It's been six years since Netflix shelled out 40 million to Chris Rock for the rights to stream two stand-up specials, but we've only seen one, 2018's scathingly self-reflective "Tamborine," thus far. Just when you were worried he might be receding from view (particularly in the aftermath of getting slapped across the face by Will Smith at the 2022 Academy Awards), Netflix has announced that the trailblazing comic is roaring back to become the first artist to perform live on the streaming platform.
According to a press release issued by the company today, Rock will wield his microphone on a special that will stream live in early 2023. According to Robbie Praw, Netflix's Vice President of Stand-Up and Comedy Formats, "Chris Rock is one of the most iconic and important comedic voices of our generation. We're thrilled the entire world will be able to experience a live Chris Rock comedy event and be a part of Netflix history.

Applying to grad school can feel a lot like limbo. Like being stuck in a waiting room, clutching a call number with wingdings on it, praying you dotted all your i’s correctly. You’d be forgiven for thinking your curriculum vitae was being weighed on a scale against the feather of Ma’at, Egyptian deity of minimum Gpa requirements. It feels just about as esoteric.
Divine judgement, like academia, has a bureaucratic bent to it; an adherence to policy and procedure at odds with any human tendency towards sense-making. That’s a particularly humorous metaphor: that complex administrative systems are as inscrutable and baffling as divine ones, that something so nefariously human could be otherworldly. It’s a relatable, “so taxes are like, literally hell, huh?” The joke’s longevity extends at least as far back as Virgil’s Aeneid, where...

With a new NFL season starting up, we take a look at the best fictional quarterbacks in TV and film history.
It's become almost an annual rite of passage to root against Tom Brady. I mean, look at him, the handsome man who spent a pre-Super Bowl press conference a few years ago rambling on about ball preference. I don’t care how old you are, Brady talking about people preferring “old balls” is pretty hilarious. He won his sixth Super Bowl in 2019, the most ever by any NFL player, and continues to give us reason to root against him by being so damn good.
Brady's career seems like it's taken right out of a film script, either a drama about a diabolical ego-maniac so possessed with winning that he’s been creatively cheating for years, or a feel-good-story about a diamond in the rough...
