Alas, the end of 2024 is drawing closer, and another Game of Thrones spinoff, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, waits in the wings of 2025.
This particular prequel is an exciting prospect for the keen and savvy book readers out there.
Given what we know of the books, Max’s latest outing (Max is on a roll heading into 2025) should easily develop into a multi-series story.

There are three books in the Dunk and Egg series (the nicknames given to two of the story’s primary characters), and their story is set some hundred years before the events of Game of Thrones.
In fact, Dunk (short for Duncan) interacted with one of the characters every Game of Thrones viewer is familiar with.

“Fargo” exec producer Noah Hawley is currently busy at work on the new series “Alien: Earth” for FX. But if he had time, the show he’d really like to work on is “True Detective.”
“Oh my God. Let’s do it,” said “True Detective: Night Country” exec producer Issa Lopez. Added Hawley: “I would only do it with you.”
Hawley, Lopez and “Lessons in Chemistry” exec producer Lee Eisenberg sat down recently with Variety’s Virtual FYC Fest: The Nominees to discuss their Emmy nods in limited or anthology series — and found some interesting connections between their shows.
“What I loved about what Issa did was to take this sort of magic realism and really expand that idea that was always present in ‘True Detective,’ the extreme location and creating a mystery that is both literal and metaphorical,” Hawley said. “I think that’s always really interesting.

Seven actors have joined the cast of the A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms series, including an actor to play Daeron Targaryen. Henry Ashton is taking on the role, which has been mentioned but not seen in House of the Dragon on HBO. By the time of Knight, the character is called Daeron the Drunken and is known for having prophetic dreams.
The new additions will join the previously revealed cast of Peter Claffey, Dexter Sol, Finn Bennett, Bertie Carvel, Tanzyn Crawford, Daniel Ings, and Sam Spruell. These two Game of Thrones prequel series are set 100 years apart, so viewers will likely see different people and characters in the timeline.

HBO’s fantasy show, Game of Thrones, has undoubtedly left its footprint on the industry and we are not expecting it to leave anytime soon. The show, which ended in 2019 still holds much influence on its fans with the stories of Westeros, dragons, Iron Throne, and a lot of Houses. As its prequel series, House of the Dragon has already aired the first season, instantly getting renewed for another season which is airing currently, the original show may never stop working on releasing the stories of the different eras regarding Westeros’ history. Thanks to the rich detailing of the story, several other projects are under-development or in talks to further explore stories from George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire. Let’s talk about the spinoffs that will take the viewers to a deeper history of Westeros and beyond.

Once again, the Emmy Awards nominations don’t include a slew of TV favorites. Among the most notable snubs: Emma Stone for Best Drama Actress and a complete shutout of her Showtime series “The Curse.” Equally surprising was “Shogun” supporting actresses Moeka Hoshi and Fumi Nikaido missing the ballot. On the comedy side, Netflix’s “The Gentlemen” missed for Comedy Series and a forecasted bid for its star Theo James. And although “The Bear” had a solid morning overall, Abby Elliott wasn’t able to ride the wave of fortune in Best Comedy Supporting Actress. Oliver Platt and Matty Matheson were also snubbed on the Supporting Actor side.
Below, we enumerate the top 50 Emmys snubs in our estimation. These were the shows and performers that we thought had a strong chance to number among this year’s nominees. Let us know if there are others missing from this list that...

Filmmaking duo Joe Williams and Charlie Edwards-Moss’ latest short film O, Glory! is a thrilling folk horror that pays homage to the iconic films of the 70s that founded the horror sub-genre whilst also ushering in the co-directors’ modern sensibility to the formula. The story follows a psychiatric doctor who visits an isolated house when he learns of a potential patient by the name of Deborah, whose brother believes she is beginning to lose her mind. What then unfolds is a story of hysteria, hallucinatory paranoia and twists that keep you on your toes through a palpably tense atmosphere and genuine moments of terror. Dn invited Williams and Edwards-Moss to join us for a chat about their filmmaking trajectory as creative partners, the era of filmmaking they drew influence from, and the artistic decision to capture everything on the scratchy, tactility of the 35mm film.

The “House of the Dragon” Season 2 premiere brought Max its most-watched day in history, Warner Bros. Discovery said on Tuesday. This, despite the Season 2 premiere being down 22 percent from the series premiere in 2022. How does that work?

The “House of the Dragon” series premiere on August 21, 2022 on HBO Max landed 10 million cross-platform viewers. Sunday’s Season 2 premiere received 7.8 million viewers across Max and linear HBO. Each episode from the first season ultimately reached about 29 million viewers, so we’ve got a long way to go here.
HBO Max and Discovery+ combined a little over a year ago to form Max. Discovery+ is still available as a standalone option — albeit not a very popular one.

Although it looks like the Jon Snow sequel series starring Kit Harington is no longer moving forward, there are still a number of Game of Thrones spin-off shows in development, including A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight.
Production is now underway in Belfast, Northern Ireland, and HBO/Max has released a first official look at Peter Claffey as Ser Duncan the Tall, aka "Dunk." It seems we're going to have to wait a little longer for a glimpse of Dexter Sol Ansell as his young squire, the secret Targaryen prince Aegon, aka "Egg."
Several new cast members have also been announced, including Finn Bennett (True Detective: Night Country) as Aerion Targaryen, Bertie Carvel (The Crown) as Baelor Targaryen, Tanzyn Crawford (Tiny Beautiful Things) as Tanselle, Daniel Ings (The Gentlemen) as Ser Lyonel Baratheon, and Sam Spruell (Fargo) as Maekar Targaryen.

When it came to Fargo‘s fifth chapter, no character was more perplexing than Sam Spruell‘s sin-eater Ole Munch, who donned a kilt and did other people’s dirty work for a price. And when they couldn’t pay up? He sought satisfaction through more biblical means. First hired by Jon Hamm‘s Roy Tillman to kidnap his runaway wife Dorothy “Dot” Lyon (Juno Temple), Ole Munch quickly becomes a foe to the rogue sheriff and his son Gator (Joe Keery), when they refuse to properly pay him for his efforts after Dot attacked him, left his cohort dead, and put him out. When Gator accidentally kills the old woman he’d taken up residence with, Ole Munch takes the boy’s eyes out with a hot poker. Proving to be ruthless, it is ultimately Dot’s kindness that sets him on a new path after years of loneliness...

Editor’s note: Deadline’s It Starts on the Page features standout limited or anthology series scripts in 2024 Emmy contention.
Typically a series five seasons in can show signs of wear and tear. However, for Fargo creator Noah Hawley a fifth time was a charm, not just in a stronger homage to the original 1996 multi-Oscar winning movie, but a deconstruction of current day red-state attitudes. For him, Fargo is about the tragedy that occurs when people fail to communicate, and this season centers around the varying definitions of freedom. Not to mention, it features several twists and turns one doesn’t see coming.
Season 5 follows Juno Temple as Dot Lyon, a housewife with a dark past who is mired in warring America, for Episode 1 tees off with a riot that breaks out at a school board meeting which results in the show’s protagonist tasing an officer and heading to...

Welcome to My Favorite Scene! In this series, IndieWire speaks to actors behind a few of our favorite television performances about their personal-best onscreen moment and how it came together.

The number of Gold Derby readers predicting the 2024 Primetime Emmy nominations in 16 major categories has risen above 2,000 even with the nominations announcement still three months away. Our predicted lineups have changed significantly within the last week alone, indicating increased support for some programs and greater apathy toward others.
Four new predicted acting nominees have emerged since April 1. The only one hailing from a continuing series is Theo James (“The Gentlemen”), who grabbed the fifth comedy lead actor spot from Kelsey Grammer (“Frasier”). FX’s hit television show Fargo just wrapped up its fifth season. Fargo loosely based on the 1996 movie of the same name first debuted on the network way back in 2014. Each season of the show follows a mostly new cast of characters who get involved with murder investigations in different Midwestern towns. Each crime is somehow connected.
Season five was no different from the past seasons. The fifth season of Fargo follows It stars Juno Temple as Dorothy “Dot” Lyon, a seemingly typical Midwestern housewife living in Scandia, Minnesota, whose mysterious past comes back to haunt her after she lands in hot water with the authorities. Season five also stars Jennifer Jason Leigh, Jon Hamm, Joe Keery, Lamorne Morris, Dave Foley, and Sam Spruell.
The cast and the stories may change throughout the seasons of Fargo, but there has been one person from the beginning that we owe a big thank you to.

[This story contains spoilers from Fargo’s season five finale, “Bisquik.”]
For Fargo season five star Juno Temple, nothing was going to get in the way of Dorothy “Dot” Lyon’s mostly happy ending.
When the dust settled on Noah Hawley’s tremendous fifth season of Fargo, Dot finally overcame her wickedly abusive ex-husband Roy Tillman (Jon Hamm), his hired gun who happened to be a 500-year-old sin-eater named Ole Munch (Sam Spruell) and her mistrustful mother-in-law, Lorraine Lyon (Jennifer Jason Leigh). Dot thought her quarrel with Munch was settled when he saved her and freed her at Roy’s ranch so she could put a stop to the latter’s vicious cycle of abuse once and for all, but a year after Roy ended up in handcuffs, Dot and her daughter Scotty (Sienna King) arrived home to see Munch sitting in their living room with their respective, unsuspecting husband and father, Wayne (David Rysdahl...

As touching as Juno Temple’s role on “Fargo” may have been for fans of the FX anthology series, it’s a relationship that goes both ways. The actress described her time on Noah Hawley’s anthology series as both “terrifying” and “one of the most extraordinary experiences” of her career.
“Characters like Dot [do] not come along very often, definitely not to me. I’m eternally grateful to Noah [Hawley] for having the faith in me to play her,” Temple told TheWrap after the crime-drama’s Season 5 finale on Tuesday. “She’s made me a much, much more aware, insightful, maybe even motherly woman. Also, it was something that challenged me in a way that I want to be challenged. I want to feel terrified every day before I go to work because I want to make people proud. This job did that in spades.

[This story contains major spoilers from the season five finale of Fargo.]
When speaking about the essence of Fargo, show creator Noah Hawley says every season only needs two things: an element of crime, and decency. Few characters embodied those ideas better in season five than Witt Farr, the more than decent state trooper bravely battling a criminal element all season long to help out Juno Temple’s Dorothy Lyon.
Played by New Girl and Woke alum Lamorne Morris, Farr barely made it out of the season premiere alive, when Sam Spruell’s menacing Ole Munch came knocking on Dot’s door. Unfortunately, Farr was not able to cheat death twice. Morris’ straight-and-narrow state trooper was the major casualty in the season five finale, killed by Jon Hamm’s menacing Roy Tillman. Farr pursued a fleeing Tillman into a tunnel, and had the man dead to rights, but decided he could not shoot in cold blood. That decent decision costs Farr his life,...

[Editor’s Note: The following interview contains spoilers for “Fargo” Season 5, Episode 10, including the ending.]
Amid the dead bodies (R.I.P. State Trooper Witt Farr) and scorched faces (remember Donald Ireland?), it can be hard to keep track of all the grievances, allegiances, and debts incurred in “Fargo.” But Mr. Munch (Sam Spruell) doesn’t forget. Like an elephant with the shortest nose and worst haircut you’ve ever seen, the assassin once hired to kidnap Dorothy “Dot” Lyon (Juno Temple) returns to her home well over a year after he first broke in. Then, he lost a lot of blood (not to mention his partner) in the ensuing skirmish, and now, he would like to see his debt of “flesh” repaid.
“Why,” Dot asks him. “Why must debt be paid? I understand keeping a promise, but people always say, ‘Debt must be paid.’ Except… what if you can’t? If you’re too poor or you lose your job,...
