or leads in “bottom half of the double bill” programmers at Warner Bros. or on loan to other studios. Would...

Hopefully, one day, Ron Howard's feature film adaptation of Stephen King's The Dark Tower epic will happen. The project isn't completely dead yet, but it seems like it's just kind of sitting around not going anywhere at the moment. While we wait for some good news though, concept artist Gregory Hill released some great illustrations that he did for the movie. The designs are for various locations in the story such as Devar Toi, Tull, The Dogan, The Manni Village, A Harrier Near The Speaking Ring, The Thinny, Tull, and The Speaking Ring. There are also two videos that give us a fly through look at the town of Tull.

Shirley Jones Movies: Innocent virgins and sex workers galore (photo: Shirley Jones and Burt Lancaster in ‘Elmer Gantry’) (See previous post: “Shirley Jones: From Book to Movies.”) I haven’t watched The Cheyenne Social Club (1970), a comedy Western directed by Gene Kelly, and starring 62-year-old James Stewart as a cowpoke who inherits an establishment that turns out to be a popular house of prostitution. Henry Fonda plays Stewart’s partner. And I’m sure Shirley Jones, as one of the sex workers, looks lovely in the film. Hopefully, director Kelly gave this likable, talented actress the chance to do more than just stand around looking pretty. But then again … For all purposes, The Cheyenne Social Club ended Shirley Jones’ film stardom; that same year she turned to TV and The Partridge Family. Jones would return to films only nine years later, as one of several stars (among them Michael Caine,...
