It might seem like every Disney movie that has come out in the last few years has quickly been given a sequel, but that hasn't always been the case. For many years, sequels were few and far between, and in the '90s, they often went straight to video.
Disney is just one of many production companies to add more and more sequels -- not all of them good -- extending the life of the stories they tell in some of their most iconic films. While some audience members worry if a sequel can ever live up to the hype of the original film, plenty of viewers know that sometimes those sequels can blow right past their predecessor and on to greatness.

Remember "The Full Monty," friends? The British comedy from director Peter Cattaneo and "Slumdog Millionaire" writer Simon Beaufoy earned critical acclaim across the board for its funny and charming story about six unemployed men, including four former steel workers, who decide to form a male striptease act in order to get through some tough times. The film went on to land Academy Award nominations for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, and Best Original Musical or Comedy Score, even though it only won the latter.
Now, "The Full Monty" will have a chance at winning a whole new slate of awards because it's getting a sequel TV series at FX (on Hulu) with original cast members Robert Carlyle, Mark Addy, Lesley Sharp, Hugo Speer, Paul Barber, Steve Huison, Wim Snape, and Tom Wilkinson all reprising their roles from the movie. It's been 25 years since they bared it all, so...

We’re getting a first look at FX’s The Full Monty, the eight-part follow-up to the BAFTA-winning movie. FX has released some of the first images from the series that will premiere in June (date Tba) and stream exclusively in the U.S. on Hulu.
Set 25 years after the film, the eight-episode series will follow the same band of brothers as they navigate the post-industrial city of Sheffield and society’s crumbling healthcare, education, and employment sectors. The comedy-drama will uncover what happened to the gang after they put their kit back on, exploring their brighter, sillier and more desperate moments. It will also highlight how the fiercely funny world of these working-class heroes – still residing in Sheffield – has changed in the intervening decades.
The original movie’s screenwriter Simon Beaufoy (Slumdog Millionaire) returns, along with co-writer Alice Nutter (Accused), and Uberto Pasolini (Nowhere Special) also coming back as executive producer.

The Perfectionists is filled with a stellar cast, but there is one star who is truly out of this world. While Ava is played by Disney Channel star Sofia Carson, the actor who plays her dad, Phillip Rhys, is also a Disney Channel alum. Back in the 21st century 1999, the English actor played Proto Zoa in Zenon! Yep, he was the blond lead singer of Microbe who brought us the futuristic pop hit "Supernova Girl." Is your heart going boom, boom yet?
Of course, Zenon and Zenon: The Zequel aren't the only projects the actor is known for. He also starred on 24, Nip/Tuck, Survivors, and Nightflyers, and made guest appearances on Glee and Doctor Who. Hopefully we'll be seeing more of him on The Perfectionists! In the meantime, relive that iconic performance ahead!

Written and executive produced by Jeff Buhler, Nightflyers follows eight maverick scientists and a powerful telepath who embark on an expedition to the edge of our solar system aboard The Nightflyer – a ship with a small tightknit crew and a reclusive captain — in the hope of making contact with alien life. But when…...

Syfy is adapting George R.R. Martin’s novella and 1987 movie, Nightflyers, as a TV series. And it's getting an ambitious release strategy.
"Nightflyers is a haunted house story on a starship. It's Psycho in space." - George R.R. Martin
Nightflyers stands as one of George R.R. Martin’s more intriguing pre-Game of Thrones space science-fiction offerings, starting as a 1980 novella, eventually inspiring a schlocky limited-release 1987 film adaptation. However, it appears that the Literary God of Death’s old property is about to be reincarnated as a television series over at Syfy.
Last year, the genre-aimed NBCU cable outlet ordered a pilot for Nightflyers, which has since expanded into a series pickup (Netflix has first run rights outside the U.S.). Additionally, Nightflyers recently received a bountiful boon of €850,000 from the Irish Film Board and will soon begin filming at Limerick’s Troy Studios.

Chicago – Some movies don’t just use cliches, they practically bathe in them, finding little other way to tell their story. Despite yet another strong performance from Oscar winner Melissa Leo (“The Fighter”), “The Space Between,” being broadcast uncut on the tenth anniversary of 9/11 this Sunday, is such a movie. She keeps it interesting but the film takes a potentially resonant story and deflates it with paper-thin storytelling.
TV Rating: 1.5/5.0
Given the amount of film product produced in the last ten years and our cultural need to comment on real-life events with a 24-hour news cycle, there have actually been surprisingly few dramatic tales spun around the events of 9/11/01. Perhaps the day is still too raw to be effectively examined in a fictional way, but the problem with “The Space Between” is how little it actually attempts to do so. It feels nearly exploitative in its use of the day...

USA announced it has purchased the rights to The Space Between written and directed by Travis Fine stars Melissa Leo (The Fighter).
The film stars Leo as a flight attendant "who forms a bond with a 10-year-old Pakistani-American boy traveling by himself on 9/11." The supporting cast includes, AnnaSophia Robb, Phillip Rhys, Anthony Keyvan and Brad William Henke.
This marks the first festival acquisition for USA. The movie premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival. The Space Between will air on Sept. 11, 2011, to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the World Trade Center attacks.
The movie looks good and I am glad that it will be aired. It is a shame that it will not make it to the big screen. I am guessing that USA will likely release the film in DVD/Blu-ray.

I left my cell phone at home the other day by accident. It took only twenty minutes before I started to panic and feel completely disconnected from the world around me. We, as a society, have become entirely dependent on technology to help us continue to survive. We have forgotten the basics that got us to where we are now.
Survivors, a remake of the popular 70s post-apocalyptic British television series, shows us what might happen if we were forced back to square one: A world without electricity, food production, or water. As the title suggests, the show follows a group of people who have managed to survive a worldwide influenza pandemic that has wiped out most of humanity. My review of the first two seasons (and, due to its recent cancellation, the entire series) of BBC’s Survivors on DVD after the jump:

A remake of the original Survivors series, this TV show debuted in November 2008. It was created by BAFTA Award-winner Adrian Hodges (Primeval) and was inspired by the original Terry Nation novel.
This version of Survivors is set in the present day and focuses on a group of people who have survived viral pandemic known as the Eurpoean Flu. With the rest of the world's population dead, these individuals must learn to survive and work together without the structure and security of an organized society and law and order.
Performers in this post-apocalyptic series include Julie Graham, Phillip Rhys, Zoe Tapper, Shaun Dingwall, Paterson Joseph, Freema Agyeman, Chahak Patel, Nikki Amuka-bird and Max Beesley.
The last episode of Survivors aired in February and it was subsequently announced that the series was cancelled, leaving the TV show with a cliffhanger...

Hold your tongues if you live in the UK and have already seen this season, but the Us is just now getting the second season of the drama, “Survivors”. This show follows survivors of a deadly flu-like plague as they try to establish a society. The premiere of season two begins tonight on BBC America.
The first season of the show was about gathering the survivors together and exploring what’s left of their world. This season opens with the survivors in conflict with remains of the old government and those trying to establish a new regime.
Check out what the show is about:
Set in the present day, Survivors focuses on the world in the aftermath of a virulent disease that scoured the planet, wiping out 99% of the human race. Only a lonely few are left to start over in a devastated world where everything that was once safe...

What if the end of the world came and you survived it? The new BBC America series Survivors explores just that idea. While it’s being presented as pure sci-fi, near future drama, the elements of horror are inescapable. The series is well acted by players who are relative unknowns outside of the UK (see full series one cast list below). A nod must be given to those who have deftly casted the core group which seems to have just the right amount of tense expectancy about the world as it now is.
The first four hours of the series have only begun to explore the range of emotions any survivor would experience. Imagine the slow realization of the growing deaths around you. In this instance, a rouge virus whose mortality rate is something close to 99% has come for humanity. At least it wasn’t a terror attack or asteroid from space.

Upcoming episodes of the show's second series will see Rhys's character Al fall for Robyn Addison's Sarah, a story which Rhys now backs. Survivors star Phillip Rhys has said that he understands the producer's decision to write one of the cast out of the show. Late last year, Adrian Hodges teased that a main character would be killed off before the end of series two. Speaking exclusively to Digital Spy, Rhys - Al Sadiq on the apocalyptic drama - said that the story was necessary "for the sake of the show". "I understood it," he said. "For the sake of the show, it worked. Any of us can be sacrificed and we get that. "We didn't know (more)...

BBC America has announced the launch date for post-apocalyptic drama series Survivors. The much-delayed Survivors, which is an adaptation of the cult classic 1970s series (itself based on Terry Nation's novel), will have its Us premiere on Saturday, February 13th at 8 pm Et/Pt, before shifting to its regular timeslot at 9 pm Et/Pt the following week. The series tracks the adventures of a group of people who survive a global viral holocaust that wipes out 99 percent of the human race's population and who struggle to stay alive in the face of unspeakable odds following this global catastrophe. In the official scheduling announcement, BBC America refers to the "twelve-episode season" of Survivors, which is a sign that the digital cabler intend to air the first two UK seasons of Survivors back-to-back. Season One, which aired in the UK in 2008, was comprised of six episodes and the second season of...
