Olga Sumskaya was born in Lvov, Soviet Union in a family of actors of the Academic Drama Theater named after Ivan Franko. In 1987 she graduated from KGITI named after Ivan Karpenko-Karyy. And the following year she became an actress of the National Academic Theater of Russian Drama named after Lesya Ukrainka.
