The latest entry to the YouTube Red catalog is a series that is colorful in terms of both its visuals and its script. Paranormal Action Squad, an animated program produced by 3BlackDot and Pick Axe that features the voices of YouTube stars SeaNanners, Mr_Sark, and Vanoss, is now available through YouTube’s $9.99-per-month subscription service.
Paranormal Action Squad follows its three protagonists as they do battle with creatures of the night, hellish beasts, and other supernatural entities. When the show was first announced, Mr_Sark warned potential viewers that those fantastic adventures would be punctuated with “off-color humor,” and in a new trailer, we can see exactly what he means. With its comic violence, body gags, and interspecies relations, Paranormal Action Squad takes its cues from other adult animation series like Venture Bros., Archer, and Rick and Morty. In its first year, YouTube Red launched 16 live-action programs, most of which are led by members of the YouTube community. Now, for the first time, a Red original is getting animated. Gamers Vanoss, SeaNanners, and Mr_Sark, all of whom have millions of subscribers on the world’s top video site, are the creators and principal voice actors for Paranormal Action Squad, an animated comedy coming to YouTube Red on November 16th.
Paranormal Action Squad will join several other digital-native comedies by poking fun at ghost hunters. SeaNanners and Mr_Sark will voice the show’s two main paranormal investigators, with Vanoss tagging along as their oddball, owl-headed neighbor. Paranormal Action Squad is helmed by Michael Rowe, who is best-known for writing episodes of Family Guy and Futurama, and the show will share the same sort of raunchy, fast-paced sensibilities preferred by TV’s crop of “adult animation” comedies.

The inclusion of Superman on Supergirl is a giant step for The CW's Dctv Universe. However, this raises quite a few questions given the previous assertion that Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman were off limits. Could we soon have TV versions of the entire DC Comics' Trinity? But what of the recent moves to kill off Deadshot (Michael Rowe), Amanda Waller (Cynthia Addai-Robinson) and the entire Suicide Squad so as not to conflict with David Ayer's film? There's still lots of mystery surrounding just how Supergirl will utilize the Man of Steel but for now, Hoechlin is just basking in the (solar) glow. So happy for my bud @tylerl_hoechlin !!! Ur mom kinda told me b4 u did lol. We already knew u were Superman in real life, now it's real!

If all the good guys are evil over on Earth-2, does that mean that all the bad guys are heroes? Is there are a version of Manu Bennett's Deathstroke that saves cats from trees and pulls people from burning buildings? Likewise, is there a version of Malcolm Merlyn that's actually protecting Star City instead of trying to destroy it? We saw a version of this with Michael Rowe's Floyd Lawton, who was a Central City police officer on Earth-2. Perhaps the key to defeating Zoom will be gathering the heroic versions of the Rogues? So many questions but with only two episodes, we'll probably not have a lot of answers, at least not this season. Update: 2nd Clip added via The CW. The Young Talents Forum and three scholarships awarded the Vancouver Film School, will be some of the highlights of the second edition of the Flicc Latin American Audiovisual Market, which will take place from November 3-6 at the University of the Cloister of Sor Juana in Mexico City.
Flicc's director, Sofia Llorente, who created spaces for the presentation of new projects such as the Youth Forum Talent, said: "We hope that the meetings with producers and distributors are even more enriching, and that they have time to work on financing or partnerships for their projects. "
In turn, the coordinator of the forum, Alejandro Silveira, said that "this is a window that is opened within the Flicc, to which we invited 17 universities, eight from Mexico and nine in Latin American which, following a call for submissions, will come to Mexico City from November 3-8. There will be workshops and lectures about the industry and the Latin American market. "
Llorente also announced the first installment of a residency program titled Pueblo Magico (Magical Town), which will be held in Tepoztlan and will feature celebrated film director, scriptwriter and Spanish producer Fernando Trueba.
"It is a pioneering project, I think it will be very useful for young people to have the opportunity to be heard and contact professionals in the industry," he said.
For three weeks four Mexican filmmakers and four foreign will spend time in Tepoztlan to develop projects as par of the residency program, "the idea is for the artists to live there and develop their films viscerally," said director Flavio Florencio whose film "Made in Bangkok" had its U.S. premiere during Ficg in La last August.
During this residency program, including the lecture open to the public by Fernando Trueba, there will be workshops, such as one on low-budget film, by director Michael Rowe, among other activities.
With the goal of bringing industry professionals to interact with young talents, Flicc conduct activities as "La Fabrique des Cinémas du Monde", with the presence of Gabrielle Beroff, speaking about the Institut Français, which seeks to select, prepare and support filmmakers from various countries to attend the Marché Du Film at the Cannes Film Festival.
Workshops, such as one on film criticism supported by Mexico's Imcine will also be part of the event. "Cinema is an artistic endeavor, but underneath has this industry component, which is less glamorous but allows it to develop as profession, allowing films to be made, completed, sold and distributed to reach the public. Few festivals have an industry section, that is why this event is important as a meeting point for professionals from Mexico and other Latin American countries, to have dialogue with Europe and countries like Canada," said José Miguel Alvarez, deputy director of international events.
The call for submissions to take part in the programs opened on September 15 and will have the support of the Vancouver Film School, which will offer three partial scholarships.
"One of them is the film production program, which will include a10, 0000 Canadian dollars grant, the other program focuses on digital design for visual media, for which we will give the selected participant 15, 000 Canadian dollars and finally there is one on video game programming for the web and mobile devices, which includes 20, 000 Canadian dollars," said the coordinator of the admissions office of that institution, Lizbeth Araujo.

The sleety cinematography and heavy realism make for a vivid but isolating depiction of flailing lovers butting heads in Michael Rowe’s new film
Writer/director and former Cannes Caméra d’Or winner Michael Rowe’s new film, Early Winter, a Canadian-Australian co-production set in Quebec, uses cold weather as a metaphor for emotional isolation, and explores the dying days of a flailing marriage. How the film opens – with an unconventionally framed, single-shot sex scene – is a strong indication of what will follow: a slice-of-life drama told with long stationary takes and an achingly slow and serious feel.
When David (Paul Doucet) encourages his wife Mandy (Suzanne Clément) to watch an old TV show like Friends because “at least it’s funny”, he sounds almost sorrowful, his crumpled, deflated presence suggesting the kind of guy who doesn’t laugh a lot. David works as a janitor at a retirement village...

Telefilm Canada has confirmed its financial support of nearly $13 million of Canadian tax payers' money towards the production of nine English-language feature films through the 'Canada Feature Film Fund', although there doesn't seem to be anything culturally 'Canadian' about most of their selections, other than the crews that will be working on them.
Among the films receiving money include a psycho horror with a demonic 'Santa Claus', a bio pic about a former Queen of Sweden, the 'relationship' between 'James Dean' and a photographer, a thriller involving a Satanic child abuse sex ring, and an inflatable Sex Doll drug smuggling story:
The films are "After the Ball" (Sean Garrity), "A Christmas Horror Story" (Steven Hoban, Grant Harvey, Brett Sullivan), "Aloft" (Claudia Llosa), "A Worthy Companion" (Jason Sanchez, Carlos Sanchez), "Life" (Anton Corbijn), "Regression" (Alejandro Amenabar), "Rest Home" (Michael Rowe), "The Girl King" (Mika Kaurismäki) and "Zoom" (Pedro Morelli...

Netflix's critical hit "Orange Is the New Black" picked up four nominations for the 2014 Writers Guild Awards -- where it's entered as a comedy series.
The show (and its cast) is entered in the drama field for some other upcoming awards shows, including the Golden Globes and the Screen Actors Guild Awards. It's a bit of a tweener show, mixing both comedy and drama, but as there are no "dramedy" awards anywhere, it's a comedy for writing purposes.
Other multiple nominees for the WGA Awards include "Breaking Bad," "Modern Family," "30 Rock," "Masters of Sex," "The Simpsons" and another Netflix series, "House of Cards."
The full list of series nominees is below. You can go here to see all the WGA TV and radio nominees, including those for news and children's programming. The awards are scheduled for Feb. 1.

While "Oblivion" and "Tron: Legacy" director Joesph Kosinski hasn't yet latched on to his next project yet, he's got some choices. He's long been attached to "The Black Hole" remake along with a 'Tron' sequel, while this summer he got nabbed for "The Twilight Zone" and has a sci-fi series brewing at AMC too. And now another gig has landed on his desk. Media Rights Capital, the bank accounts behind "Elysium" and "House Of Cards" among others, has nabbed a spec for a "grounded action thriller" for Kosinski to direct. The story, which is being kept secret for now, came from the brain of Kosinski, with Chris Cantwell and Chris Rogers (the upcoming AMC series "Hell & Catch Fire") turning it into a script. And that's it. So just add it to the To Do pile for Kosinski, and presumably at some point down the line he'll get to it. [Deadline] Meanwhile,...
