There hasn't been a surer big screen bet in Hollywood over the last 30-plus years than James Cameron -- though he doesn't always make it easy on the studio footing the bill for his latest film on the way to the multiplex. Since recovering from his only true box office disappointment in 1989's "The Abyss" (which also happens to be his best movie), Cameron has been on the hook for The Most Expensive Movie Ever Made at least three times. Studio heads try their mightiest to never wind up holding that bag, but they also don't want to be the clown that said no to Cameron only to watch the maestro take his nine-figure "gamble" across town, where it becomes The Highest Grossing Movie Ever Made (a peak Cameron has summited twice) for their competitor.
Given the exorbitant price tags of his movies, Cameron places additional pressure on the studio...

The beloved Fox police procedural drama, Bones, captivated mystery and crime series lovers for 12 seasons, running from 2005 to 2017. Following a brilliant forensic anthropologist Dr. Temperance Brennan and her charismatic partner, FBI Special Agent Seeley Booth, the show skillfully intertwined complex criminal cases with rich character-driven narratives.

A Reddit thread revealed that some "Bones" fans were a little confused by the season 1 credit sequence — and as a result, they mixed up two of the actors.
During the season 1 credits, for whatever reason, actor T.J. Thyne's name runs under an image of Emily Deschanel — who plays the show's lead character, Temperance "Bones" Brennan" — and these Redditors admitted that this was seriously baffling at the time. As the original poster u/camdoodlebop titled the thread (complete with a screenshot), "did anyone else as a kid used to think her name was Tj Thyne?"
u/Chilly_0556 agreed and said they had that exact same issue: "Yes lmao. I first watched Bones with my brother when I was like 10, he was 14 hahaha, we'd watch episodes together sometimes. It was funny when I actually started watching it again, and realised that wasn't her name." At least the people on the thread...

Throughout its 12-season run, Hart Hanson's "Bones" acquired a reputation for basing its bizarre plot lines on astonishingly real events. For the investigative crew at the Jeffersonian Institution, the stranger the better.
"Bones" did, however, have a threshold. Obviously, being a network series, it could only go push so far with the blood and guts. Also holding Hanson and his writers back just a tad was the audience's goodwill. Though people loved "Bones" for its gallows sense of humor and gory spectacle, they were just as enamored of the characters. From the central relationship between Emily Deschanel's Bones and David Boreanaz's Seely Booth to the camaraderie and romances shared by their deep bench of subordinates, the show treated its dedicated fan base as part of an endearingly twisted family. So, while viewers were always on guard (if not positively giddy) for stomach-turning crime scenes, they weren't necessarily...

Thanks to the lightning-quick rise of the internet around the tail-end of the 20th century, the entertainment industry suddenly had a shiny new tool at its disposal to promote its products. And while the eventual rise of Facebook and Twitter would send social media marketing into overdrive, Hart Hanson's "Bones" proved to be exceptionally savvy at navigating the wild, wild west that is the information superhighway in the years that came both before and after that. In fact, as early as its second season, Hanson's gooey-gross procedural rom-com had already started using the ancient relic known as MySpace to make its viewers feel like they themselves were playing an active role in the show's weekly murder investigations. Such was the case with season 2, episode 20, "The Glowing Bones in the Old Stone House."

Premiering on September 13, 2005, and ending just short of 12 years later on March 28, 2017, "Bones" straddled the line between the post-9/11 media of the 2000s and Obama-era pop culture. You can see that in the show's politics, which, like a lot of network TV, skewed centrist for much of its run.
This is also reflected in the series' characters. David Boreanaz's FBI Agent Seeley Booth is a military man, but he doesn't that responsibility lightly. His beliefs put him at loggerheads with T.J. Thyne's sarcastic entomologist Jack Hodgins, who started out as a caricature of far-left types, spouting wild conspiracy theories fueled by his distrust of the government. Emily Deschanel's anthropologist Temperance "Bones" Brennan, ever the rationalist, was the buffer between them and was only ever interested in the facts of their murder investigations, not assumptions or gut feelings.

Spending in television is a game of chance. Some weeks, you can keep things on the cheap and get away with doing a glorified bottle episode. Other times, you have to construct your own golf course because the locals don't take kindly to you wanting to fake a plane crash on their freshly-mowed grass, complete with (also fake but still nasty) dismembered body parts.
"Bones" season 1, episode 14, "The Man on the Fairway," finds everyone's favorite sensible forensics expert, the good Dr. Temperance "Bones" Brennan (Emily Deschanel), and her motley crew investigating said plane crash at a golf course not too far from Virginia Beach. In a firmly on-brand coincidence, Bones and the gang happen upon the remains of a non-passenger while inspecting the crash site. The episode takes the usual twists and turns from there, even delving into "Fargo" territory when Bones and all deduce that the victim was likely...

"Bones" had an almost miraculous 12 season run on Fox and, in the days of streaming shows being lucky to make it to three seasons, that feels downright unthinkable. Part of what kept the show going -- aside from the whole murder of the week appeal of it all -- is the fact that the show's writers weren't pulling punches. A prime example of that is the season 11 mid-season finale, which led to T.J. Thyne's Hodgins being paralyzed from the waist down. It was a bold move, and Thyne went all-in when it came to playing his longtime character with his new disability.
The episode in question, titled "The Doom in the Boom," centers on the investigation of a murdered police officer. At the end of the episode, a bomb was detonated, with both Hodgins and Aubrey (John Boyd) caught in the blast. Hodgins suffered a spinal cord injury that...

Ensembles are the lifeblood of television. "Scooby-Doo" had the Mystery Machine team. "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" had the Scooby Gang (no relation). "Riverdale" had its polycule, which it ultimately dubbed the "Quad." With its distinctive blend of humor and horror, Hart Hanson's "Bones" followed the motley crew at the Jeffersonian Institute as they cracked murder cases week in, week out. But when you really drill down to its core, you'll find that a lot of the show's most endearing players weren't around for as long as you might think.
Takes Dr. Sweets. Everybody's favorite nerdy FBI psychologist infamously died a heartbreaking premature death after John Francis Daley's directing career went into overdrive. Still, you'd be forgiven for forgetting that he didn't actually show up until season 3, episode 4, "The Secret in the Soil," considering he ultimately appeared in an eye-watering 138 episodes (albeit out of 246 total). The same goes for Cam.

In genre television series fandom, there isn't a more reliable argument starter than "What is the best episode of X show?" Devotees of "Star Trek" The Original Series will fight to their dying breath defending the likes of "The City on the Edge of Forever," "The Enemy Within," and "Amok Time". As for the original "The Twilight Zone," it could be "The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street," "Nightmare at 20,000 Feet," "To Serve Man," or just about any other episode because the series had very few duds. And then, of course, there's "Airwolf." Where to start with "Airwolf?" The winning move is not to start, because we'll never stop!

It was only appropriate that the 1,000th episode of the NCISverse aired on the Mother Ship.
While NCIS Season 21 Episode 7 didn't live up to all the hype (what could have?), it was still enjoyable and well-constructed.
It also skillfully drew upon NCIS's long history, going back 21 seasons.
The spotlight fell on Rocky Carroll's Director Vance, who has been too close to becoming a recurring character in recent seasons.
The storyline hearkened back to one of Vance's shining emotional moments when his wife Jackie was killed during an assassination attempt on Eli David on NCIS Season 10 Episode 11.
As expected, that event had lasting repercussions on the Vance family.

"Bones" is a show that had its fair share of dead bodies to contend with during its 12-season run. It makes sense, given that it's a show about people trying to solve deadly crimes. But one of the show's most hard-to-contend-with bodies came early on during its first season, so much so that Eric Millegan, who played Zack Addy, had a difficult time even being around it. It was, as he put it, "really gross."
The body in question showed up in the episode "A Man on Death Row," which was the seventh episode of the show overall. It centers on Brennan (Emily Deschanel) and Booth (David Boreanaz) investigating the case of a man on death row who some claim is innocent. They dig up new evidence, including two additional murders. This forces them to question the legitimacy of the forthcoming execution. Part of digging through the case involved digging up a years-old body.

Thanks to his roles as perhaps Stars Hollow's most unorthodox resident, Kirk Gleason, on "Gilmore Girls" and the sensitive Ravager Kraglin Obfonteri in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (where he also served as the on-set stand-in for Rocket Racoon), most people have probably laid their eyes upon Sean Gunn's mug at some point. For a long time, though, he was one of those actors who could pop his head into a major film or TV series, then vanish before you even had time to register whether you recognized that dude from somewhere.
Like his brother, filmmaker James Gunn, Sean Gunn got his start on Troma's B-movie farce "Tromeo and Juliet" in 1996. A few years after that, he scored a small role in a major TV venture, playing the demonic Lucas in the first season of the "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" spinoff "Angel." For a great many actors, getting on a long-running TV show is the dream. Steady work is hard to come by as an actor, and network television is one of the best ways to find such work. Actor T.J. Thyne found himself in precisely that situation playing Jack Hodgins on Fox's "Bones." For 12 seasons, Thyne got to bring the forensic entomologist to life, but in taking the job, the actor put himself in precisely the situation he had been avoiding for years.
Speaking with Oh No They Didn't! in 2007, just a couple of seasons into the show's run on Fox, Thyne was asked about playing the same character for so many episodes for multiple years. In response, he explained that he had previously resisted such things, because he didn't want to get stuck doing the same thing for years on end. But in this case, it proved to be the right situation for him.

For an impressive 12 seasons, Hart Hanson's sweet-and-scary procedural crime series "Bones" kept viewers on their toes with a colorful assortment of forensically baffling mysteries, terrifying villains, and unpredictable character arcs. That last quality might very well be key to the series' longevity. Yes, fans tuned in every week to see Bones (Emily Deschanel), Booth (David Boreanaz), and the Jeffersonian gang use their great big brains to crack an intriguing new case, but the who- and howdunnit elements were often secondary to the simple pleasure of watching characters viewers grew to love fall in love with each other.
The camaraderie was endearing in and of itself, but when workplace romances blossomed into full-blown relationships, the will-they-or-won't-they tension gave when to a when-will-they-put-a-ring-on-it anticipation. Given the show's healthy ratings, Hanson and his writers were never in a rush to get their characters to the altar. In some cases, they let things...

Bones said goodbye after 12 seasons on Tuesday night, with a series finale that paid tribute to the brilliant mind of Dr. Temperance Brennan, by showing what life would be like without it.
In the aftermath of the bombing at the Jeffersonian, Brennan (Emily Deschanel) thankfully survives -- as do Booth (David Boreanaz), Hodgins (T.J. Thyne) and Angela (Michaela Conlin) -- but she knows immediately that something’s wrong. Unable to remember what she was doing prior to the explosion or recall what the team was working on, Brennan tearfully insists to Booth that “something is wrong with me.”
And she’s right. Once the foursome escapes the rubble of the Medico-Legal Lab, Cam (Tamara Taylor) informs the forensic anthropologist that she has a contusion on her corpus callosum, the nerves that join the two hemispheres of the brain. Essentially, the brilliant scientist has lost her ability to process complex information, a devastating...

It seems fitting that for much of the Bones series finale, there were just bones everywhere. Every episode of the show, of course, has a lot of bones, since it's called Bones, but thanks to the lab exploding, the series finale saw Bones (Emily Deschanel) wading through thousands of bones, all mixed up and all over the place. There were just so many bones. And for a while, Bones herself had no idea what to do with them. At the end of last week's episode, we saw the team discovering that the Jeffersonian was filled with multiple explosives, right before the entire thing exploded, with Booth (David Boreanaz), Bones, pregnant Angela (Michaela Conlin), and Hodgins (T.J. Thyne) all trapped in the...

When Bones signs off on Tuesday night, after 12 seasons on Fox, it will do so as the network’s longest-running scripted drama, having solved -- according to finale promos -- 275 cases in 246 episodes. And that prolific conviction rate may not even be the most impressive thing that the series accomplished.
Because Bones -- which was based on the life and works of real-life forensic anthropologist Kathy Reichs -- did more than just stay on the air, leapfrogging more than 20 different time slots in its 12-year run. In a television landscape populated with morose antiheroes and sarcastic protagonists that often poke fun at the earnestness of cops-and-science procedurals like Bones, sometimes directly by name (see: American Dad, Bojack Horseman, Bob’s Burgers and more), the show was a champion of justice and evidence, science and guts, “brains and heart.” It told new stories every week, while at the same time unfolding its central characters little by little, making...

Warning: Spoiler alert! Do not proceed if you haven’t watched Tuesday’s Bones.
Bones set the stage for its series finale on Tuesday’s explosive penultimate episode, which, true to form for the long-running Fox procedural, combined the joy of a wedding with the terror of a killer on the loose. And everything ended with a bang.
The episode, titled “The Day in the Life,” flashed back and forward around the events of Cam (Tamara Taylor) and Arastoo’s (Pej Vahdat) reception, giving fans a chance to see the happy couple and all their friends and relatives -- Michelle! Felicia! Most of the old “squinterns!” -- celebrating their much-deserved bliss.
However, the honeymoon doesn’t last long, as the next morning Cam and Arastoo are summoned back to the Jeffersonian Institute’s Medico-Legal Lab, where, as Brennan (Emily Deschanel) puts it, “everything” has gone wrong.

Three episodes were provided prior to broadcast.
Let’s be honest: Not too many live action shows have lasted for longer than a handful of seasons on Fox (just ask The Finder). But those that have are among the most hallowed in the annals of television history. So I find hit highly befitting that Bones join the pantheon of such heavyweights as Married… With Children, The X-Files, 24 and House.
Over the course of the past few decades, it seems like a billion police procedurals have come and gone. What allowed Bones in particular to rise above the rest was not only concocting riveting mysteries each week to enthrall millions of viewers, it was also its reliance on presenting sound scientific investigation to the masses in stylish fashion, and its ability to craft characters that the audience actually cares about. Aside from perhaps Law & Order: Svu and NCIS, I’m not...
