Caleb Landry Jones is “DogMan,” whatever that moniker means.
The indie actor, who has appeared in the acclaimed likes of “Three Billboards Outside of Ebbing, Missouri” and “Nitram,” leads controversial French director Luc Besson’s latest feature. Per the elusive logline, “DogMan” tells the story of a man who, following a traumatic childhood, finds salvation and justice through his connection with dogs.
Yet, there’s more to the twisted crime thriller than just that: Jones plays Douglas Munrow, a victim of childhood abuse who relives his past while being interviewed by a psychiatrist (Jojo T. Gibbs) after Douglas is accused of murder. Turns out Douglas’ childhood was far from fetching, with his only source of love being the dogs his father (Clemens Schick) would lock him in cages with.
As an adult, Douglas balances performing in drag as iconic stars like Edith Piaf, Marlene Dietrich, and Marilyn Monroe with a crime spree.

Actress, director and writer Karine Silla has spoken out in defense of former partner Gérard Depardieu, with whom she has a 31-year-old daughter.
The actor, who was indicted for rape in 2021, has been at the heart of a media storm in France in recent weeks following the broadcast of a France Télévisions documentary probing multiple historic accusations of sexual misconduct against the actor.
Silla, who is the sister of Luc Besson’s wife Virginie Besson-Silla and is now married to actor Vincent Perez, told celebrity magazine Paris Match that she felt compelled to break her silence over the treatment of Depardieu.
“I thought long and hard before speaking out because, as we know, it is difficult for a surgeon to operate on his own child or for a judge to conduct a fair trial if the accused is a member of his family,” she said.

EuropaCorp CEO Axel Duroux, the French-Swiss executive who joined the Paris-based company in 2020, has stepped down from his position.
Luc Besson, who co-founded EuropaCorp in 1999, will act as the interim CEO for a limited period starting immediately, EuropaCorp said in a release.
Duroux will remain a shareholder and will continue to work closely with EuropaCorp as special advisor to the chairman until mid-May “in order to ensure the best possible handover to the new management team,” the company added.
EuropaCorp was taken over by New York fund Vine Alternative Investments in 2020, after being placed on a debt waiver by a French commercial court. As part of its restructuring plan, EuropaCorp received a new credit line of $100 million to develop a slate of films and start producing again. Besson, who previously had an operational role in the company, became artistic director with a five-year contract renewable for another two years.

Luc Besson’s Dogman had its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival on Thursday night, scoring a nearly six-minute standing ovation from the crowd inside the Palazzo del Cinema.
Caleb Landry Jones stars in the Bessonian action thriller, which already has gotten a rave review from Deadline. He was in attendance along with co-star Jojo T. Gibbs.
The film marked Besson’s comeback movie of sorts, coming after a past few years that included the disappointment of his 2017 tentpole Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets, the demise of his French studio EuropaCorp and a long-running legal entanglement relating to a rape allegation, of which he was recently cleared.

An emotional Luc Besson and his actors Caleb Landry Jones and Jojo T. Gibbs got a rapturous reception at the press conference for their Venice Film Festival movie DogMan.
The filmmaker and lead Landry Jones were applauded on multiple occasions, with one journalist moved to tears when asking her question.
The film is being billed by some as a comeback movie for Fifth Element, Lucy and Leon director Besson who has had a tumultuous five years after the high-profile box office failure of Valerian, the demise of his French studio EuropaCorp and a long-running legal entanglement relating to a rape allegation, of which he was recently cleared.
“The only two things that can save you are love and art, definitely not money. When you have both you’re lucky,” the filmmaker told the audience.
At one stage, the director thanked his actors and producer wife Virginie Besson-Silla before himself fighting back tears.

British singer-actor Luke Evans and Taiwanese female actor Gwei Lun-mei will co-star in “Weekend Escape Project,” an action thriller being produced in Taiwan by EuropaCorp.
The film marks a further comeback for EuropaCorp after a four-year hiatus that followed the personal travails of its founder, Luc Besson, and financial difficulties at the company. Besson and Virginie Besson-Silla are producing the movie for EuropaCorp. Kinology is handling international sales.
Directed by George Huang, the film (aka “Weekend in Taipei”) is set to start shooting on July 3 in Taipei, Taiwan’s capital. Production is expected to take three months and take in locations including the Ximending district, Zhongshan Hall, the Dome and Taipei City Hall.
In February, Besson-Silla scouted locations for the film with director Olivier Megaton (“Transporter 3”) and met with Taipei mayor Wayne Chiang.

Amsterdam – Europacorp, Luc Besson’s film studio, has selected Spil Games to create the official mobile and web game for Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets, the director’s upcoming $180M sci-fi movie.
The film is in post-production and will be released globally in July next year. EuropaCorp has asked Spil Games to develop a strategy game in parallel with that process, ready for launch a few weeks before the film.
“Spil Games impressed us with their vision and understanding of the world of Valerian,” said Valerian producer Virginie Besson-Silla. “We are very excited and feel they are the perfect partner to help us share Valerian with the gaming universe.”
The quality and creativity of the game is vital for a Triple A Hollywood property like Valerian but the long-term partnership with EuropaCorp also relies on Spil Games’ proven experience in creating and monetizing multi-million-dollar game franchises. The...

Valerian, the wildly ambitious sci-fi opus in the works from Luc Besson, is set to get a spinoff mobile game in time for its theatrical release next summer.
In development at Spil Games, the tie-in has been pitched as a strategy game that will become available on mobile platforms just before Valerian‘s grand debut on July 21. Further details regarding pricing and platforms weren’t disclosed at this time, but we assume that that spinoff will be compatible with both iOS and Android devices.
“Spil Games impressed us with their vision and understanding of the world of Valerian,” Valerian producer Virginie Besson-Silla said Wednesday in making the announcement. Added Besson, the game will use “the movie’s back story to create what will be a completely immersive universe for players.”
“People are talking about this film as the spiritual successor to The Fifth Element,” commented Spil Games CEO Tung Nguyen-Khac.

In an alternate universe, where time-travel is real, I wish I could go back and warn myself of something that I absolutely underestimated: the excitement I would feel for Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets. Sure, prior to attending the Hall H panel for the upcoming sci-fi flick I was certainly curious about it, but after walking away from my seat I was absolutely blown away and shivering with excitement.
Sadly, we live in this universe, where one can’t time travel, so I’m stuck replaying star Cara Delevingne kicking some Major alien butt alongside co-star Dane DeHaan over and over and over again. Based on the iconic French comic book series, titled Valerian and Laureline, and coming to us from the visionary director who brought audiences The Fifth Element, Luc Besson, the film promises to be everything you could have wanted and so much more.

In a day for internationally renowned directors making their Hall H debuts, the French filmmaker and Europacorp chief quickly found his footing in San Diego as he shared first images and footage from Valerian And The City Of A Thousand Planets.
Besson, who finished shooting five weeks ago, said he still had a sizeable amount of the 2,734 FX shots to complete and expected the film to be finished in ten months. It is scheduled to open in exactly one year’s time on July 21, 2017.
Ever the showman, the director of such cult favourites as Leon, The Fifth Element and recent global hit Lucy brought footage with him.
What became immediately clear was that in Cara Delevingne he has found his latest female action hero.

Exactly one year from today — July 21, 2017 — “Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets” starring Dane Dehane and Cara Delevingne will premiere in theaters. And based on what was screened at San Diego Comic-Con 2016, Luc Besson may have once again brought to life a delicious blend of sci-fi, action, and comedy.
Besson’s filmography not only includes impressive works like “The Professional” and “La Femme Nikita,” but also the cult sci-fi favorite “The Fifth Element,” which brought a lived-in feel (as well as some breathtaking action sequences) to a futuristic world.
“Fifth Element” was famously a childhood dream project of Besson’s, but making “Valerian” looks to bring him full circle to childhood thanks to the original comic series “Valerian and Laureline,” which he fell in love with at the age of 10. Later, when making “Fifth Element,” he encountered artist Jean-Claude Mézières, who drew “Valerian,” and they worked together to create the “Element” look.

Fans have been holding out for a sequel to The Fifth Element for nearly twenty years now. Unfortunately, as writer-director Luc Besson's producer (and wife) Virginie Besson-Silla told us last year in an interview, that sequel is highly unlikely to ever happen. But, if what you loved about that sci-fi classic was its far future setting, alien races, interstellar weirdness, and Earth being caught up in a war for the universe, then you'll be happy to hear about Besson's next movie. Besson announced the news on Twitter that he will be directing Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets, an adaptation of the French comic series. The name alone already has us imagining the tone of it all, but the comic's plot [via Amazon] is very, very Fifth Element-y: Valerian and...

One of those risks happens to be Jack and the Cuckoo-Clock Heart, a delightful, romantic, quirky animated movie with an amazing soundtrack that's now available on Blu-ray and DVD...
