"Maynard Jackson was the Moses of his time" is a typical comment in Samuel D. Pollard's documentary about the three-term Atlanta mayor, the first African-America to hold that office and the first of any major Southern city. The statement may be hyperbolic, but it reflects the enduring influence of the formidable figure who was instrumental in advancing civil rights from protests to political action. Recently given its world premiere at Doc NYC, Maynard proves as moving as it is informative.

These days it's tough to find reasons to be cheerful about the state of the nation – but an America without Duck Dynasty is a good place to start. No show in television history has ever sucked quite like this one. And if the TV gods are willing, no show ever will.
A&E's massive hit became a cultural presence in 2012 for its down-home charm – the zany adventures of a real-life Lousiana clan who kept their country manners and backwoods habits, with Phil, Miss Kay, their bearded sons and loopy Vietnam vet Uncle Si.

It definitely appears as if tonight's instalment of The Flash is going to be a big one as the trailer below teases some massive developments as Zoom sets his sights on conquering a second Earth. Of course, the biggest question here is if Zoom could blackmail Barry into giving his speed up once to save a loved one, why not just do it again? We'll have to wait and see how the episode pans out this evening! Zoom (guest star Teddy Sears) arrives back on Earth-1 intent on taking over Central City. Barry (Grant Gustin) and Wells (Tom Cavanagh) come up with a plan to stop Zoom once and for all but it’s extremely dangerous. Unsure if he should take the risk, Barry reaches out to both fathers for advice. Henry (guest star John Wesley Shipps) is adamantly opposed to Barry risking his life again but Joe (Jesse L. Martin...

The CW has released a clip from tomorrow night’s episode of The Flash, and it features Dr. Harrison Wells trying to convince Barry Allen, Cisco, and Iris West that the best possible solution to the titular hero no longer having his speed (he was forced to give it to Zoom in order to save Wally West’s life) is to recreate the accident which gave him his abilities.
It looks like Barry is going to take some convincing, but we already know from the promo for next week’s instalment that The Flash ends up saying yes after realizing it’s the only way to save Caitlin.
For more details on what to expect from “Rupture,” here’s the official synopsis courtesy of the network.

The CW has released the official descriptions for the episodes of Arrow, The Flash, and Legends of Tomorrow which will air during the week beginning May 2nd. Surprisingly, they feature some pretty major spoilers for what’s to come, but there will no doubt still be plenty of other twists and turns before each of these show’s respective seasons are over.
Starting with Arrow though, and there’s not much in the way of spoilers or anything of much interest to be perfectly honest. If anything, this instalment sounds a tad unexciting.
As Oliver (Stephen Amell) and Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards) look for a magical solution to defeat Darhk (guest star Neal McDonough), a vengeance-driven Diggle (David Ramsey) gets a lead on Andy’s (guest star Eugene Byrd) whereabouts and heads off to confront his brother. Meanwhile, Alex (guest star Parker Young) takes Thea (Willa Holland) on a vacation...

CW has been carving a name out for them by specializing in super hero shows. Now it appears The Flash will be getting his own series that will be a direct spin-off from Arrow-called Flash. We have seen his character a couple of times and fans have loved it enough that CW pitched the idea about a year ago. Now it appears that the ball is starting to roll in motion for it to become a reality that is set to premier this fall. Grant Gustin is the lead in the series, as he will play The Flash. John Wesley-Shipp who played the superhero originally will play Barry’s father. It is also reported that the costume will amaze fans of the comic book series.

History has shown us that not every musical hit is unique to the artist. Take Dolly Parton's "I Will Always Love You." When that catchy tune fell into the hands of the late Whitney Houston, the powerful ballad became an instant success, but many of the people caught humming the melody had no idea a blonde bombshell was the mastermind behind the hit.
Houston's rendition is just one a number of cover songs that eventually became more famous than the originals. We've compiled a list of some of these beloved gems below; let us know which ones surprised you in the comments.
1. "Nothing Compares 2 U" by Sinead O'Connor (original by Prince/The Family)
O'Connor's breathy song was actually written by "Purple Rain" genius Prince for one of his side projects, The Family. But the Irish songstress was the one whose tears actually brought it to the general public.

In 1982, the then archbishop of Canterbury, Robert Runcie, infuriated Mrs Thatcher by striking a note of reconciliation at the Falklands war memorial service, asking the congregation to pray for families on both sides of the conflict who had lost loved ones. Is it too much to hope that a similar note of reconciliation might be struck at Mrs Thatcher's funeral in the same cathedral? In our deeply divided country, many communities hold Margaret Thatcher and her government responsible for enormous suffering.
Whatever views are held, surely here is an opportunity for the established church to once more ask the nation to remember in prayer all who now suffer from the blight of poverty and unemployment. The listeners can make up their minds as to its cause and Mrs Thatcher will have to plead her case to a greater judge.

Monday night on "Caged" (Mon., 10 p.m. Est on MTV), viewers were introduced to a new face on the Minden mixed martial arts scene, John Wesley Reed.
In fact, he wasn't a novice to the world of cage fighting: John Wesley was making his return to the ring after a three-year absence. He fought a tough, scrappy bout in front of fellow cage fighters including "Golden Boy" Daniel, and at the end of three gruelling rounds John Wesley was declared the winner.
However, after the fight he took a turn for the worse and collapsed on the floor. Laying on the ground with his eyes open, he seemed dazed and unresponsive. Could something be seriously wrong with John Wesley?
Nobody in in the mixed martial arts scene was prepared to acknowledge that he might have suffered serious trauma, instead blaming his condition on "fatigue and dehydration." As John Wesley was loaded into an ambulance,...

Ja from Mnpp here, with your cinematic history lesson of the day. On this day one-hundred and forty-two years ago, the inventor John Wesley Hyatt patented a process of mixing together cellulose nitrote and camphor, which he'd meant as a means of producing cheap billiard balls (which had up til then been made strictly of ivory). They'd actually purchased the patent from a British inventor, Alexander Parkes, who'd gone bankrupt twice over trying to figure out a good use for his substance (including creating a line of waterproofed clothing) - lawsuits inevitably followed between them once the plastic began to take off, but it was Hyatt who's credited with calling it celluloid and figuring out its final composition.
Although the process began ten years later, it wasn't until another ten years after that, around 1888, that celluloid began being sliced down into sheets for photography (check out Hannibal Goodwin and his...

A survey of 6,000 British adults conducted by Travelodge found that eight out of 10 Britons rely on music to help them fall asleep at the end of the day. Coldplay tops the list of most turned-to artists, followed by Michael Bublé, Snow Patrol, Alicia Keys, Jack Johnson, Taylor Swift, Mozart, Barry White, Leona Lewis, and Radiohead. Even more interestingly, a quarter of adults surveyed reported they fall asleep listening to their iPod and they have a specific sleep-inducing playlist. What’s your nighttime entertainment sleep aid?

Earlier this month, we sat down with NCIS’ Michael Weatherly to chat about his contract negotiations (he was confident he’ll return for season 8, though no deal has yet been announced) and the show’s season 7 finale (May 25). Pressing him for spoilers over a martini, we soon realized, was futile. So, we administered an EW Pop Culture Personality Test, which the actor who plays film buff Tony Dinozzo more than aced. One note: Weatherly got an assist from his doctor wife, Bojana Jankovic, who joined us for our chat and learned a few things she hadn’t known about her husband.
