It's a brutally hot Monday morning in lower Manhattan. I'm at the offices of Oscilloscope Labs, the indie distributor releasing Evan Glodell's beautiful and batshit crazy new film "Bellflower." When I first lay eyes on Glodell, standing in Oscillopscope's corner conference room, he's shaking water from his hands onto a drenched coffee table. Apparently, just before I arrived, Glodell had an explosive altercation with a water jug during a photo shoot.
Things have a tendency to explode around Evan Glodell. Later during our conversation, Glodell will tell me about the time the engine of Medusa, the intensely badass car fixated upon by the heroes of his movie, blew up during a particularly taxing stunt. And then there's "Bellflower" itself, which explodes off the screen with incendiary imagery and fiery performances. (Hopefully very) loosely inspired by events in Glodell's own life, "Bellflower" follows Woodrow (Glodell) and Aiden (Tyler Dawson), two...

Sometimes acting can get a bit out of hand, especially method acting, as you're about to see.
During a scene in which star Michael Biehn was set to struggle with a crooked cop, played by Ryan Honey, things went shall we say ... not as planned? According to Bloody Disgusting here's how it went down:
"According to Biehn, he insisted - against stunt coordinator Tony Snegoff's advice - that Honey not only use a genuine Lapd chokehold, but that he actually cut off his air supply in order to heighten the realism of the scene. Unfortunately, the actor didn't "tap out" soon enough - as you can see, confused cast and crew members wait several seconds before realizing he's actually blacked out from the pressure (note his twitching hands). Luckily, Biehn came out of the experience unscathed...though needless to say, they went with a different hold when doing re-takes.

Yesterday B-d was on set of new psychological horror-thriller The Victim, directed by newcomer Brock Morse and starring genre faves Michael Biehn ("Aliens", "Grindhouse") and Danielle Harris (Rob Zombie's "Halloween", "Hatchet 2"), and we've now been given exclusive behind-the-scenes footage of a scene in which Biehn struggles with a crooked cop, played by Ryan Honey, during which Biehn the actor passes out For Real! According to Biehn, he insisted - against stunt coordinator Tony Snegoff's advice - that Honey not only use a genuine Lapd chokehold, but that he actually cut off his air supply in order to heighten the realism of the scene.
