As the WGA strike enters its 100th day, a stalemate has emerged between writers and the AMPTP after a new round of negotiations failed to get off the ground last week.
With pickets growing across Hollywood and the rest of the country as the entertainment industry virtually shuts down in the face of the historic double strike, determination hasn’t wavered for many striking writers and actors.
“It’s a high moment — the fact that we’re 100 days … and still people are still showing up and still doing the work,” WGA captain Calvin Starnes told TheWrap.
For Starnes, the highest moment of the strike thus far came from a moment of unity between labor unions as “hot labor summer“ spilled into other industries fighting for similar protections.
“Going down to the Teamsters rally, Ups and hearing so many great union leaders speaking — [Teamsters VP] Lindsay [Dougherty], WGA negotiating committee Chris Keyser — that was really cool,...

The Brady organization against gun violence is calling on Hollywood writers, directors and producers to examine onscreen gun violence and depictions of gun safety, asking the creative community to sign a pledge that’s already garnered more than 200 signatures of such names as Judd Apatow, Shonda Rhimes, Damon Lindelof and Jimmy Kimmel and the writers of Jimmy Kimmel Live!
The pledge, while noting that the “responsibility lies with lax gun laws supported by those politicians more afraid of losing power than saving lives,” acknowledges that “America’s storytellers” have the power to “effect change.”
“Cultural attitudes toward smoking, drunk driving, seatbelts and marriage equality have all evolved due in large part to movies’ and TV’s influence. It’s time to take on gun safety,” the Brady pledge states, and goes on to ask writers, directors and producers to, whenever possible, to:

Exclusive: Netflix has opted not to renew geopolitical espionage thriller Hit & Run, co-created, executive produced and headlined by Fauda’s Lior Raz, for a second season. The news comes a month and a half after the release of Season 1, which ended with a major cliffhanger.
Hit & Run, which also starred Sanaa Lathan, Kaelen Ohm, Moran Rosenblatt and Gregg Henry, was well received by critics and viewers, with 70%+ ratings from both official reviews and audience feedback. But the sprawling drama, whose first season, impacted by the pandemic, filmed in New York and Israel, is expensive.
Because of the Covid-related industry shutdown, the nine-episode Season 1 took three years to produce. It debuted August 6 and broke into Nielsen’s Streaming Top 10 the following week at No. 8. It was the thriller’s only appearance on the overall weekly chart, which other Netflix originals like Outer Banks and Virgin River recently topped.

Hit & Run will not be getting a second season at Netflix.
Despite a major cliffhanger ending, the espionage thriller from Fauda creators Avi Issacharoff and Lior Raz, and co-showrunners Dawn Prestwich and Nicole Yorkin (Judging Amy, The Killing), will be ending its run after one season at the streaming giant, The Hollywood Reporter confirms.
Both sets of co-creators have overall deals at Netflix, which had seemingly made the creative choice of ending the first season on a cliffhanger a safer bet. The first season released in early August and Issacharoff and Raz re-upped their deal the following week.

Amazon has cancelled Z: The Beginning Of Everything, starring Christina Ricci, after the series had previously been greenlit for a season 2.
The initial renewal was a bit of surprise, given the lack of buzz around the first season of the Zelda Fitzgerald series, but it's even more of a surprise when considering that the Z writers' room had already started meeting for season 2 and, according to The Hollywood Reporter, a reported $7 million had already been spent on a second season.

There’s a problem with the first season of “Z: The Beginning of Everything” that is reminiscent of, of all the unexpected things in this world, “Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice.” (Please, give this a chance.)
“Batman v. Superman” is a notable film for how, scene by scene, it is a movie that actively dislikes its characters — from little touches to big choices, its only source of joy seems to be found in tearing down beloved icons into unrecognizable shells of themselves.
“Z” does not have that problem. In fact, it has the opposite dilemma. The Amazon Prime series, created by Nicole Yorkin and Dawn Prestwich, is just a little bit too in love with its leading lady. And while “Bvsdoj’s” antipathy towards its leads sucked all the joy out of the picture, “Z’s” infatuation with Zelda Fitzgerald detracts from its depiction of one of literature’s most fascinating and complicated women.

As it did for feature film scribes in December, the Wgaw today announced the 15 winners of its 2014 Writer Access Project honoring diversity in TV writing. The program first launched in 2009 aiming to help diversify TV writers rooms by highlighting writers with TV staffing experience and bring their scripts to the attention of industry figures. Eligible writers had to submit themselves in one of five categories: minority writers, writers with disabilities, women writers, 55-and-over writers, and gay and lesbian writers. “The intention of the Writer Access Project is very simple. It draws the best, experienced writers who, for whatever reason, have not been able to get their material in front of showrunners and lets their work speak for itself. The focus is put on the one thing that truly matters when hiring a writer: the words he or she puts on the page,” said 2014 Wap Drama judge Glen Mazzara (The Walking Dead...

Despite all the odds and a name that should never bode well, The Killing has managed to claw its way out of the grave for a second time, proving it’s harder to kill than any undead creature. It’s funny, actually. When The Killing was resurrected the first time, I was less than thrilled. But this time I’m kind of excited. Isn’t it strange how things like that can change given enough time?
According to Deadline, Netflix has picked up The Killing in order to give the series a final six episode run on the streaming service. Netflix struck up a deal with AMC when The Killing was cancelled after its second season, offering to split the costs of production in return for becoming the exclusive digital partner for all three seasons. It’s déjà vu again for The Killing, which refuses to live up to its name. The mystery drama, which was cancelled by AMC last year only to be resurrected with a third-season order, is staging another comeback after being cancelled by the network again in September. This time, the series was picked up by Netflix, which was its exclusive digital partner for the first three seasons and still carries them worldwide. Now The Killing will become a Netflix original for a six-episode final installment. The series’ second resurrection is a testament to series producer Fox TV Studios’ tenacious efforts to keep it alive. The Killing‘s stars, Mireille Enos and Joel Kinnaman, are under long-term deals and set to return. Creator/executive producer Veena Sud is assembling a writing team, which is expected to begin work shortly. She will be joined by The Killing veterans, exec producers Dawn Prestwich and Nicole Yorkin,...

Apologies for missing last week due to technical difficulties. As The Killing continues its third season, one thing is very clear: this is a much different show in many ways from its first two seasons. I’ve written in previous reviews how the lack of a fallout story dealing with grief has shifted the dynamic, since the Larsen family was such a huge part of what the show was trying to be in its first two years. I also expressed my reservations with regards do the storyline that has seemed to take its place – the one revolving mainly around the character Bullet and her orphan friends who hang around the slums of Seattle. There's good news for fans of The Killing. The TV show was cancelled by AMC earlier this year but it looks like season three is actually happening.
Though there's been no official word of a pickup, Variety is reporting that showrunner Veene Sud and executive producers Dawn Prestwich and Nicole Yorkin are back in the writers' room, working on the storyline for season three. The deal is still being worked out but apparently things look very good season three is expected to debut in May.
Earlier this month, we reported that Netflix and AMC were working on a deal to resurrect The Killing for a third season -- in a similar way that DirecTV and NBC worked together to keep Friday Night Lights alive.

"The Killing" might get a Season 3. About five months after AMC canceled the low-rated drama, "The Killing" may be revived, according to Variety.
In early November reports surfaced that AMC and Netflix could continue the drama starring Mireille Enos, now Variety reports Veena Sud and executive producers Dawn Prestwich and Nicole Yorkin are back to work on a third season of the drama. The new season will likely premiere in May. Variety reports the Netflix negotiations have not been finalized.
No cast is confirmed, according to Variety.
"The Killing" premiered on AMC in April 2011 with strong ratings -- 2.7 million viewers tuned in to see the start of the "Who killed Rosie Larsen?" mystery. However, the numbers began to slip and after the Season 1 finale failed to answer that question, viewers fled the series in Season 2. The second season kicked off with 1.8 million viewers and the finale dropped to 1.5 million.

It appears that The Killing has been un-canceled. AMC, Fox TV Studios and The Killing developer/executive producer Veena Sud are putting the team back together in anticipation of a formal green light for a third season of the mystery series to air on AMC and Netflix. Dawn Prestwich and Nicole Yorkin, who served as co-executive producers in the first and second season, are expected to return as executive producers, and have started working with Sud on stories for Season 3. Fox TV Studios already has the cast — including breakout stars Mireille Enos and Joel Kinnaman — locked in for Season 3, which made a resurrection of the series, cancelled by AMC in July, an easier proposition. The show has been talking to key behind-the-scene auspices, including Prestwich and Yorkin, to return, as Season 3 is eying a February production start. 2012 Writers Guild Award Nominations
The 2012 Writers Guild Award nominations were announced yesterday and as with the Emmys cable led the drama categories. Previous nominees Boardwalk Empire and Breaking Bad and new series Homeland all racked up 3 nominations in the drama field. The Good Wife is the only network drama featuring in the Drama Series category, with Dexter getting the other slot and sadly Friday Night Lights missed out.
If you're wondering where Mad Men is; the field of eligibility for these awards runs from December, 1 2010 until November 30, 2011. This makes the Writers Guild Awards similar to the Golden Globes rather than the Emmys regarding the submission time frame. The last new episode of Mad Men aired in October 2010 so it can't be included; yes it has been more than a year since there was new episode of Mad Men.

Episode Title: "Believe"
Written By: Nicole Yorkin & Dawn Prestwich
Synopsis: The spotlight shines on Doctor Bryce Varley (Zachary Knighton) as we learn the reason behind his blackout-botched suicide attempt and his consequently renewed faith in life — which has something to do with the beautiful Keiko Arahida (Yuko Takeuchi), a low-level Japanese business woman with a thing for sushi and tattoos. The Mosaic Team gets some insight into Demetri Noh's (John Cho) future murder, while Aaron Stark (Brian F. Lovesick: The episode's main plot dealt with Bryce's secret cancer affliction and his flash-forward romance with Keiko. With the departure of Marc Guggenheim, this leaves me a little dismayed with FlashForward and last night’s episode was a bit of departure and not that good. It did, however, expand on some characters, rather than just focusing on Fiennes and Cho. We spent time getting to know Courtney B. Vance’s character of Stanford Wedeck, who is Head of the FBI La office, and Christine Wood’s character Janis Stark.
We open on Fiennes, Cho, Vance and guest star Barry Henley as Agent Vreede, walking out of some building. Fiennes and Vance are talking and Vance says something about not telling anybody anything about his [Fiennes] flash forward or they are”d.o.a.” Fiennes is on the phone with Janis Hawk telling her something about funding.
