"We came here to fix this, right? We're not going to leave until we do." Vertical Entertainment has released an official trailer for a film titled Welcome Home, a dangerous romantic thriller of sorts from filmmaker George Ratliff. The film stars Aaron Paul and Emily Ratajkowski as a couple who decide to take a trip to the Italian countryside to work on their relationship. They book a home using a website called "Welcome Home". Once they arrive, an encounter with a neighbor begins to disrupt their relationship even more. The cast also includes Riccardo Scamarcio as Federico, plus Katy Louise Saunders, Alice Bellagamba, and Francesco Acquaroli. This looks like it has some seriously creepy twists and turns. It may start as a struggling romance, but turns into something very freaky and unsettling. The Hollywood Reporter brings word tonight that Breaking Bad alum Aaron Paul and Emily Ratajkowski have both signed on to star in Welcome Home, a thriller that’s got George Ratliff behind the camera to direct for Voltage Pictures.
In what sounds like a bit of a generic premise, the film will see the two stars play a couple who “spend a weekend at a vacation rental home in the Italian countryside in an attempt to repair their relationship, but soon become victims of the homeowner’s sinister plans.” With a script by David Levinson, Allan Mandelbaum and Tim and Trevor White are on board to produce the pic, which will head into production this May in Tuscany, with plans to sell the film at Cannes.
While this doesn’t sound like the most original pitch as far as thrillers go, Paul’s involvement certainly bodes well for the project.

Whatever you may have thought of January Jones’s portrayal of The White Queen/Emma Frost in superhero blockbuster X-Men: First Class, there’s no denying the actress’s versatility. Religious hypocrisy and zealotry both make for easy targets in comedy, and Director George Ratliff makes quick work of it all in Salvation Boulevard, his takedown piece on super church ministers which benefits immensely from a characteristically slimy performance by Pierce Brosnan in the role. While I sympathize with his clear loathing for the increasingly common occurrence of overly powerful religious personalities and the impressionable sheep that flock to them, his narrow focus on that agenda blinded him from ever throwing anything genuinely funny into his supposed comedy. While we might smirk at Jennifer Connelly’s unthinking devotion to the corrupt minister, Greg Kinnear’s typically flustered characterization of a man in over his head, or Marisa Tomei as a Grateful Dead acolyte, rarely do any of these things elicit anything more than that.

A great cast wasted in Salvation Boulevard, a misguided and dreary excuse for a comedy that Greg Kinnear, Pierce Brosnan, Jennifer Connely, Marisa Tomei, and Ed Harris all somehow signed up for. Did these fine actors even read the script or was the chance to goof on the hypocrisy of religious evangelicals too good to resist? Hell House was director George Ratliff’s 2001 documentary about a Texas church’s Halloween spook house that featured, instead of ghosts and goblins, suicide, date rape, incest, and botched abortions. For his narrative feature debut, Ratliff again targets Christians, a broad subject but a tricky one for satire especially when painted with an equally broad brush, and he fails miserably. Those anticipating a biting and funny satire of the God business need to look elsewhere.

Crazy Christians and pot-smoking Deadheads clash in George Ratliff’s sometimes funny but mostly uneven religious satire, “Salvation Boulevard.” While they inspire fear and terror at the polls, Evangelicals have inspired laughs in movies like “Easy A” and “Saved!” but mocking extremists is about as easy as finding a needle in a needlestack. George Ratliff’s flip adaptation of Larry Beinhart’s mystery-thriller Salvation Boulevard is a misfire of the first order, starting with the way writer-director Ratliff and co-writer Doug Max Stone turn what could’ve been a provocative, gripping story into an over-the-top yukfest. Framed as a “satire” set in the milieu of upper-middle-class suburban mega-churches, Salvation Boulevard doesn’t seem to have any higher aspiration than illustrating how religious people can be hypocrites. If runaway success carries anything with it, it's the satire and criticism that almost preternaturally follow. So with mega-churches and religious communities achieving sizes and followings that were heretofore unheard of (see anything relating to Joel Osteen), it only makes sense that some sort of movie satire would soon follow. But what's interesting about George Ratliff's latest, Salvation Boulevard, is that it's hardly an easy-pickings onslaught of making fun of the devout. Rather, it's a zany comedy - less than an out-and-out satire - that centers on a sort of Hitchcock-esque wrong man scenario that unfolds in the midst of one such religious community. To Ratliff's credit, the film doesn't seem to be directly making fun of nonbelievers, which would have been the easy pitfall for this sort of material. Our protagonist, Carl (Greg Kinnear), is a born-again Christian who lives in a planned community centered around the Church of the Third Millennium,...

The cast includes Pierce Brosnan, Ed Harris, Jim Gaffigan,Marisa Tomei and Jennifer Connelly in the modern comedy based on the book of the same title by Larry Beinhart (Wag the Dog) "about Pastor Dan Day, a charismatic evangelical preacher (Pierce Brosnan) who has captivated a small western American town with his charm – and the promise of a sweet real estate development."
Here's an overview of the film:
Carl (Kinnear) "is a former follower – not of Christ, but of the Grateful Dead – who has since become "found" in Dan's Evangelical community, serving as one of the preacher's great examples of spiritual and moral transformation. But Carl's new belief system is turned upside down when he witnesses a sinful act that Pastor Dan's doughy henchman (Jim Gaffigan) aims to cover up.

Salvation Boulevard earns a tracking point on my radar primarily because I admire director George Ratliff for giving us Joshua in 2007 — one of the creepiest Bad Seed movies in years.

Director George Ratliff's adaptation of Salvation Boulevard was a reported crowd favorite when it debuted at the Sundance Film Festival in January. IFC Pictures and Sony soon picked up the movie's distribution rights and have finally released a trailer for the movie.
Based on the novel by Larry Beinhart (Wag the Dog), Salvation Boulevard stars a high profile cast that includes Pierce Brosnan, Jennifer Connelly, Greg Kinnear and Ed Harris. A religious satire, Salvation Boulevard comes at a time when the proposed Rapture has been moved to October 21, so the July release date allows the movie to arrive with more than enough time before the (rescheduled) end.

Pierce Brosnan, Greg Kinnear and Ed Harris in Salvation Boulevard
Photo: IFC Films I will actually be seeing the upcoming comedy/thriller Salvation Boulevard tomorrow afternoon in advance of its July 15 release from IFC as part of the Seattle International Film Festival.
The flick is co-written and directed by George Ratliff (Joshua) based on the book of the same name by Larry Beinhart ("Wag the Dog"), and centers on a former Deadhead turned born-again Christian (Greg Kinnear) who finds himself on the run from fundamentalist members of his mega-church who will do anything to protect their larger-than-life pastor. Starring alongside Kinnear the film is loaded with names including Marisa Tomei, Jennifer Connelly, Pierce Brosnan, Ed Harris, Jim Gaffigan and Isabelle Fuhrman.
The trailer for the flick just debuted and I've added it directly below. Could be fun...

"Carl may, or may not, be demonically possessed." IFC Films has debuted the official trailer for a religious indie comedy called Salvation Boulevard that premiered at Sundance and stars quite a doozy of a cast. Directed by George Ratliff, the film stars Greg Kinnear as a Christian who sees his pastor, played by Pierce Brosnan, kill a guy and must go on the run. Sounds fun and honestly, this is a great trailer, it really sells it almost like a religious Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. The cast also includes: Jennifer Connelly, Marisa Tomei, Ed Harris, Isabelle Fuhrman and Jim Gaffigan. Give it a shot, you might actually enjoy this! Part Saved, part Get Shorty, part out of control game of hot potato, the first trailer for George Ratliff.s Salvation Boulevard just dropped, and it is a frantic back-and-forth between Christians, atheists and a reformed hippy. The Christians are led by Pastor Dan Day (Pierce Brosnan), a charismatic preacher who turned his church into a thriving business. The atheists are led by Dr. Paul Blaylock, a liberal professor who openly opposes the teachings of the Church. And the lonely hippy is Carl Vanderveer (Greg Kinnear), an idiot who doubles as the perfect patsy. The thing I love about this trailer is how quickly it establishes its characters. personalities. Within thirty seconds, we have a very good sense of the three men at the center of the controversy and how each relates to each other. A naysayer may argue that.s easy to do with a triumvirate of such divergent...

I mean, just look at that poster below; it at least matches the mess of the trailer, which in turn, matches what is reportedly a debacle of a film. I thankfully skipped Salvation Boulevard at Sundance, but I’ve heard nothing but bad things about George Ratliff‘s religious comedy. It’s interesting to see such a misfire with the strong cast that includes Pierce Brosnan, Ed Harris, Jim Gaffigan, Marisa Tomei and Jennifer Connelly. Check out the trailer below via Yahoo.

Here is a trailer for Salvation Boulevard directed by George Ratliff (Joshua, Hell House). The film was able to get distribution despite poor reviews at Sundance this year. You can read Ben Ps's review here. The cast includes Pierce Brosnan, Ed Harris, Jim Gaffigan,Marisa Tomei and Jennifer Connelly. This cast may be good, but the film looks really boring to me based on the trailer.

Salvation Boulevard is a film that found distribution at Sundance likely thanks to a high-power cast, because the reviews were middling and occasionally dismal. The roster for this comedy that skewers personality run amok and the power of fringe religious organizations is pretty serious: Pierce Brosnan, Ed Harris, Jim Gaffigan, Marisa Tomei and Jennifer Connelly. Reading reviews, which largely took the film to task for being unfunny, I wasn't certain what to expect from the film. But a trailer is out in the wild now, and it makes clear that a lot of manic energy went into this movie. It also suggests that despite the wild mugging of actors who are usually more controlled (Jennifer Connelly, for example) the picture might be more noise and fury than anything else. (Which is to say, it might just be crap.) Too bad, because the cast has so much promise. Check out the trailer after the break.
