*spoiler alert. Director: Peter Berg. Writers: Erich Hoeber, Jon Hoeber. Cast: Taylor Kitsch, Brooklyn Decker, Rihanna, Liam Neeson. Hollywood has this fondness for developing what is well known, especially with huge moneymakers, into a movie. From books to comics, the board game world is not often touched. While they have yet to turn "Monopoly" or "Risk" into a viable plot, one particularly fondly played board game made its stamp with the moniker, "You sunk my Battleship!" For this atypical popcorn action-adventure alien-invasion flick, the movie Battleship does not have a lot of originality. The film centers on Alex Hopper (Taylor Kitsch), a slacker-bum who will have to become a hero. He also falls for the Admiral's daughter, Samantha Shane (Brooklyn Decker). When the aliens invade, they are conveniently separated and the two have to work together in order to save the world from this cosmic threat. Watching this movie brings...

New 'Battleship' movie delivered cool action, special effects, drama & more. Universal Pictures released their new action flick "Battleship" into theaters this weekend. I just checked it out,and thought it was very fun to watch as it served up tons of explosive action, drama, and a touch of comedy. The movie stars: Taylor Kitsch, Brooklyn Decker, Alexander Skarsgard, Rihanna, Asano Tadanobu, and Liam Neeson. In the new movie, commander Stone Hopper (Alexander Skarsgard) makes his little brother Alex Hopper (Taylor Kitsch) join the Navy after he gets into way too much trouble, and does nothing with his life. Meanwhile, Nasa discovers an extrasolar planet with conditions similar to Earth. On the chance that it contains intelligent life, Nasa transmits a powerful signal from a communications array in Hawaii, which is boosted by a satellite in orbit to that planet. This action would eventually prove to be a fatal mistake.

Battleship
Starring: Taylor Kitsch, Liam Neeson, Alexander Skarsgard
Directed by Peter Berg
Rated PG-13
Michael Bay’s new film Battleship….err…sorry, Michael Bay didn’t direct Battleship. But you wouldn’t know that from seeing the trailers, or watching the actual movie. The real director, Peter Berg, seems to have a Bay fascination (note to Peter Berg…aim higher dude). Bay himself might even start to wonder if he actually directed this movie. No wait, he wouldn’t think that because he would realize that his movies aren’t as good as Battleship. So did I like Battleship? Do I like staring at a 20 foot screen while bursts of exploding light and sound penetrate my senses? Well, that depends.
In reality, Battleship’s DNA has more in common with Independence Day. Aliens come to earth, want to take over earth (or so is perceived, that wasn’t really explained,...

Battleship
Directed by: Peter Berg
Cast: Taylor Kitsch, Alexander Skarsgard, Brooklyn Decker, Liam Neeson, Rihanna, Hamish Linklater
Running Time: 2 hrs 15 mins
Rating: PG-13
Release Date: May 18, 2012
Plot: A naval lieutenant (Kitsch) must use strategy to defeat invading alien watercraft on the ocean.
Who’S It For?: The articulate fellow who called me a “ferry princess” for my negative Act of Valor review is going to l-o-v-e Battleship; this is the military pride parade that moviegoers have only been peppered up for by Michael Bay’s Transformers films. The only people this movie is bound to offend are those who are “Battleship” purists.
Expectations: It’s no small task to be the latest military-focused Hasbro toy movie of the summer. I was curious to see how big director Berg was going to take this board game adaptation.
Scorecard (0-10)

Funny story: Brooklyn Decker is currently promoting two very, very different movies -- "Battleship" and "What To Expect When You're Expecting." On the day of our interview, Decker was promoting both films. Two points here: (A) I did not know this, and (B) Decker had been mistakenly told that our interview was about "What to Expect." So, yes, my first question was about "Battleship" and her first answer was in reference to "What To Expect." Luckily, we soon figured out the confusion.
In "Battleship," Decker plays the young, pregnant trophy wife of Dennis Quaid.
(Drat, I did it again. Let me start over.)
In "Battleship," Decker plays Samantha Shane, the girlfriend of a young navy lieutenant named Alex Hopper (Taylor Kitsch) -- a man who must save the world from aliens and build up enough courage to ask Samantha's father (Liam Neeson) for her hand in marriage. Here, Decker explains why,...
