NASA's Manned Spacecraft Center, on December 28, 1969, announced the
appointment of Sigurd A. Sjoberg as Director of Flight Operations,
replacing
Christopher Kraft, Jr. After Sjoberg helped to guide the unfortunate
Apollo 13 astronauts safely back to Earth, he joined the three
astronauts in being presented the Medal of Freedom, America's highest
honor, by 'Richard M. Nixon'.
