There are 86 categories at the Grammy Awards, too many to present during a single prime time telecast, so the awards are handed out in two parts. The main ceremony airs live on CBS at 8:00pm Eastern/5:00pm Pacific, and it’s there we’ll find out who claims the top prizes: Album of the Year, Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best New Artist, among others. But most of the story of this year’s awards is told in the afternoon at the Premiere Ceremony. Read on as I live blog the event and what its results might mean for the prime time kudos. Watch them streaming live online on Grammy.com or on the Recording Academy’s YouTube channel starting at 3:30pm Eastern/12:30pm Pacific.

The stars and sun aligned on the Grammy red carpet this warm Sunday at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. Prominent artists and entertainers arrived in iridescent one-pieces, print dresses and colorful suits in anticipation of a spectacular evening.
Las Vegas is hosting the 2022 awards instead of the usual New York/Los Angeles metro regions. The pandemic bumped this year’s event from its originally scheduled Los Angeles date in January. The Daily Show’s Trevor Noah hosts for the second year in a row.

The event from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas will be available on CBS for broadcast and cable television watchers, and there will be a live online stream and on-demand versions on Paramount+.

LeVar Burton will host the Grammys’ “premiere ceremony,” the pre-telecast afternoon event during which the vast majority of winners will be announced April 3.
The Grammys-before-the-Grammys will get underway at the the MGM Grand Conference Marquee Ballroom in Las Vegas at 12:30 p.m. Pt/3:30 Et. The early unveiling of winners be available for streaming on the Recording Academy’s YouTube channel as well as at live.grammy.com.
With fewer than 20 categories typically being announced on the air during the prime-time CBS telecast, that means more than three-quarters of the night’s 86 winners will likely be announced during the afternoon event.
A number of performances will be sprinkled into the premiere ceremony, as is customary, with country star and best new artist nominee Jimmie Allen and thrice-nominated Americana artist Allison Russell among those set to lend a tune in the ballroom. Fellow nominees Ledisi, Mon Laferte and Curtis Stewart will perform as well.

In February 2016, Jamey Johnson arrived at the Cash Cabin Studio in Hendersonville, Tennessee, to transform a Johnny Cash sketch into a full-fledged song. The result of that session arrives Thursday with the Rolling Stone Country premiere of “California Poem,” one of a number of new tracks on a deluxe edition of the album Forever Words. Originally released in 2018, the LP put Cash’s unfinished writings, poems, and lyrics into the hands of artists like Chris Cornell, Ruston Kelly, and Brad Paisley.

Set in the scenic foothills of Virginia’s Blue Ridge Mountains, Lockn’ is a Grateful Dead-centric festival that in the spirit of jamband culture focuses on unique collaborations between artists on the bill. Former Dead members have appeared in some configuration at every running of the festival since it started in 2013, and this year the event tapped stadium-filling offshoot Dead & Company to headline two nights. Among the many callbacks to the songs of Jerry Garcia, the festival included acts that cover a wide breadth of genres, from rock and blues to Americana and roots reggae.

They’ve come a long way from “MMMBop” — and “MMMBop” wasn’t even close to their genesis.
In truth, Isaac, Taylor and Zac Hanson formed their band in 1992, when youngest member Zac (who is actually the third born of seven children) was only 6 years old. So while 2017 may mark 20 years of loyalty even for the most dedicated of Fansons — who first became acquainted with the towheaded brothers over the summer of 1997 during the time of their breakout album Middle of Nowhere and subsequent sold-out arena concerts, Saturday Night Live appearance, Christmas album and adorable Eggo commercial — for Hanson, it’s...

You could argue that most folks – or at least those who'd care enough to nab tickets to a documentary about the Grateful Dead – already know the band's story backwards and forwards. They can tell you that Jerry Garcia started out as a boho banjo player in a jug band, and that he enlisted avant-composer Phil Lesh, fresh-faced folkie Bob Weir, blues aficionado Ron "Pigpen" McKernan and drummer Bill Kreutzmann to form a band. They'll tell you about the acid tests and becoming the San Francisco scene's poster boys. They'll chart...

Chicago – The combining of icon Susan Sarandon and a “smother mother” from New Jersey is unbeatable, especially under the sure hand of writer/director Lorene Scafaria. The distinctive voice that brought us “Seeking a Friend for the End of the World,’ now is taking on mother/daughter relationships in “The Meddler.”
Lorene Scafaria is originally from New Jersey, and the film is somewhat autobiographical. Like Sarandon in the film, Scafaria’s mother moved to Los Angeles after her husband passed away, to be “closer” to her daughter. Prior to all that, Scafaria had graduated from Montclair State in New Jersey, and afterward moved to New York City to write plays.
After acting and writing in NYC, she made the West Coast move in the mid-2000s and landed the screen adaptation of “Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist.” In 2012, her original screenplay “Seeking a Friend for the End of the World” was released,...

If you love Metallica, you know all about how great Master of Puppets, Creeping Death, Seek & Destroy and all of the classic tracks are. Metallica’s entire pre-radio play catalogue contains a litany of definitive songs that fans pretty much agree are great.
But there are also lots of Metallica tracks that aren’t as appreciated on such a large scale as the band’s more popular and acclaimed songs. With Metallica playing more and more varied setlists these days, digging into lesser explored corners of their back catalogue, we look at five of the best obscure Metallica tracks.

Sioux Falls, S.D. — Amid rumors of another "Tonight" show shake-up, comedian George Lopez says he has no desire to return to the late-night talk show scene.
Lopez said he had a great two-year run as a late-night talk show host. But, he said, "I'm out of that thing."
"I know all those guys. They're all good guys, but that's a tough job. There are a lot of tough jobs in TV. That could be one of the toughest, hosting a show every night," Lopez said Wednesday night.
Lopez's comments in Sioux Falls before taking the stage for a stand-up show benefiting the Brennan Rock & Roll Academy come after amid fresh turbulence in the late-night talk show business after word leaked last week that "Late Night" host Jimmy Fallon will unseat Jay Leno as the new host of NBC's "Tonight." The network has not confirmed the rumor.

Blues Traveler's harmonica-wielding frontman John Popper visited Fox & Friends in Tampa Monday morning, where he talked about his libertarian views and his issues with Barack Obama, as well as with the two major parties. Popper had performed at Ron Paul's rally Sunday night, and shared with, while he's always been a libertarian and is generally a fan of Paul, he does disagree with him on certain issues, namely foreign policy and abortion.

You know a Beats Antique song when you hear it. The group has a very unique dance fusion sound that would be tricky to even emulate. Normally, I hate using the term “fusion,” but it’s necessary to describe the musical concoction that Beats Antique manages to create. A smorgasbord of varying sounds – the group funnels all of their personal music palettes together resulting in an electronic tribal sound that is ridiculously catchy. Oh, and did I mention they have a full-time belly dancer in their ranks?
I was shocked to discover that the group only consists of three members: multi-instrumentalist David Satori, percussion extraordinaire Tommy Cappel, and sultry Zoe Jakes, a mesmerizing belly dancer. Satori boasts a degree in music performance and composition from the California Institute of the Arts. Cappel is a proud grad as well with a degree in studio drumming from the iconic Berklee College of Music in Boston.

All double entendre jokes aside (and there are many of them), we couldn’t be more excited about — get this! — an upcoming reality show on Lifetime! Ever since the network did away with The Golden Girls reruns (and somehow made Project Runway boring), we haven’t paid much attention to their programming block. But that is about to change, now that they’re set to air a show about Roseanne Barr, who lives on a macadamia nut farm in Hawaii. Even the graphic for the show looks like a Nintendo game from the early nineties (that’s a good thing!). How can we not be excited for this? Roseanne is clearly both out of her mind and endlessly brilliant (and also a fully engaging point of reference for anyone who read her recent thought-provoking New York Magazine piece about being a woman in comedy). Needless to say, the only possible...
