- Was four-time American Wrestling Association (AWA) World Tag-Team Champion, three times with "Wicked" Nick Bockwinkle in the 1970s and with Pat Patterson from Sept. 22, 1978 to June 6, 1979.
- Two-time National Wrestling Alliance (NWA) World Tag-Team Champion with Jimmy Snuka (1980) and Ivan Koloff (1981)
- Was involved in one of the earliest controversies in the World-Wide Wrestling Federation (WWWF, now World Wrestling Entertainment, or WWE). Stevens wrestled WWWF World Champion Bruno Sammartino in a 1967 title match in California, which Stevens won by countout. There was some debate as to whether "the Crippler" should have won the title; the WWWF's rules stated a title could not change hands via countout, while West Coast-based promotions typically awarded a championship to wrestlers who won a title match by countout. Eventually, it was decided Sammartino could keep his title, and the WWWF title lost prestige on the West Coast as a result.
- Won the Pro Wrestling Illustrated Tag Team of the Year Award, along with partner "Superfly" Jimmy Snuka
- One of Stevens' matches with "Superfly" Jimmy Snuka was added as a bonus match on the recent WWE DVD "Best of Confidential: Volume 1".
- Notable feud with former tag team partner "Superfly" Jimmy Snuka in 1982/83, which started when Stevens turned on Snuka and piledrove him on the concrete floor. This act helped elevate Snuka to being the popular wrestler in the WWF in 1983.
- Notable Title Wins Include: AWA Tag Team titles (4); Amarillo Brass Knuckles title (2); NWA Tag Team titles (3); Mid-Atlantic Heavyweight title; Southern Junior Heavyweight title (3); Florida Television title (2); Mid-Atlantic Tag Team titles (3); Hawaii United States Heavyweight title
- Inducted into the Professional Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2006.
