Already an accomplished radio actor, he was originally cast to solely provide the voice for "Azal" in Doctor Who (1963). When the "Doctor Who" producer saw how big he was, he gave him the part of "Azal" on the screen, as well.
A prolific voice actor, he recorded over 300 unabridged audio books including children's stories.
Trained at RADA.
