The Vampire Diaries Episode 308 "Ordinary People" Story By: Nick Wauters Teleplay By: Caroline Dries & Julie Plec Directed By: J. Miller Tobin Original Airdate: 3 November 2011 In This Episode... Gather around friends. I would like to tell you a story (technically, this is Rebecca's story, as told to Elena). A story about the original vampires. Where they came from, how they can be killed, and who Michael is. Michael is the patriarch of the clan, a humorless authoritarian who had no patience for Klaus. He and wife Esther left Europe over a thousand years ago (as humans) for fear of a plague. A witch, Ayana, told Esther about "The New...

Now that those pesky ghosts have been put back in their places on "The Vampire Diaries", it's time to deal with humans again, or at least that's what one would think judging from the title of Episode 3.08, "Ordinary People". But knowing the show as well as we do, we're pretty sure what we have here is a classic bait and switch. Check out this teaser and clip to see if perhaps they provide better intel on the upcoming ep.

Halloween falls on a Monday this year, which means the holiday episodes of most TV shows are airing the week before, including those on The CW, but that doesn't mean genre fans don't have more to look forward to, as evidenced by the just released synopses of "The Vampire Diaries" Episode 3.08, "Ordinary People", and "The Secret Circle" Episode 1.08, "Beneath", both airing on November 3rd. "Supernatural" Episode 7.07, "The Mentalists", which bows November 4th, isn't sounding too shabby either.

Ausiello: Considering the fact that Idina Menzel (a.k.a. the kid’s adoptive mother, Shelby) is returning for a major arc, I think it’s probably a safe bet that Quinn (and possibly baby daddy Puck) will cross paths with their daughter at some point. But the $1 million dollar question is whether the inevitable reunion will awaken any maternal feelings in the teen mom.

Believe it or not, there's still hope for continuing The Event, the low-rated serial that NBC cancelled in May.
At the NBC session of the current TCA press tour, NBC Entertainment Chairman Robert Greenblatt said that a wrap-up movie has "been discussed with Syfy and a few weeks ago it seemed more possible than it does today, but I honestly don't know."
The exec was quick to point out that, if The Event does return in some way, it'll be on Syfy and not the peacock network.
A month ago, we reported on fan efforts to keep The Event alive in some form. Series creator Nick Wauters had tweeted his support and wrote, "We are still actively searching for a way to bring back #theevent. No concrete update at this time, guys. Hopefully we'll hear smthg soon."...

On Monday, fans of The Event got together to support their cancelled TV series. The "Save The Event" website encouraged fans to buy related products -- purchase episodes, the soundtrack, or pre-order the DVD set -- and to send polite emails and tweets to Marc Graboff and Ted Harbert, high-ranking executives at NBC-Universal. Their goal is to get the series back, in some form -- either as a regular show, a mini-series, a movie, or whatever.
Though series creator Nick Wauters has taken a job working on CW's The Vampire Diaries (and seems to be enjoying it), he's still hoping that The Event can return. He supported the Monday effort via his Twitter account.
He also noted that there are still official efforts to keep the show alive. When the show was cancelled, it was reported that talks were underway to possibly continue the series...

Yes we did learn – at least kind of – what The Event was at the end of the series finale. But is it really over? Not according to Nick Wauters, creator of and writer for the series. He confirmed on Twitter back on May 13 that NBC had decided to not renew the series.
Wauters said:
Alas #theevent will not be back on NBC next season but we r actively pursuing other avenues to keep the show alive.Stay tuned for more info!
The upfronts have come and gone but apparently hope is still alive for Eventers, according to this tweet from Mr. Wauters on May 27:

Like a zombie rising from the dead, there are talks for Syfy to give new life to NBC’s The Event as a mini-series. They have been also been looking into the dropped Fox pilot, Locke & Key, based on the supernatural horror Idw comic by Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez.
Since the announcement of cancellation, The Event-creator Nick Wauters has been adamant to find a way to finish his sci-fi drama on his terms communicating to fans via twitter, facebook, and the The Event‘s official website.

I confess, I had never watched a full episode of The Event, merely drifting in and out of a muted TV screen in my post-Chuck haze. But if the much-maligned series finds itself resurrected from cancellation where Firefly could not? I will fight someone.
Despite its poor ratings, critical reception and subsequent cancellation, Deadline reports that we may not have seen the last of The Event yet. Currently, NBC's sister network SyFy is in talks to revive the failed show as a potential mini-series, a possibility earlier alluded to by series creator Nick Wauters and executive producer Steve Sark.
Currently, sibling networks Universal Media Studios and NBCUniversal are figuring out if costs for the mini-series might be feasible, which Deadline notes could inspire another season of the TV series if successful.

Fans of NBC's The Event may have something to look forward to. According to Deadline, the canceled show may find a second life on SyFy. Immediately after the show was cancelled, creator Nick Wauters and executive producer Steve Stark revealed that there was a chance that the sci-fi drama could continue elsewhere. Talks are currently going on for Syfy to pick up the show as a miniseries.
It certainly helps that Universal Media Studios produced The Event, because NBC Universal owns them and SyFy. The numbers are being crunched to make sure it is financially feasible for The Event to continue on Syfy. If the series migrates and ends up doing well as a miniseries, it is possible that another season could eventually be launched. SyFy has been very active lately, they are also considering taking on the Fox pilot Locke & Key.

Mere minutes after NBC canceled freshman thriller The Event on the unlucky Friday, May 13, show creator Nick Wauters and executive producer Steve Stark told fans that there was a chance the drama could continue elsewhere. That possibility is now taking shape.
Sources confirm that Syfy is in talks to pick up The Event as a miniseries. Helping things is the fact that Syfy and The Event producer, Universal Media Studios, are corporate siblings. But migrating a broadcast show to cable is never easy, and I hear discussions are underway to see if it would be financially feasible.

"The Event" might be cleanly off the NBC schedule. But could it find new life on Syfy? Many a show has come and gone that fans have begged Syfy to pick up, but could the cable channel have finally caved in on this failed invasion series? "The Event" creator Nick Wauters along with executive producer Steve Stark say Syfy has been in talks to pick up their show, possibly as a miniseries. While the transfer of a show from network to cable isn't always successful, NBC was burned a couple years ago when it cancelled "Southland" only to watch it become a cable hit for TNT. Yet, translating a show from network to cable -- especially one as serialized as "The Event" -- is difficult. Hoping audiences can pick up where they left off, and that new viewers will be attracted to the updated project ...

Fans of the twisty fantasy series The Event weren’t too surprised when NBC failed to renew the low-rated series for a second season. After all, NBC took the show off the air for a number of months in the hope that its new superhero drama The Cape would become a hit (It didn’t). According to EW, execs at the genre cable channel SyFy, which happens to be owned by NBC-Universal, began talks to pick up The Event as a miniseries. Event executive producer and showrunner Evan Katz, director Jeffrey Reiner or creator and co-executive producer Nick Wauters did not comment on the news of the show’s potential leap to SyFy.

Update: Craig Engler of Syfy took to Twitter and dispelled the rumors.
"To answer some questions I've been getting," he tweeted, "at this time we have no plans to pick up The Event."
Previously: 'The Event' lives on!? Maybe, according to reports.
The canceled NBC series may have found a second life, and new home on NBC's sister network, Syfy.
Deadline is reporting creator Nick Wauters and executive producer Steve Stark are in talks with Syfy to bring the alien drama to the network as a miniseries. Given that NBC and Syfy are all under the NBC Universal umbrella, the deal could take shape rather quickly.
However, the players involved have to deal with going from a broadcast series budget to that of a cable miniseries. Financial constraints could prevent this event from ever taking place.

And the cancellation announcements continue as the networks begin announcing their fall line-ups. Low ratings have resulted in the cancellation of three more sci-fi shows. NBC has pulled the plug on The Event and ABC has axed alien-invasion reboot V and family superhero drama No Ordinary Family.
But there is good news for fans of The Event as there is talk of the show being picked up by perhaps Netflix or some other cable and digital entity. Executive producer Steve Stark thanked NBC for their start:
“NBC has been an amazing partner, it launched the show beautifully,”
Show creator Nick Wauters hopes to continue the show:
“We have a dedicated fan base, and we promised them we will deliver one way or another and will continue to tell our stories.”
What do you guys think of these cancellations? Which stories would you like to see continued and how?

Word came down today that NBC was cancelling The Event after one season. The serial drama drew positive numbers at the beginning but they have been in decline for much of the season.
The show may not be dead just yet though. Deadline reports that there are talks underway to continue the series elsewhere. Executive producer Steve Stark declined to comment but word is that Netflix may be interested in picking up the show. Netflix had no comment. There's also supposedly been interest from cable and digital outlets.

The return of "The Event" to NBC is happening a little later than originally planned. On the other hand, it will last a little longer.
NBC says the show will be back on its Monday-night schedule on March 7. That's a week later than what the network initially planned when it laid out its midseason schedule but will allow "The Cape" -- which just had its episode order trimmed from 13 to 10 -- to complete its run.
Fans will be rewarded for waiting an extra week with a two-hour episode. It's scheduled to air from 8 to 10 p.m. Et on March 7, giving "Chuck" a week off.
While we still don't know what the Event is, creator Nick Wauters and his fellow producers have promised to reveal it before the end of the season. The show will also welcome Virginia Madsen in a recurring part in the back half of its run.

The Event doesn't return until March 7th, and if you're like me the hiatus is killing you. Mammoth breaks like are tough to whether in a high-stakes serialized mystery like The Event, but I suppose the frustration fans are showing over this gap - nay, this abyss - is testament to the dedication of the viewers. Well, NBC seems to be responding to fan complaints and has released a collection of deleted scenes. A well executed web series might have satiated a little better, but we'll just have to take what we can get.
Personally, I found some of these deleted scenes from The Event to be fairly interesting. I wouldn't go as far as to say they are spoilers, but there are a few moments that may expand your sense of The Event's over-all plot; or at the very least stimulate some brand new theories on where The Event might be heading.

The executive producer of The Event has promised that he is planning changes for the second half of the season. In an interview with E! Online, Nick Wauters insisted that he isn't worried about the show's two-month hiatus. "I was a little nervous at first, but we're going to do all we can to make sure people don't forget us and look forward to our return on February 28," he said. "This hiatus will allow us to return with two episodes back-to-back that night, and then our remaining ten episodes each week without interruptions or repeats." He added: "The truth is, on a show like this, even with the talented people we work with, it's very hard to keep delivering those 42-minute 'mini-movies' every week. I think it will be extremely helpful to our cast and crew and writers and it will allow viewers (more)...

Late last month, Laura Innes spoke to TV Fanatic about her character on The Event and what we can expect as this season progresses.
Now, co-star Jason Ritter has done the same, as he previews what's on tap for Sean and gives us an idea of whether or not The Event will actually take place this year...
Does Sean know more than he's letting on?
Not about the conspiracy or the detainees. At this point his mind is spinning and he’s certainly trying to put the pieces together of how a plane can disappear and show up across the country a few seconds later, and so his mind is being opened... he’s the character who’s learning about everything as it goes along, just like the audience.
Will Sean and Leila ever reunite?
I can say that at the end of episode five, it’s a completely different show.

Just in time for Halloween, NBC’s The Event jacks up the creep factor this Monday when the ailing, zombie-esque “survivors” of Avias Air Flight 514 take a turn for the worse. “They’re a transformation that could eventually lead to death,” explains series creator Nick Wauters, who adds that Thomas — the possibly-alien puppet master who gave them the mysterious illness — will continue to “use them as leverage to try and get the president to free his people.” Based on the new, disturbing set of symptoms that crop up this Monday, something tells me Mr. Prez is going to strongly consider meeting his demands.

I know we're only a couple of weeks into the fall television season, but it seems like there is already a fair bit to say about what is working ... and what isn't.
First the bad news for the two of you watching ABC's The Whole Truth. While it won't be the first show to get canceled (hello, Lone Star and My Generation!) it looks pretty well doomed. Which is a shame as Alejo (Anthony Ruviviar) is pretty great and last week's episode not only featured a funny moment in a strip club where he made it very clear he wasn't interested in the ladies shaking their bon-bons, but the episode also frequently referenced the fact Alejo is gay in completely casual ways. It truly seems like a shame we're never going to get to see where this character might have gone.

"The Event" brought up all kinds of questions in its season premiere Monday, but creator Nick Wauters says viewers won't have to wait too long to start having them answered.
Not too long as in, like, next Monday (Sept. 27).
"That's pretty much the goal we set for ourselves," Wauters says. "Whatever mysteries we set up, we try to solve them pretty quickly so the audience can join the party at any time, and also you don't frustrate people. I always say we want to keep our audience hungry but not frustrate them. That's definitely a model we want to continue."
One of the bigger questions coming out of the premiere concerns the nature of Sophia (Laura Innes) and her fellow detainees at Mt. Inostranka. Wauters says at least a partial answer will come next week: "The question of who the detainees are ... is actually something that will be answered in the second episode.

The marketing of "The Event" told us a bunch of things that weren't the Event, and we have it on good authority that what happened at the end of Monday's (Sept. 20) premiere wasn't either.
But we suspect that's going to be the thing people are talking about after they see it.

What is The Event?
After watching the pilot episode of The Event at Comic-Con and interviewing the cast, I had no clue what the event actually is – which is exactly what I’m looking for in a series. If six years of watching Lost taught me anything, it was to trust the creative team and your patience will be rewarded.
The Event has the potential to be a very satisfying viewing experience because it contains three essential qualities that I require in a show for both a time and an emotional commitment: cast, chemistry and compelling creative.
The Lost Factor
Despite what you might have heard otherwise, The Event is not Lost – nor is it trying to be. If anything, this new series has extracted a few of the more successful elements from Lost and integrated them in quickly and smoothly.
