The Voice is not the easiest show to recap for a fella like myself, who’s as cozy with snark and bitchery as a Kardashian is with secretly texting her exact whereabouts to the paparazzi. So on what am I supposed to hang my hat now that Season 5 is down to eight vocalists with enough combined talent to fill up an entire major label roster?
Oh sure, I can always find humor in Carson Daly’s attempts to position himself as Coach No. 5 — how I wish I could’ve been in the Sprint Skybox and shouted “Objection! Leading the witness!

No Doubt dropped their first new single and video in almost 10 years today (July 16), and we can hardly settle down here in the MTV Newsroom. To prepare ourselves for their glorious return with "Settle Down," we decided to compile an essential playlist of the five No Doubt songs that should get everyone super excited for their comeback.
"Don’t Speak"
That opening guitar riff is unmistakable. You never skip it on your iPod; you turn it up and scream alongside Gwen as she lays out her heartbreak. Inspired by her break-up from Tony Kanal, "Don’t Speak" was a monster hit, spending months at the top of the charts. Its video was simple yet epic as it told a behind-the-scenes story of the boys in the band's dissatisfaction at the time with Gwen getting all of the attention. "Speak" has grown into a go-to song when that...

The Idol survivor count dropped from eight to seven last night, and you'll be enraged to learn that the remaining septet is... pretty great? Seriously, no one left is awful. And no one is the obvious winner either, so I'm amped for the remainder of the season. Which reminds me: American Idol Is Still Better Than The Voice. Thank you.
But we have a loser to mourn. Was it Hollie Cavanagh? Elise Testone? Jessica Sanchez? Heejun Han again, for my amusement? Nope, it was the most precious lion cub in the grassland. It was...
DeAndre Brackensick
'
Noooooooo.
Legacy: DeAndre was the last competitor in the game with a truly unusual talent -- the hot coo of a Jamaican infant. Yow-ow! He lasted the longest of the Top 12ers who stood no chance of taking home the crown. (Take that, Heejun!) His trademarks included sweetness, shyness, slow-pitch hair tosses, and resembling Leona Lewis.

Last year, Mother Nature brought rain, but this year's gift was sweltering heat at the third annual Brooklyn Music Festival at Floyd Bennett Field in Brooklyn, New York on Independence Day (Sunday, July 4). Early in the day the show featured local artists and classic reggae musicians, including the legendary Marcia Griffiths (also known as the "Queen of Reggae"). She performed many of her original songs, covered a few Bob Marley tracks and then ended with "Electric Boogie," inviting guests on the stage to dance with her. She was followed by Gregory Isaacs, Barrington Levy and Tanya Stephens, each of whom had reggae fans on their feet dancing and singing along to some of their biggest hits.
New York's musical prodigy and hit-making producer Ricky Blaze hit the stage early in the day with his explosive hit "Just You and I" (which borrows Gyptian's "Hold Yuh" riddim) and "Feel Free,...
