Gian Paolo Varani is a Line Producer - Executive Producer based in Rome with more than 35 years of experience in film and television production and his portfolio includes various European & Hollywood films and TV shows.
Born and raised in Italy, he graduated in Foreign languages. He immediately started to
work in production, moving fast from the lowest level, and soon in
foreign countries, especially in Central America and South America, so
acquiring a significant experience in setting up a production where it
is not "easy" and in primary Countries. He likes the challenge of
discovering new frontiers where to move projects and maximize the
production value finding a balance between cost and quality. After
almost 1 year, spent in shooting Cold Mountain in Romania, in 2004 he
was called again by an American investor to supervise the construction
of a new studio in Romania, and started a new production service
company there teaching the International standards for the Movie
industry to local crew. He then spent two years in Bucharest, bringing
projects as Head of Production of Kentauros Studios. In 2006 he
accepted the challenge of shooting a TV mini-series titled "The Holy
Family" (the first movie entirely shot in Jordan). In 2007 he funded a
new production service company in Italy called Mouse Film providing
services for major studios like Fox, Warner Bros, and other clients.
In the period from 2015 to 2023 he has been working on three major TV shows: after he finished with the Marco Polo project for Netflix in Malaysia, he budgeted and developed the The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power TV series for Amazon Studios. Since 2019 he has been working as Executive Producer on two seasons of Halo the TV Series produced by Showtime in association with Amblin Television and 343 Industries for Paramount+ primarily shot in Hungary, Slovenia and Iceland. In his career he had the privilege to work with some talented directors like, Tom Tikwer, Anthony Minghella, Julie Taymor, Carlo Mazzacurati,
Mikael Håfström, Marco Risi, Mario Monicelli, Otto Bathurst, Jonathan Liebesman, Roel Reiné, Dennie Gordon, Debs Paterson, Craig Zisk, Jessica Lowrey, Daniel Minahan, David Petrarca, Alik Sakharov, Jon Amiel, James McTeigue.
