Paul Bogaards, whose departure from Alfred A. Knopf earlier this month brought a close to his 32-year career as a publicity and marketing exec at the publishing house, is already on to the next chapter: Bogaards announced today the launch of his new company, Bogaards Public Relations LLC.
Clients already lined up include authors Robert Caro, Dani Shapiro and Clémence Michallon, The Joan Didion Estate and The Sonny Mehta Fellowships in Creative Writing.
In an email to colleagues today, Bogaards describes the model for the new company as “a long runway business, not a quick fix shop.”
“If you are looking for someone to book a tour – that’s not us,” he writes. “Think of us as project managers – with you, your work, or your company as the project. Our mission is to help writers broaden their readership through careful analysis of their work and by developing long arc campaigns for their books and identities.

Exclusive: Oscar winning actress Holly Hunter is in talks to star and produce the feature adaptation of Sue Miller’s bestselling novel Monogamy.
Killer Films and Yellow Bear Films have closed a deal for the book, I hear, with Dani Shapiro set to adapt and also produce. Miller will serve as EP.
Released by Harper last September in hardcover with the paperback version hitting store shelves today, Monogamy follows golden couple, Graham and Annie, who remain effortlessly devoted to one another after nearly 30 years of marriage. Graham is a bookseller, a big, gregarious man with large appetites—curious, eager to please, a lover of life, and the convivial host of frequent, lively parties at his and Annie’s comfortable house in Cambridge. Annie, more reserved and introspective, is a photographer. When Graham suddenly dies—this man whose enormous presence has seemed to dominate their lives together—Annie is lost. What...

Dani Shapiro’s New York Times-bestselling memoir “Inheritance” is getting a movie adaptation at Killer Films with Cami Delavigne on board to write the script, Variety has learned exclusively.
The memoir, titled “Inheritance: A Memoir of Genealogy, Paternity, and Love,” centers on Shapiro’s discovery, after taking a commercial DNA test on a whim, that the man she’d known her whole life as her father was not biologically related to her. Shapiro goes on to uncover the truth about her identity, which had been kept from her for more than 50 years.
“Inheritance” will be produced by Pamela Koffler and Killer Films. Shapiro will executive produce along with Beverly Rogers.
Killer Films’ producing credits include the Oscar-nominated films “Still Alice,” “Carol,” “Boys Don’t Cry” and “Far From Heaven.” TV credits include the HBO miniseries “Mildred Pierce,” featuring Kate Winslet and Guy Pearce, which won five Emmys.
Shapiro also wrote the memoirs “Hourglass,...

In the same trip to the library as my last post, I picked up The Other Woman, a breezy-read anthology of 21 essays that explore various sides of non-monogamous relationships from a female perspective. Some of America's top writers candidly discuss Jezebels, Loreleis, bitches, vixens, and home-wreckers. The essays explore deeply personal experiences, from heart-wrenching anguish to light-hearted humor to full-throttled rage, in order to show that, in the end, neither the mistress nor the wife is entirely responsible or free from blame in the destruction of a relationship.
Every "other woman" is enticingly multi-faceted: mistress, wife, girlfriend, lover, daughter, mother, co-worker, neighbor, escape, confidante. Each essay sheds a glimmer of perceptive, and often sensible, recognition of the complexity of love and devotion.
Pam Houston's essay "Not Istanbul" illuminates how destructive obsession with an affair
