New Delhi, Nov 12 (Ians) The festivities are on and the anticipation for the celebrations in the evening is building up as Diwali is here.
On this Diwali, here are our suggestions for the Top 10 movie tracks to celebrate the festival of lights with songs that can make you sing, dance, smile, or just put you in a great mood:
‘Deepavali Deepavali’ (‘Mudduni Maava’) – Perhaps the ultimate song for celebrating Diwali, this song from the 1993 Kannada film starring veteran actors Shashi Kumar, and Shruti in the lead role, is a timeless Diwali song. It was sung by the legendary actor and singer Dr. Rajkumar, alongside composer S.P Balasubrahmanyam, and Manjula Gururaja. However, this is sadly one of the most overlooked songs for Diwali. The go-to song for the celebrations, ‘Deepavali Deepavali’ is nonetheless a timeless song which is perfectly suited for the occasion.

It has been two decades since the release of ‘Koi…Mil Gaya’. Filmmaker Rakesh Roshan envisioned as a ‘solo’ movie, however, he said that it turned out to be “India’s first superhero franchise.” The sci-fi film featuring an alien was released in 2003. However, it was not the first sci-fi film made in India.
Nisar Ahmed Ansari’s directorial ‘Wahan Ke Log’ is a 1967 Hindi science fiction film, which starred Pradeep Kumar, Tanuja, Johnny Walker. One of the earliest sci-fi films made in India, it tells the story of a supposed martial threat on India by aliens from outer space intending to rob the rich of their diamonds.
Starring Hrithik Roshan, Preity Zinta and Rekha, ‘Koi…Mil Gaya’ and the superhero film ‘Krrish’ franchise stand to be the first multi-genre story franchise that carries forward characters and storyline from its preceding parts.
On how he envisioned the entire idea?

UFC 279 saw some major last-minute changes to the fight card — but it may have only made the event more interesting.
Originally, Mma superstars Nate Diaz and Khamzat Chimaev were scheduled to headline UFC 279, while Jingliang Li and Tony Ferguson were to set for a co-main fight the same night. However, after Chimaev missed weight by 7.5 pounds on Friday morning, UFC president Dana White overhauled the fight card. Now, Diaz will take on Ferguson, Chimaev will take on Kevin Holland as the event co-main, and Li will fight Daniel Rodriguez.

She is loved unconditionally by her fans for playing one of the most loved characters on Indian television.
Think of Angoori bhabhi from producers Binaifer Kohli and Sanjay Kohli's show Bhabhiji Ghar Par Hai! and actor Shubhangi Atre's face pops up.

We are living in some extremely exciting times when it comes to British independent cinema. I mean yes, okay, Covid-19 has been a soul sucking bitch we could all do without but it has given us all a minute to admire what the true creatives are coming out with and I would say more low budget projects, thanks to Hollywood almost giving up on movies, are finding their day in the sun and I for one am hugely impressed with what I’ve seen so far… Tribal: Get Out Alive is one such flick that I have been keeping an eye on for a while now, especially as the cast and crew were dropping the odd behind the scenes teaser on social media. However I was not expecting this!

Marcel Carrière doesn’t act like a man who helped to change the course of cinema history. At the age of 83, he is still a boyish, endlessly curious and inventive character who spins the most amazing yarns. One minute he’s explaining how he helped top up Stravinsky’s hip flask with a nip of the composer’s favorite Johnny Walker, the next he’s explaining how he grabbed a few illicit shots of Paul Anka at New York’s Copacabana Club, right under the Mob owners’ noses by posing as a tourist. But most astonishing of all is the time he snuck some footage of Jean-Paul Sartre flirtatiously playing the piano to a young admirer, much to the chagrin of his famous partner, Simone De Beauvoir.
Carrière takes all these things in his stride, offering them up as amusing anecdotes, and it perhaps explains his approach to filmmaking. Under the banner of Direct Cinema,...

Eight celebrities. Eight border collies. Gaby Logan. What could go wrong?

In the early days of professional wrestling, wrestlers toured with travelling carnivals as part of the athletic (or ‘at’) show.
The carnies, impresarios and con artists that ran these shows (this was long before the terms ‘booker’ or ‘promoter’ entered the lexicon of the wrestling biz) figured that people would be more inclined to pay money to see their wrestlers if they had imaginative backstories, costumes and ‘gimmicks’.
So, one guy could be a freak of nature who’d been living in a cave and subsisting on stolen livestock until he was 25, whilst his opponent for the night might be a lion tamer or a reformed pirate. Why not? It’s all showbiz in the end, after all…

The Bachelor's "Prince Farming," Chris Soules, joined Nancy O'Dell on the Et set to spill on the season premiere and the juicy promos featuring a pregnancy test.
Right out of the gate, Britt, the 27-year-old waitress from Los Angeles, seemed to have stolen Chris' heart. As soon as she stepped out of the limo, the two shared what Chris called "the longest televised hug in history." But according to Chris, the story isn't over yet.
News: Can 'Prince Farming' Bring the Nice Back to The Bachelor?
"You still need to watch," Chris told Nancy with a laugh. "There's some changes that happen throughout the process. It's still worth watching."
While the final rose recipient remains a mystery, Chris had some assuring words.

Man's best friend indeed. When a fire started brewing in the Indianapolis home of Johnny Walker around midnight on Tuesday, his shih tzu/poodle mix Bogey barked furiously to wake him up - ultimately saving the lives of Walker and several others. According to New York's Daily News, the pup was the first to notice the fire, which was sparked by two unattended space heaters."I was in the front bedroom, opened up the door, and smoke and fire was coming down the hallway," Walker told local news station Wish. "If it wasn't for my dog, I'd been done." Walker...

From the Toronto International Film Festival, Adam Cook and Daniel Kasman continue our series of festival dialogues. Johnnie To's Don't Go Breaking My Heart 2 had its world premiere in Tiff's Special Presentations section.
Adam Cook: Here we are again, talking To. It's frustrating how many times I've encountered a dismissive attitude towards Johnnie To's romantic comedies. I realize even the director himself disassociates from them, but, and especially with his most recent works, the rom-coms have been as formally intricate and as impressively crafted as his more revered crime films. As everyone was praising Drug War, it was Romancing in Thin Air that stood out for me. Before that there was Don't Go Breaking My Heart (written on here by Ignatiy Vishnevetsky), an impossibly entertaining love triangle in the big city movie, that while over the top and silly, had some of To's most impressive images...

It was Shoojit Sircar's ardent wish to bring this untried pair together. Shoojit finally got a chance to do so in the serial Yudh of which he is the creative supervisor. Insiders insist that when a screen wife was being considered for Amitabh Bachchan, names like Deepti Naval and Nafisa Ali came up. It was Shoojit who insisted on Sarika doing the role. Says a source, "It was Shoojit Sircar who convinced Sarika to do the show. He is the creative consultant over the project." Shoojit says more than him it is Amitabh Bachchan who supervised the proceedings during the shooting of Yudh. "Mr Bachchan's years of experience came in handy for all of us.

India's First cinemascope film was Kaagaz Ke Phool, produced and directed by Guru Dutt in 1959. The film's star cast included Guru Dutt, Waheeda Rehman, and Johnny Walker. The movie is considered as Guru Dutt's finest film. But the film was a box office disaster and Guru Dutt never directed a movie again. The film is a technical masterpiece. The camerawork with its use of light and shadows is magical. The frames have been beautifully composed keeping in mind the cinemascope form...

What would you do for love? Everyone has their limits, but sometimes there is that one special person who takes us further than we ever thought possible, and Evan Rachel Wood may well be that person for Shia Labeouf in "Charlie Countryman." Premiering at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year, and now making its way to theaters, the film follows Labeouf in the lead as Charlie, who meets a beautiful woman enroute to Europe. But before he can make his move he'll have to get her out of the grasp of a vicious gangster and we see in this new clip, even the promise of a kiss can be enough. After that, you can also check out a new commercial for Johnny Walker helmed by 'Countryman' director Fredrik Bond, returning to the ad world in which he got his start, and the spot seems to have the same kinetic energy as his film.

Ah, the joys of new parenthood.
Interrupted sleep. Desperately trying to figure out why the baby is crying. Shock and palpitations at the cost of Pampers (or Luvs or Huggies). Interfering grandparents.
Yeah, it’s tough being the parent of a baby. (Just wait until they are teenagers!)

Some films offer one an instant cheer-up and others speak to that gloom that we feel at certain ages and times. If I watch Pyaasa every afternoon, then Kagaz Ke Phool would be for each weekend since it envelopes this viewer into a sighing and sniveling wreck. The film is one of the rare cases where its trivia and history cloud the film as a whole due to its eerie significance in Dutt’s trajectory. You cannot talk of the film without looking at the overlap and meta-ness of the narrative’s role in Dutt’s filmmaking oeuvre. The film broke Guru Dutt’s heart with its commercial failure of which he never directed another film after, sticking to acting and writing for his other protégé’s projects Sahib, Bibi, aur Ghulam and Chaudvin Ka Chand.

There was a time when I was a teenager that I would watch Guru Dutt’s masterpiece Pyaasa every afternoon. Each time, something new was found in the narrative that was rich with detail and poetry that is right up there with my favourite film ever made, Citizen Kane. The similarities between Orson Welles and Guru Dutt are tantamount. They were both fiercely original and daring filmmakers who had changed cinematic storytelling and mise-en-scene forever. They had their demons of wine and women, but they were tortured artists afflicted by demons that bleed into some of their cinematic gems.
From the opening song ‘Yeh Hanste Hue Phool’ that is beautifully picturized against a bee pollinating the flowers as the poet Vijay (Guru Dutt) looks on at the serenity of this image, before a man stamps down on the bee. It tells us all we need to know about Dutt’s core themes in his films,...

Guru Dutt is largely famous for making films that are of a melancholic nature. However, one of his greatest works that falls under the romantic comedy genre is Mr and Mrs 55 (1955). Guru Dutt not only directed this film, but he also played the male lead opposite the beautiful and talented Madhubala. The story is about a middle class girl named Anita (Madhubala) whose scheming aunt hires a struggling cartoonist named Preetam (Guru Dutt) to marry her for a short period. This is so that Sita Devi (Lalita Pawar) can inherit Anita’s fathers’ wealth. However, little does Sita Devi know that her niece and Preetam begin to fall in love with each other. This makes it all the more difficult for her to convince them to file for a divorce. Sita Devi is a feminist and is hence against the concept of marriage. She does not want Anita to fall...

It's the Fall of 1977 and I'm a bored and rebellious ten year old in search of a new movie to occupy my underworked and creativity-starved brain, feeling far too mature for previous favorites Wily Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (1971) and Return of the Pink Panther (1975), and wanting something more up-to-date and edgy than Chaplin's City Lights (1931). I needed a movie to call my favorite that would be symbolic of my own new-found manhood (and something that would really piss off my parents and teachers). Mom and Dad were going out for the evening, leaving me with whatever unfortunate baby-sitter happened to need the $10 badly enough to play mother hen to an obnoxiously precocious only child like myself.
