Very sad news today.
Winston Rekert lost his battle with cancer yesterday. He was 63.
He played Obal Ferras in Caprica ("Unvanquished"). Before that, he appeared in a couple of episodes of Battlestar Galactica as the priest who swore in Baltar ("Lay Down Your Burdens, Pt. 2") and Roslin ("Collaborators") as presidents.
He is best known for starring in the Canadian shows Adderly (1986-87) and Neon Rider (1989-94), and for his theatre work in Vancouver.
Earlier this year, he received the Sam Payne Lifetime Achievement Award for his "accumulative outstanding body of work in the industry."
The Vancouver Sun has a great article about his life and work.
And this is from The Province:
Rekert, 63, is best known as the star of the B.C.-filmed Neon Rider TV series in the late 1980s and 1990s, for which he also did some writing, directing and producing. The Vancouver actor won Gemini awards...

When I first saw that title and this cover, I thought, Ugh, what kind of half-assed excuse for a comedic justification could this movie have possibly come up with to explain why anyone would take their mother on their honeymoon? But it’s even worse than that: When Shannon (Virginia Williams, How I Met Your Mother) is dumped at the altar, her single mother, Marla (Shelley Long, Cheers), suggests they take the planned honeymoon to a remote island resort together. Marla, a publisher of a top magazine, tells Shannon that the trip to paradise will make their relationship stronger, but she has ulterior motives: to land an interview with the resort’s owner, Nick Tercel (Jack Scalia), a former astronaut who was involved in a scandal several years earlier and fled to the island. When Marla finally meets Nick and conducts the interview without his knowledge, she finds herself falling for him.

“The Ultimate Drug To Heal The Ultimate Pain”
From television clips, we see that Graystone Industries is now in the hands of Tomas Vergis and Agent Durham is hot on the case of the S.T.O. car bomb. We are still in the dark of Amanda Graystone’s fate, but it doesn’t look good when seeing a disheveled Daniel Graystone, who has clearly hit rock bottom.
Graystone meets with the Ha’la’tha’ and the Guatrau with the aide of Joseph and Sam Adama. He offers the crime boss the “cure for human grief”, which is basically the ability of recreating dead loved ones in the V-World,...

Foy first told us about Jeffery Lando's House of Bones, in which the lovely Charisma Carpenter plays a ghost hunter, back in December of 2008, and finally this weekend it debuts on Syfy. In addition, the indie filmmaker who hails from Vancouver has two other Canadian premieres happening within the next few days.
But first here's what Lando has to say about House of Bones:
"[It's] a fun horror film where the cast and crew of a Ghost Hunter reality show get trapped in a house that really Is haunted. This is the movie I directed in Louisiana a year ago with a gang of wildmen genre filmmakers from La. It begins airing this Saturday (the 16th) at 9 Pm (8 Central)." Here's a sneak peek courtesy of Syfy:
Next, screenwriter Kevin Mosley set up a benefit screening of Lando's feature debut, Savage Island (starring Don S. Davis, Winston Rekert, Brendan Beiser, Kristina Copeland), for this coming Tuesday,...
