Berlin (Germany), Feb 2 (Ians) Three first-half goals paved the way for Bayern Munich’s emphatic 4-0 victory over hapless Mainz in the German Cup round of 16 on Wednesday.
The German record champions took the reins from the starting whistle and came to chances through Kingsley Coman and Jamal Musiala in the opening stages.
Bayern’s lively start paid off as the visitors broke the deadlock in the 17th minute when new arrival Joao Cancelo whipped the ball to the far post and Maxim Eric Choupo-Moting tapped home left-footed from a tight angle, reports news agency Xinhua.
Mainz posed no threat in front of the target, while Bayern kept it going as Musiala made it two with a well-placed low shot at the half-hour mark.

Berlin, Jan 26 (Ians) Giovanni Reyna’s late back-to-back winner helped Borussia Dortmund to snatch a last-gasp 2-1 victory over resilient Mainz at the closing of the 17th round.
Dortmund and Mainz traded attacks immediately after kick-off and broke the deadlock with only two minutes played as Edimilson Fernandes’ corner to the near post allowed Lee Jae-sung to nod home the opener for Mainz, reports Xinhua news agency.
The visitors responded well and restored parity moments later as Dortmund’s new arrival Julian Ryerson scored with a deflected shot from inside the box.
The ‘Bvb’ gained momentum but couldn’t extend the lead as Mainz’s goalkeeper Finn Dahmen was equal to the attempts from Youssoufa Moukoko and Karim Adeyemi.
Mainz eventually focussed on its defense and kept Dortmund at bay for the remainder of the first half.

Peter Sarsgaard is set as a series regular opposite Michael Keaton in Dopesick, an eight-episode limited series based on Beth Macy’s bestselling book. Barry Levinson is set to direct the project, which hails from Empire co-creator/exec producer Danny Strong, The Handmaid’s Tale executive producer Warren Littlefield and Touchstone Television.
Written by Strong and slated to premiere in 2021, Dopesick is described as an ambitious, harrowing and compelling look into the epicenter of America’s struggle with opioid addiction. It takes viewers from a distressed Virginia mining community to the hallways of the DEA and to the opulence of “one percenter” Big Pharma Manhattan. The unsparing yet deeply human portraits of the various affected families and their intersecting stories hold up a mirror to where America is right now, while shining a hopeful light on the heroes battling the worst drug epidemic in American history.

David Strathairn to Star Opposite Peter Sarsgaard on CBS All Access True-Crime Drama ‘Interrogation’
David Strathairn will star opposite Peter Sarsgaard on CBS All Access’ upcoming true-crime drama series “Interrogation,” an individual with knowledge of the casting tells TheWrap.
Co-created by Anders Weidemann and John Mankiewicz, “Interrogation” is based on a true story that spanned more than 30 years, in which a young man was charged and convicted of brutally murdering his mother. Each episode is structured around an interrogation taken directly from the real police case files. The first nine episodes of the series will be available to watch in any order, with the conclusive season finale to be released at a later date.
“This non-linear approach to storytelling is closer to how real detectives work, picking their own path through the evidence in a search for the truth,” Weidemann said.

Peter Sarsgaard is a strong contender for an Emmy nomination for Best Movie/Mini Supporting Actor this year for playing arrogant CIA agent Martin Schmidt in Hulu’s fact-based limited series “The Looming Tower.” And this one-time Golden Globe nominee could also contend for Best Movie/Mini Actor for his role in another true story: Netflix’s “Wormwood.” But his candidacy there is unique because “Wormwood” is actually a documentary.
“Wormwood” is helmed by filmmaker Errol Morris, who is best known for his nonfiction films including “Gates of Heaven” (1978), “The Thin Blue Line” (1988), “Mr. Death” (1999) and “The Fog of War” (2003), the last of which won him the Oscar for Best Documentary Feature. In “Wormwood” he investigates the mysterious death of Frank Olson, an Army scientist who died in 1953 in what may have been a CIA-ordered assassination.

Hulu’s The Looming Tower tackles terrorism and the lead up to 9/11 that was 60 years in the making, managing to pack the multifaceted subject into ten episodes. The result is as riveting as the subject matter. Based on the Lawrence Wright book of the same name, one White House insider called it the definitive crash course on Al Qaeda.
Tower co-stars Jeff Daniels as real-life/f-bomb dropping F.B.I agent John O’Neil, and Peter Sarsgaard as “Professor” Martin Schmidt, an amalgamation of C.I.A. agents. Director Craig Zisk was eager to give his writers much credit for the series success.
“Everyone knows how it ends, but most people don’t know how it began,” explained Zisk. “There’s a lot of information and they managed to make it accurate and entertaining.”
What viewers will learn is that it was the inability of the two agencies to communicate and share information that...

“I was in New York on 9/11. I was at West Broadway and Canal Street, and that time will always be a very emotional time to me,” says actor Peter Sarsgaard when discussing his role as CIA analyst Martin Schmidt in the Hulu limited series “The Looming Tower,” which explores the conflicts between the CIA and FBI during the years leading up to the terrorist attack on September 11, 2001. The series is based on the 2006 Pulitzer Prize-winning book of the same name by Lawrence Wright. Watch our exclusive video interview above.
“I actually don’t think this show could have been made [soon after 9/11],” Sarsgaard adds. “I don’t think many of us were ready for self-reflection: thinking about the ways we might have made mistakes … It’s important at some point after we’ve had some time to think about the ways in which we contributed to this happening, which it’s obvious that we did.

There's a haunting moment early on in Hulu's The Looming Tower – just another night in New York City, back in 1998. An FBI Special Agent watches a TV interview with a terrorist practically nobody in America has heard of before, a guy named Osama bin Laden. The interview includes dire threats of attacks on America. The agent, John O'Neill, reacts to this news in the time-honored way: He goes out and gets drunk, at the old-school celebrity hot spot Elaine's. (He's a regular.) On the way out, he yells into...

“The Looming Tower” is built on a stacked deck. Adapted from Lawrence Wright’s non-fiction book, Hulu’s 10-part limited series examines how infighting between the FBI and CIA may have set the path for 9/11. So not only does every member of the audience know how things end for America, but anyone specifically familiar with John O’Neill’s life is all too aware of how his prophetic arc comes to a close.
That kind of prescience can kill a series. It’s far too tempting to overplay your hand (by say, repeatedly cutting to images of the World Trade Center) or underline your point in redundant dialogue or excessive speechifying. If it seems too good, or too dramatically convenient, to be true, the audience will think that it is — even with a true story like this one.
But the key to making this work in scripted television is simply...

There are a significant number of Americans who would love to point the finger at the United States as bearing responsibility for the events of 9/11. This might be as close as they'll ever get.
Based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning book, The Looming Tower follows Osama Bin Laden and Al-Qaeda in the late 1990s as their threat rises.
At the center of The Looming Tower is the rivalry between the FBI and the CIA and their possible culpability for the tragic events due to an inability work together and share information, leaving the U.S. open to an attack that could have been prevented.
Showrunner Dan Futterman and Executive Producer Alex Gibney have put together a limited series that plays more like a documentary than a fictional take on actual events. Given Gibney's documentary prowess, that's no surprise.

Have communications between the (now increased) number of Federal agencies tasked with protecting the United States citizens improved since 9/11/2001?
We sure as hell have to hope they have.
Hulu is bringing to the small screen an adaptation of Lawrence Wright's Pulitzer Prize winning book, "The Looming Tower: Al Qaeda and the Road to 9/11."
The Looming Tower traces the rising threat of Osama Bin Laden and Al-Qaeda in the late 1990s and how the rivalry between the FBI and CIA during that time may have inadvertently set the path for the tragedy of 9/11.
The series follows members of the I-49 Squad in New York and Alec Station in Washington, D.C., the counter-terrorism divisions of the FBI and CIA, respectively, as they travel the world fighting for ownership of information while seemingly working toward the same goal – trying to prevent an imminent attack on U.S. soil.
