Round-faced general purpose actor of the 1940's and 50's, trained at the acting academy of the Deutschen Theater in Berlin and on stage from 1929. Theatrical residencies in Vienna, Zurich and Berlin, notably in classic plays. Appeared in films from 1933, occasionally essaying villainous roles. Seen as Nazi officers in international productions (Decision Before Dawn (1951), The Devil Makes Three (1952)).
