A picture-perfect naval officer, highly decorated principled patriotic and deeply in love with his wife, comes ashore quicker than expected and catches his wife cheating with his best friend.
Since the husband is played by the remarkably evolved Akshay Kumar we are mercifully spared the hysterical aftermath of an inherently melodramatic crime of passion that shook and stirred Mumbai’s beau monde in the year 1959.
That was the celebrated Nanawati case, known to change the way we look at the laws regarding crimes of passion. Rustom plucks the core of the crime, unplugs the theme of infidelity from its original context and plays deviously around with the facts to create a semi-fiction ‘what-if’ scenario where the characters hurl towards what the film’s writers would like to think of as an unexpectedly shocking ending.

They always say that old is gold. But, we all know that Bollywood is a place of contradictions. Without dropping names, let us tell you that there are only a handful of yesteryears stars (esp. heroes) who have managed to age gracefully and accept the fact that they have aged, while the rest of the lot are still struggling to get an inroad in Bollywood, even if it's a blink and miss role... mirroring the magnetic call of Bollywood. The same cannot be said about the heroines, who, even though look their best during their heydays, but cannot arrest themselves from ageing times when they tend to put on weight, certain factors which prevent them from facing the media and cameras. The situation is more or less the same with the yesteryear star actress cum national heartthrob Reena Roy, who won many a heart with her true to life performances...

“To be in love with the idea of being in love” goes a famous quote. Bollywood cinema has only made the concept of this ‘love’ and ‘romance’ a lot more extravagant in its various character relationships and stories. Subhash Ghai, the Showman as he is fondly called, has brought together onscreen couples, who have romanticized this everlasting emotional state of being even more in his films.
From the earliest onscreen jodi’s of Shatrugan Sinha and Reena Roy, Rishi Kapoor and Tina Munim, Anil Kapoor and Madhuri Dixit, Jackie Shroff and Meenakshi Shehsadri to Shahrukh Khan and Mahima Chaudhary, Subhash Ghai has always been fascinated with love and delivered it to the hilt in the stories of these classic films spanning 30 years. This month seems to be a month of heavenly departures in Bollywood. First, it was the ever green Rajesh Khanna, and now its director-screenplay writer B.R. Ishara, who passed today morning, as he was suffering from tuberculosis and was undergoing treatment at Criti Care Hospital, Mumbai. Readers may recall that he had suffered a major paralytic attack during a Directors' Association meeting last year.
The late Ishara launched Parveen Babi and cricketer Salim Durrani in his film Charitra. Not just that, he is also known to be the man who gave breaks to today's heavyweights like Danny Denzongpa, Reena Roy, Shatrughan Sinha, Raj Kiran, Raza Murad… to name a few. He is survived by his former actress wife Rehana Sultan.
Amitabh Bachchan, who had worked with him in Ek Nazar, tweeted, "The well known writer director Br Ishara passed away early this morning. Brought in fresh style subject for films.
