Yorgos Lanthimos is reuniting with his “The Favourite” screenwriter Tony McNamara for an adaptation of Richard Brautigan’s 1974 Gothic Western novel “Hawkline Monster” (via The Wrap). The project is backed by New Regency and Element Pictures. McNamara’s script will follow two gunslingers who are hired by a 15-year-old girl to kill a monster that lives underneath the basement in the home of the title character Miss Hawkline. Lanthimos is set to direct the project, which has floated around Hollywood for years and has courted the likes of Hal Ashby and Tim Burton. Ashby’s attempt to adapt the book was to star Jack Nicholson and Dustin Hoffman.
The news of “Hawkline Monster” comes at a major moment for Tony McNamara, the writer who is currently earning praise for creating the new Hulu period comedy “The Great,” starring Elle Fanning and Nicholas Hoult. McNamara co-wrote “The Favourite” with Deborah Davis.

New Regency has acquired the film rights to the long-gestating adaptation of Richard Brautigan’s Gothic Western novel The Hawkline Monster which the legendary Hal Ashby had been trying to get to the big screen, Deadline has confirmed. Roy Lee (It), Andrew Trapani (Winchester), and Steven Schneider (Pet Sematary) will serve as producers.
The Harold & Maude filmmaker first acquired The Hawkline Monster in 1975, a year after the book was published and attempted to adapt it into a film. Various stars were attached including Jack Nicholson, Dustin Hoffman as well as Jeff and Beau Bridges. Following the death of Brautigan in 1984 and then Ashby in 1988, Tim Burton fell in line to develop the project for Nicholson and Clint Eastwood. The adaptive rights then fell into limbo between the Ashby and Brautigan estates for decades before New Regency picked up the rights.

Though it's been retired since 1967, ocean liner Queen Mary has been a hotbed of paranormal activity over the years, crowned one of the top 10 most haunted places in America by Time Magazine in 2008. The perfect setting for a horror flick? You bet!
As reported by Variety, Ubiquity Studios is financing development and production of its first feature film, which will be set and filmed on the infamous Queen Mary.
"We’re calling it 'The Shining on a ship'," said Ubiquity CEO Chris Carmichael, who will exec produce along with Connie Jordan. Brett Tomberlin of Ubiquity Studios will produce along with Andrew Trapani and Brian Gilbert of Nine/8 Entertainment.
The untitled project will be written by Gary Dauberman, and shooting is set to begin in the spring of 2014.
The Queen Mary first sailed in 1936 and was the Cunard Line’s flagship until being commissioned as an allied troop transport following the outbreak of World War II.

Showtime is developing a one-hour scripted drama set behind the scenes of a pro basketball team and the family that runs it, and the network is working with people in the know to make it happen. Bull Durham and White Men Can’t Jump writer-director Ron Shelton is set to pen, helm and executive produce the project, from Lakers exec Jeanie Buss and Linda Rambis’ Street Reason Entertainment. Phil Jackson, the former Lakers coach who led them to five NBA titles, will also exec produce as will Kurt Rambis, the former Lakers star and now assistant coach. Buss is a longtime exec with the Lakers and the daughter of former owner Jerry Buss, who died in February after a prolific run with the team that included 10 championships. Jeanie Buss and Jackson are engaged after meeting during his tenure with the team, and are expected to bring their real-life experience working...

We're finally going to get a movie based on the legendary Winchester Mystery House! I've been wondering when we would get to see an awesome movie based on this creepy old mansion. Hammer has announced that they've optioned the rights to develop a feature length horror film based on what's considered to be the “world’s most haunted house.”
It's fun to explore the realm of the supernatural world, and I took a trip up to the Winchester Mystery House in San Jose, CA a few years back to check it out for myself, and I really had a great time. It's such an incredibly creepy house with an intensely awesome and interesting history. I had an absolute blast taking the tour.

Having toured the Winchester Mystery House personally, I can attest to the fact that the place is as odd as they come. Seriously weird. Windows in the floor. Doors that go nowhere. It's truly a sight and the perfect place for a ghost story based upon, well, the real life ghost stories!

One of the prevalent (and, frankly, valid) criticisms of The Haunting In Connecticut upon its theatrical release earlier this year was one that has been leveled at many films of its ilk: to wit, why don’t the characters just leave the house when the scary things start happening? One of the commentary tracks on Haunting’s recently released DVD, the filmmakers offer an explanation that the movie itself does not: Because they can’t afford to.
That would seem to make Haunting rather timely given the current housing crisis, except that it’s “Based on True Events” that occurred a couple of decades ago. The initially uninitiated could be forgiven for thinking that those “true events” were the ones that took place in Amityville, as Haunting’s story follows the template of Amityville Horror and countless similar features, with strange sounds, apparitions and incidents plaguing the Campbell family in their new dwelling,...

With the success of Lionsgates' The Haunting in Connecticut at the box office, those associated with the project are all looking toward some new haunting tales to tell that may end up as a trilogy and more!
Two bits of news tonight from two different outlets. First up - Bloody-Disgusting reports that a sequel is currently in development called The Haunting in New York, which is based upon true events that were once detailed in the Discovery Channel series "A Haunting" as episode two in its second season called "The Diabolical". During the three years they've lived in their home, Marie has witnessed her communicating with someone she could not see. Marie was unworried, having decided it was positive angels. Andrew Trapani can't get enough of creepy abodes. The producer behind Lionsgate's spring release The Haunting in Connecticut has his eyes fixed on a film based on San Jose's Winchester Mystery House. Now a tourist attraction, the home once belonged to Sarah Winchester, the widow of gun magnate William Winchester, and is reportedly haunted. Sarah Winchester had the house under construction for 38 years, believing that the additions would appease the spirits of those killed by Winchester rifles. The house served as inspiration for the Stephen King telefilm Rose Red . Trapani tells Mercury News: "I must have toured the house a dozen times. The question isn't what is fascinating about the Winchester but what's not fascinating about it? As a kid, it was a big scary place...

No-one’s seen it yet but already new horror flick The Haunting in Connecticut is causing a stir. The supernatural film starring Virginia Madsen (Sideways) as a mother that relocates her family to a new home which turns out to be haunted opens at cinemas in both the UK and Us from today and before a frame has been shown to the public, commotion has been caused by this allegedly true story. All the fuss is over the real-life house, which now under new ownership has been besieged by fans eager to see for themselves if the property is indeed haunted. It’s been an exhausting trial for the new occupants that insist there’s nothing to see here but still the crowds come.

A Haunting In Connecticut, the fact-based story of a family dealing with supernatural forces in their new home that target their teen son—who’s already suffering from cancer—marks the first meaty role for 22-year-old co-star Kyle Gallner (previously seen to much less sympathetic effect in Red). The young actor was looking forward to the challenge offered by the film, which opens March 27 from Lionsgate.
“Kyle from the get-go really understood the complexity of this character,” producer Andrew Trapani says during the film’s shoot. “In a sense, he has the most difficult part, because he has to be somebody you sympathize with due to his cancer, but then you have to be a little bit afraid of him, because he could be the antagonist. It’s a tightrope that he has to walk, and it was apparent that he had the chops to execute this.”

Some houses carry memories, and as Fango is ushered onto the set of Lionsgate’s long-anticipated, fact-based ghost story The Haunting In Connecticut (opening March 27), it’s clear that this house is one of them. The scene today is an intense exchange between actors Virginia Madsen (returning to the horror genre over a decade after Candyman and The Prophecy) and Kyle Gallner (recently seen in Red) as mother and son, in the aftermath of a paranormal visitation.
Wooden chairs are piled from floor to ceiling in an unnatural configuration, the way a building destroyed by a tornado takes on an unrecognizable, abstract shape. Hidden behind this mound of furniture is the retreating body of teenaged Matt Campbell (Gallner), sweating, shivering and grasping onto a wall marred with bloody scratches. His mother Sara (Madsen) approaches him with a mix of trepidation and concern, as unnerved by the sight of her hysterical son as we are.
