- His first TV part was on EastEnders (1985) and he got the role when he was spotted at a theatre workshop. He has fast became the show's teenage heart-throb and gets around 10,000 fan letters sent to him every week.

- Will perform in the stage adaptation of "Calendar Girls" at London's Noel Coward Theatre (July-October 2009).
- February 2012 it is announced that Ryder's short film "Act of memory" has been officially selected for the Garden State Film Festival and the Myrtle Beach Film Festival in America. March 2012 see's the prestigious Newport Beach Film Festival in California announce that "Act of memory" is the official selection of a British film for its short film competition.
- Ranked #50 in the 100 Greatest EastEnders (1985) Characters of All Time for his performance as Jamie Mitchell (2010).
- Was due to start filming for Family Affairs (1997) but quit his role after the show was axed and thus broke his long-term deal. (August 2005)

- Has one daughter Marnie (b. July 2020), via fiancée Ella.
