Exclusive: Michelle Nader has boarded Dollface, the Hulu comedy starring Kat Dennings, as showrunner for its second season.
Nader, who was showrunner and exec producer of Dennings’ CBS comedy 2 Broke Girls, replaces Ira Ungerleider, who was showrunner for season one.
The half-hour show is set to start production this summer after a long, Covid-impacted delay on filming with new episodes set to air in 2022.
The streamer said that Dollface was one of its “best performing new binge series for subscriber engagement” after it launched in November 2019 and was renewed in January 2020.
Dollface follows Jules, played Kat Dennings, a young vibrant woman who is dealing with the aftermath of being dumped by her boyfriend. With a broken heart, Jules battles her own imagination in order to literally and metaphorically re-enter the world of women, with friendships she left behind and the new battle of dating post breakup.

Dollface will be returning for a second season despite production delays caused by the Covid pandemic.
The Kat Dennings-fronted comedy launched in November 2019 and the streamer called it one of its “best performing new binge series for subscriber engagement” at the time. It was renewed for a second season in January 2020.
However, there had been concern that Dollface might be the latest scripted series to have it renewal reversed due to Covid.
Craig Erwich, President of ABC Entertainment and Hulu Originals, assures Deadline that this is not the case and said “we have a plan to bring it back”.
“That was a show that was impacted by Covid, it was one of the top shows we launched in [2019] and I’m excited to have it come back for season 2,” he added.

Angie Tribeca was in the same situation as two other TBS comedy series, Wrecked and The Guest Book. Wrecked officially was canceled last month, while there still isn’t a formal decision on the Greg Garcia anthology The Guest Book.
There are three remaining TBS original scripted series, The O.G., The Detour and Search Party.

It’s evocative of Airplane! and The Naked Gun films, but despite the absurdity of plot lines that include ferrets and ventriloquists, an authentic spoof requires deadpan acting, Ep and writer Ira Ungerleider said at Deadline's Contenders Emmys event Sunday. "Their assignment on the show is you're on a procedural," he said. "I'm the disciplinarian that won't let anyone smile, wink or give a…...

Dying is easy, showbiz scripture dictates, and comedy is hard. But slipping into a coma, conceiving and delivering an illegitimate child, ending up in a "love rhombus," and somehow doing all of it with a straight face — that's a different matter entirely. Angie Tribeca burns through all that in the opening minutes of its currently-in-progress second season, compressing a heap of backlogged exposition and harebrained plot twists into approximately 100 seconds.
What's funny is such rapid speed-joking is pretty much typical for this daffy TBS cop comedy produced by Steve and Nancy Carell,...

It has been a three-way race for renewal among three bubble ABC comedies: sophomore The Neighbors and freshmen Trophy Wife and Mixology, There seems to be some movement within the pack, with the youngest, midseason entry Mixology, gaining momentum. I hear the network and the studio already have put in place a leadership plan for next season, with creators Jon Lucas and Scott Moore set to take over the reins as showrunners from Ira Ungerleider, who will be leaving after running the series for its original 13-episode order. What’s more, in a sign of confidence to Lucas & Moore and their show, I hear ABC Studios is in negotiations with the duo for an overall deal. At the same time last year, ABC Studios inked an overall deal with Dan Fogelman, with his freshman comedy The Neighbors going on to clinch the only comedy renewal for ABC Studios a few weeks later.

NBC has bought a half-hour, single-camera ensemble comedy from writer Kelly Oxford that counts "Friends" veteran Ira Ungerleider among its executive producers. The show, which is untitled, is about a divorcing couple and the wife’s overbearing sister, who try to raise their families together. Oxford, keeper of a popular blog and the author of the upcoming book of humorous essays "Everything is Perfect When You're a Liar," sold a comedy spec pilot to CBS last year. Harper Collins will publish her book in mid-2012. Besides Ungerleider, the NBC show's executive producers are Christina...

NBC has bought a single-camera ensemble comedy from blogger/Twitter personality Kelly Oxford. The untitled project, which Oxford will write, centers on a divorcing couple and the wife’s overbearing sister — who try to raise their families together after the sale of their house falls through. Friends alum Ira Ungerleider is supervising the project with Universal TV-based producers Karey Burke and Todd Holland. The project, produced by Universal TV, originated as an idea by Philadelphia Eagles co-owner Christina Weiss Lurie, producer of the 2010 feature documentary Inside Job, and her partners Alan Barnette and Richard Gelb. A search for a write was launched, resulting in the hire of Oxford, a Calgary blogger and stay-at-home mother of three whose snarky, straight-up observational tweets have garnered more than 266,000 followers, including Howard Stern, Jimmy Kimmel and Roger Ebert. Oxford has pilot experience — last season she had a family comedy in development at CBS...

Heading into its upfront presentation Wednesday, CBS has firmed up its roster of returning series.
Coming back are dramas "Cold Case" and "Numbers" and comedies "The New Adventures of Old Christine," "Rules of Engagement" and "Gary Unmarried."
Not being renewed are veterans "Without a Trace" and "The Unit" and freshman "11th Hour."
Additionally, CBS is close to acquiring the newly canceled NBC drama "Medium," which is produced by CBS TV Studios. NBC has until the end of today to release the series.
"Cold Case" fought a long hard battle to come back, with budget cuts as the focal point of the renewal talks as has been the case with all returning series this year.
It was boosted by a ratings uptick during the May sweep when the show scored with its Pearl Jam-themed episode.
CBS has been happy with "Christine" and "Gary," as they opened a comedy block for the network on Wednesdays.

Part of CBS' Wednesday night sitcom experiment, Gary Unmarried remains firmly "on the bubble" for renewal. The show hasn't exactly been a stellar performer but it's still done pretty well, especially considering its competition.
Gary Unmarried stars comedian Jay Mohr as a newly-divorced dad who's readjusting to the single life. Others in the cast include Paula Marshall, Jaime King, Ed Begley Jr., Ryan Malgarini, Kathryn Newton, and Al Madrigal.
While CBS execs are thinking about whether or not to give the sitcom a second season, there's a big change going on behind the scenes. Creator/executive producer Ed Yeager and executive producer Ric Swartzlander have left the show due to creative differences with the network.
If Gary is renewed, it's expected that co-executive producer Ira Ungerleider and consulting producer Rob Des Hotel will be moved up to showrunners.

TV crime show writers often employ a ticking clock to ramp up suspense in an episode, putting characters under added stress to solve a mystery by an impossible deadline. But now those writers are the ones watching the minutes tick by, along with the rest of their show's cast and crews, as negotiations go down to the wire on whether networks will renew several veteran series.
Dramas including "Cold Case," "Without a Trace," "Numbers," "Law & Order" and "The Unit" remain up in the air. Same with comedies "My Name Is Earl," "Scrubs" and "The New Adventures of Old Christine."
"What you're seeing is networks playing hardball, especially with their more mature shows, when negotiating license fees," one network insider said. "There may be a few surprises at the upfronts next week with shows not coming back, or even jumping networks."

"Gary Unmarried" executive producers Ed Yeager and Ric Swartzlander have left the freshman CBS comedy over creative differences.
The move comes as CBS is mulling the fate of the series, which is on the bubble for a second-season pickup.
There is speculation that two writer-producers on the show -- co-exec producer Ira Ungerleider and consulting producer Rob Des Hotel -- would be elevated to run "Unmarried," and with them in place the series would be renewed.
Yeager created "Unmarried," which stars Jay Mohr as a recently single painting contractor who shares custody of his children with his controlling ex-wife (Paula Marshall).
The project landed at ABC Studios after Yeager's friend, studio-based writer-producer Swartzlander, brought the spec to studio brass, they bought it and set it up at CBS.
ABC Studios co-produces the series with CBS Par.
After a promising start, "Unmarried's" ratings leveled off, with the show pulling respectable numbers in the 8:30 p.
