What would happen if, thanks to an attempt to stop global warming that went awry, our big blue marble were plunged into a new ice age? The result would be pretty much what you would expect: Humanity's survivors would find themselves trapped on a perpetually moving supertrain divided by strict us-vs.-them barriers (plebians in the back, patricians in the front), and the huddled masses would have to fight their way to the front, one bloody siege at a time.

It's back on Rebecca, the new musical based on the classic novel by Daphne du Maurier novel and later turned into an Oscar-winning film by Alfred Hitchcock which was postponed earlier this year, will now open on Broadway Sunday, November 18 at The Broadhurst Theatre 235 West 44th Street. Previews will begin Tuesday, October 30. Rebecca will be produced by Ben Sprecher and Louise Forlenza with The Shubert Organization, DC Tours Pty Ltd, Manderley Partners, Julian Spencer, Paul Abrams, Tony Fusco, Nanda Anand, Peter Bogyo, Peter Bezemes and Dennis Grimaldi, in association with David Mirvish, Stage Entertainment and Larry Feinman and by special arrangement with Vereinigte Bhnen Wien GmbH. The executive producer is Marshall B. Purdy.

Before attending an early screening Mathew Hope's new urban thriller The Veteran, our own Hal MacDermot sat down with the director to pick his brain about the film.

"Hal: Talk to me about the inspiration for The Veteran.
Matthew: The inspiration for The Veteran is twofold . the story came out of conversations I had with the co-writer and technical advisor Robert Craft. He.d spent 24 years in the military. We were talking a lot of about soldiers returning from Afghanistan and it was born out of those conversations. Also I was inspired by Taxi Driver, the anti-hero and first person narrative. I was also into Paul Schrader.s ideas from the mid-70s . the man in his room waiting for a mission - Also, Schrader.s interest in Bresson.s movies Pickpocket...
