Noor
Starring Sonakshi Sinha, Purab Kohli, Kannan Gill, M K Raina, Smita Tambe

Honestly, the conscience has become a huge liability in these times. As a journalist with a good three decades of experience I still have problem deciding where to draw the line between professionalism and ethics.
Though I couldn’t relate to her endless boozing and snoozing, Noor Roy Choudhary as played by Sonakshi Sinha , is someone I’ve known in passing. And that’s I would keep her if I met her. At a safe distance.
Noor is not one of the best films on journalistic ethics. It doesn’t do to the contemporary Mumbai media world what the Paul Newman-Sally Field starrer Absence Of Malice did 30 years ago. It pricks at the conscience in a rather undemanding way. Noor takes sly and slender satirical swipes at sensationalism in journalism, more...

Rakesh Omprakash Mehra’s Mirzya. After watching a stage performance of Mirza-Sahibhan 35 years ago, Mirzya was born. I had the privilege of watching this film a week in advance. I have avoided all publicity about this film as I didn’t want to go in with any expectations. This is difficult in a way as this is a Rakesh Omprakash Mehra directed film. He is back since the incredibly successful Bhaag Milka Bhaag. I have sat with my thoughts of this film for four days. Normally I don’t. Normally reviews as far as they go are fairly straight forward. This one isn’t. Why? Well there are so many different elements to it and you just need a little bit of time to make your mind up about it.
Let us start with the much talked about music. Shankar Ehsaan and Loy do something different here and it suits Mirzya.

Harshvardhan Kapoor is ready to hit the big screen and his first film is an epic one! Son of Anil Kapoor and brother to Sonam and Rhea, the young man certainly has acting in his blood and he now prepares to show off his talent in Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s Mirzya.
A timeless folktale about star-crossed lovers is uniquely told in two parallel worlds, one real, and one fantastical. Set in modern day Rajasthan, the musical is also played out in the mountains of Ladakh where the Punjabi folktale comes to life. The lovers grapple with forces that seek to keep them apart in both avatars but they discover that even a moment of true love is worth an entire lifetime.
In a wonderful conversation Harvarshdhan Kapoor talked with Stacey about preparing for this dual role, finding his characters and then bringing them both to life onscreen. Plus so much more!

A tale of love, Mirzya, which hits theaters Friday, explores the tragic folktale of Mirza and Sahiban both in the world of folklore and in modern Rajasthan in 2016. The story, presented in a very unique way, weaves in and out of the love of Mirza-Sahiban of the folk tale and the characters of today. This ageless epic is directed by the BAFTA Awards nominee & 3-time National Award recipient Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra and is brought to life in the words of famed poet and lyricist Dadasaheb Phalke recipient and Oscar winner – Gulzar. Introducing Harshvardhan Kapoor and Saiyami Kher, along with Anuj Chaudhary and Anjali Patil, this untold love story of estranged soul mates also stars Om Puri, Art Malik, and K. K. Raina.

From the heartbreaking but brilliant Rang De Basanti, to the wonderful Delhi 6, to the inspiring Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, director Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra has brought Indian cinema some of its greatest films.
With his film Mirzya, he has now turned his focus on the Punjabi folk tale Mirza-Sahiban, but presenting it in a unique way. Interweaving the legendary folklore with a contemporary version, this musical brings out the story of a love that will never die. Joining him in transforming this story is the esteemed writer and poet Gulzar. Adding to the worlds of Mirzya is music by the great Shankar, Ehsaan and Loy.
Mirzya introduces Harshvardhan Kapoor and Saiyami Kher, along with Anuj Chaudhary. Also bringing the story to life are the screen masters, Om Puri, Art Malik, and K. K. Raina.
Some of my absolute favorite interviews to conduct are with directors because they just love talking about their movies.

The next song from Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s poignant tragic love story is out, Teen Gawah Hain Ishq Ke, a moving love song talking about the complete isolation of true love between two soul mates who dared to love.
The film is based on the legend of Mirza-Sahiban, a popular Punjabi folklore. And in recreating this legend, Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s Mirzya has been exquisitely shot in the bleak and desolate terrain of Ladakh and the vibrancy of colourful Rajasthan, which heightens the contrast between the two worlds of folklore and contemporary, yet are interwoven very intricately to bring out the story of a legend that will never die. The eternal love story resonates even today in the modern day world of Rajasthan in 2016, as seen in this song, and is a befitting testimony to two eternal and rebellious lovers.

Jigariyaa trailer was launched by Rohit Shetty. The trailer launch was attended by the director Raj Purohit, writer and producer Vinod Bachchan and lead actors Harshvardhan Deo and Cherry Mardia. In June of 2007, Taran Adarsh wrote in his review for Bhavna Talwar's debut film, "An outstanding film in all respects, this one deserves the highest praise and of course, the highest award." That film was the thought provoking Dharm, which starred the amazing Pankaj Kapoor, as well as Supriya Pathak, Daya Shankar Pandey, Krish Parekh, K.K. Raina and Hrishita Bhatt. Fast forward two years and the film was recently honored with the highest award in India, a National Award - The Nargis Dutt Award for Best Feature Film on National Integration. The citation read: "For powerfully bringing forth the message that humanity is of much greater value than religion. The transformation of an orthodox and superstitious priest is very beautifully depicted." I got the opportunity to talk to director Bhavna Talwar and we had a wonderful conversation. I really wish you could have been on the phone with us...
