When the TV series based on the popular video game franchise Twisted Metal made its premiere on the Peacock streaming service back in July, it quickly became one of Peacock’s top five original series, racking up 400 million viewing minutes in its first weekend and earning the honor of being the streamer’s “most-binged” premiere. Now season 2 is moving full steam ahead, and showrunner Michael Jonathan Smith (who also happens to be a writer on Cobra Kai) has given Syfy Wire an update, saying the writers room has been assembled for season 2 and he feels they’re going to deliver something wild.
Smith is excited to be working with characters like Dollface, Mr. Grimm, and Axel, although working a couple of those into the grounded world established in the first season presents a challenge. As he said, “(Mr. Grimm) is my favorite and I’m excited to capture what the fans are excited about seeing,...

Season one of the video game-inspired series debuted on July 27th and is one of the streaming service’s top three original shows in viewership.
“I have to give a Sweet Tooth-sized thank you to our incredible fans – I read every comment and was so blown away by everyone’s love, support, and rabid enthusiasm for a paper bag. We are beyond thankful we get to continue the story of John Doe, Quiet, and Sweet Tooth as they face off against familiar faces and new grim foes in the long-awaited Twisted Metal tournament. The mixtape is made, and I’m thrilled to get back on the road with our stellar cast and crew,” said writer, executive producer, and showrunner Michael Jonathan Smith.

After a concerning lead-up to the show’s release, Sony‘s Twisted Metal is doing donuts around audience expectations! The car combat-oriented comedy series is Peacock’s “most-binged” comedy premiere, with the average account watching roughly three episodes per sitting, with some opting to knock the entire season out in one glorious shot. The Twisted Metal Peacock premiere is an outstanding sign for Sony’s future adaptations of popular gaming properties.
While NBCUniversal neglected to share the number of people tuning in for Twisted Metal, it stands to share similar success to Bel Air, The Best Man: Final Chapters, Poker Face, and Based on a True Story as one of Peacock’s top five original series. According to Nielsen, a global leader in audience insights, Twisted Metal locked and loaded 400M viewing minutes in the weekend following its July 27 premiere.

Peacock’s bold, bloody adaptation of the PlayStation vehicular combat classic, Twisted Metal, struggles to balance camp with car carnage.
“What do you say, John? Will you drive?”
There’s been a recent run of exceptional video game adaptations between The Last of Us, Castlevania, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, and The Super Mario Bros and Sonic the Hedgehog movies. There’s no longer the same stigma that once accompanied video game series and movies. Streaming services are now taking major swings on video game IPs whether it’s Netflix’s The Witcher, Amazon’s upcoming Tomb Raider series, or Peacock’s Twisted Metal. It wasn’t long ago when a Twisted Metal TV series would have been a ludicrous venture, but it’s now as good an idea as any. Twisted Metal has a dark, absurdist world that’s had decades to develop. There’s easily a strong enough foundation for a weird and memorable limited series.

With its rave reviews, three-month window of cultural supremacy and 24 Emmy nominations, HBO’s The Last of Us gave all subsequent game-to-screen translations an exhilarating new freedom. It’s no longer necessary for an adaptation to bear the weight of an entire genre’s credibility. “Greatness” has been achieved and it’s now fully acceptable for a video game adaptation to simply be “decent.”
Huzzah!
Peacock’s new series based on the venerable and versatile Twisted Metal franchise is — and I mean this generally as a compliment — quite decent. Both as colorful and as deep as a shimmering oil slick on a sweltering stretch of abandoned blacktop, Twisted Metal lacks the budget and ingenuity to consistently live up to the game’s sense of unrelenting mayhem. But its limitations make room for a solid character-based story to develop around stars Anthony Mackie and Stephanie Beatriz.

The "Twisted Metal" video game series doesn't seem like the kind of thing that would work as a live-action TV show, but the folks over at Peacock gave it a shot and the first teaser trailer is here and ... it actually doesn't look bad! In fact, it looks like they're leaning hard into the nostalgia aspect of things, with a focus on the turn of the millennium. That's kind of genius, really, as the game series was at its peak around that era, with "Twisted Metal 4" releasing in 1999 and the seminal "Twisted Metal Black" releasing in 2001, giving an entire generation of kids and teens a love for the rowdy road-rage of these combat car games. I remember playing "Twisted Metal 4" in my friend's basement after school, banging our heads to the heavy metal soundtrack and laughing at the ridiculous characters, and somehow this trailer has captured that exact energy. Dave “Lil Dicky” Burd returns to television with season 3 of his Fxx/Hulu series Dave. This season, Lil Dicky is on tour a quest for love and gets into plenty of genital-joke-filled shenanigans along the way. Featuring an incredibly talented cast and team of creatives behind the scenes who give the storytelling dimension, Dave Season 3 gets a 4.5 star review. Here’s what made the third season of the rapper’s Fxx series excellent.
‘Dave’ Season 3 is excellent | Showbiz Cheat Sheet ‘Dave’ cast reverts back to the basics in season 3
Season 1 of Dave was about Burd’s initial viral success and his quest to achieve long-lasting fame. In season 2, that fame quickly went to the rapper’s head. As a result, fame compromised some of the most important relationships in his life, especially his girlfriend Ally (Taylor Misiak).
Dave Season 3 strikes a balance between the versions of Lil Dicky we saw in the first two seasons.

Ice Cube has said “f*** you” to Hollywood after he allegedly missed out on a 9m (£7.5m) film role for not getting a Covid vaccine.

The report claimed that Sony required all cast member be vaccinated in order to be involved in the film, which was shot in Hawaii.
Ice Cube, 53, has now corroborated these reports, saying he “turned down a movie because I didn’t want to get the motherf***ing jab”.
Speaking on Million Dollaz Worth of Game podcast , he said: “I turned down 9m. I didn’t want to get the jab. F*** that jab. F*** ya’ll for trying to make me get it.”

Last year, it was reported that Ice Cube left “Oh Hell No,” a Sony comedy co-starring Jack Black and directed by “Bad Trip” filmmaker Kitao Sakurai, due to disagreements about Covid vaccinations. On a Monday episode of the “Million Dollaz Worth of Game” podcast, the rapper and actor seemingly confirmed these reports when he discussed leaving a 9 million film role due to his refusal to get a Covid shot.
“I turned down a movie because I didn’t want to get the motherfucking jab,” Ice Cube said on the podcast, though he didn’t name the movie or anyone involved. “I turned down 9 million. I didn’t want get the jab. Fuck that jab. Fuck y’all for trying to make me get it. I don’t know how Hollywood feels about me right now.”

Ice Cube has confirmed that he exited Oh Hell No, a Sony comedy in which he would have starred opposite Jack Black, after refusing to comply with a requirement that he be vaccinated against Covid-19.
“I turned down a movie because I didn’t want to get the motherf-cking jab. I turned down 9 million because I didn’t want to get the jab,” he said during an episode of the podcast Million Dollaz Worth of Game published on Monday. “F-ck that jab, and f-ck y’all for trying to make me get it. So, I don’t know how Hollywood feels about me right now.”
Ice Cube then went on to clarify that he didn’t actually “turn down” the acting job and the paycheck accompanying it, instead being forced out of the project when he declined to get vaccinated. “Those motherf-ckers didn’t give it to me because I wouldn’t get the shot.

Stephanie Beatriz is set to star opposite Anthony Mackie in the “Twisted Metal” series currently in the works at Peacock, Variety has learned.
The show was ordered to series at the NBCU streamer back in February. It is an adaptation of the video game series of the same name.
In the half-hour show, Mackie will play John Doe, a motor-mouthed outsider who is offered a chance at a better life, but only if he can successfully deliver a mysterious package across a post-apocalyptic wasteland. With the help of a trigger-happy car thief (Beatriz), he’ll face savage marauders driving vehicles of destruction and other dangers of the open road, including a deranged clown who drives an all too familiar ice cream truck.

The upcoming "Twisted Metal" TV series for Peacock has found a director, according to Deadline. Kitao Sakurai ("The Eric Andre Show") is set to direct and produce more than one episode of the series. "Twisted Metal" is based on the Sony Interactive Entertainment video game series of the same name, which features an annual demolition derby that only leaves one winner alive. I haven't played this game for two reasons: I get vertigo, and there is a clown in it. That said, the game has been around since 1995, so I'm certainly aware of it. I try to be aware of all things with clowns because...

Exclusive: Kitao Sakurai will executive produce and direct multiple episodes of Peacock’s Twisted Metal.
Twisted Metal is a comedic half-hour live-action adaptation of the popular video game from Sony Pictures TV, PlayStation Productions, and Universal Television. Anthony Mackie both stars and executive produces the series.
From Cobra Kai writer Michael Jonathan Smith, Twisted Metal is a high-octane action comedy, based on an original take by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick about a motor-mouthed outsider offered a chance at a better life, but only if he can successfully deliver a mysterious package across a post-apocalyptic wasteland. With the help of a trigger-happy car thief, he’ll face savage marauders driving vehicles of destruction and other dangers of the open road, including a deranged clown who drives an all too familiar ice cream truck.
Mackie plays John Doe, a smart-ass milkman who talks as fast as he drives.
