Even Derek Jeter can learn something new about the game of baseball.
When the former New York Yankees captain joined the Fox Sports roster for the 2023 baseball season, he recalls, he had to find his way on camera. “I didn’t know what to expect. They just threw me at the desk,” Jeter says while holding forth with his colleagues Alex Rodriguez, David Ortiz and Kevin Burkhardt, in a makeshift lounge set up for them among the executive offices at New York’s Citi Field. One time, he remembers, “someone started talking to me in my ear and I almost answered them on the air.”
When this quartet convenes Friday night for commentary before and after Game 1 of the World Series, they are likely to have worked out any jitters as they start a run as one of the most-watched entities on TV. Fox has televised MLB’s signature event since 2000, but never,...

It was time.
Boomer Esiason seemed almost relieved as he discussed his departure this week from his The NFL Today cohosting duties, saying he was planning on leaving anyway.
It was announced this week that Esiason and former New York Giants quarterback Phil Simms will no longer be on the show.
Esiason said Friday during an interview on The Dan LeBatard Show that he is trying to find a better work-life balance.
“I was more than happy to step aside. I had my time there,” Esiason said. “I loved that seat. I cherished that seat, I cherished talking to football fans every Sunday, but there comes a time when you have to find some time for yourself. And this was the right time.”

The “NFL on CBS” broadcast crew may have delivered brilliant insights at halftime of the AFC Championship game today between the Cincinnati Bengals and Kansas City Chiefs.
Unfortunately, it was almost impossible to hear what they had to say. That’s because the halftime show music from country artist Walker Hayes overpowered the sound levels in the broadcast booth.
Massive speakers for the Hayes show at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City were positioned right behind the mobile set where the CBS analysts were pontificating. That made it almost impossible to discern anything said by host James Brown or analysts Phil Simms, Bill Cowher, Nate Burleson and Boomer Esiason.
At one point, Esiason said: “I didn’t hear anything you just said.”
The network shares some of the blame. During the regular season, halftime analysis emanates from a studio in New York, where the sound and lighting can be controlled. However,...

It is tradition for the Super Bowl Mvp to be asked what his next move is. They always reply, “I’m going to Disney World.”
Not this year.
The question will still be asked. But the Orlando, Fla. theme park isn’t holding its traditional post-game parade this year wherein the winning player appears on a float. It’s the pandemic, you know.
The commercial tradition began in 1987 with New York Giants quarterback Phil Simms, who reportedly was paid $75,000 to respond to the question.
The ads usually play the song When You Wish Upon a Star over action shots and crowd reactions. The culmination is the off-camera announcer asking the player, “What are you going to do next?”
The player responds “I’m going to Disney World!”
Disney World has not had parades since it reopened last summer. Disneyland in Anaheim, Calif. remains closed.

CBS kept broadcast week of upfronts rolling on Wednesday with its presentation at Carnegie Hall. Here are the five key takeaways:

CBS Corp. CEO Leslie Moonves took the stage and received a standing ovation from a sizable portion of the crowd, with others cheering and whistling. It was not a typical upfront reception for a TV exec. “So how’s your week been?” Moonves joked as he kicked off his pitch to advertisers.
Moonves’ week has seen him engage CBS’ controlling shareholder Shari Redstone in a shocking fight with the company’s future, and his own, at stake. But his upfront reception underscored one of Moonves’ most valuable assets in that battle — his track record of success and the clout that it has earned.
