Anna got her start when legendary filmmaker Spike Lee hired her as a unit publicist on Jungle Fever, Mo' Better Blues, Get on The Bus, and Malcolm X. Hoping to expand her career experiences and with tenacity and grit, Anna took her New York sensibility to the West Coast serving as a senior publicity consultant at Paramount Pictures, then as Executive Director of Media Relations at Paramount Television. With the goal of being a change agent, she identified publicity as an area of meaningful impact and opened her boutique PR firm Red Sea Entertainment. Her goal was to connect Black audiences with media, major studios and networks at a time when the industry was only beginning to recognize their enormous impact on box office and TV ratings.
Her breathe of experience, creative vision, and leadership skills led to career highlights like championing groundbreaking filmmakers early in their careers such as Ryan Coogler, Jordan Peele, and Tyler Perry; working on films by other iconic directors such as the late Garry Marshall and Anthony Minghella, and Oscar winner Quentin Tarantino on his award-winning films Inglourious Basterds, Django Unchained and Hateful Eight. She also launched a PR/Marketing division at Terry Hines and Associates hyper-targeting Black audiences. There she led creative strategy, client and filmmaker relations, event execution, oversaw business development, budgets for the film and TV divisions, and provided invaluable professional experience and mentorship for her team of emerging creative executives.
A member of the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (ATAS), she holds membership in the Publicists Guild Local 600 IATSE Union, and is a two-time awards recipient for career achievement by the Black Public Relations Society. A graduate of Boston University's School of Public Communications, she holds a Master's degree from Columbia University's Graduate School of Journalism.
Her company's philanthropy includes collaborations with The Special Needs Network, The Hip Hop Chess Federation, Lift as we Climb, Athletes Against Drugs, and School on Wheels benefiting homeless children in LA.
Keeping a promise she made to Spike Lee the day he hired her, Anna has remained committed to opening doors and mentoring new and emerging talent and creatives throughout her career. A number of them now hold positions at Warner Brothers, CBS Studios, the Motion Picture Academy, Apple, Allied Moxie and several run their own firms.
