Paris-based sales house Charades has sold the Argentinian Western-inspired documentary “Gaucho Gaucho” across much of Europe.
The film — which won a Sundance Jury Prize in January and recently played at Cph:dox — has landed deals with Tandem (France), Filmin (Spain), Selmer Media, M2, Praesens (Switzerland) and Bantam Films (Benelux). Variety understands a U.K. sale is currently under discussion.
Directed by Michael Dweck and Gregory Kershaw, the duo behind the box office hit “The Truffle Hunters,” “Gaucho Gaucho” explores the story of a community of cowboys and cowgirls in Northern Argentina who live outside the modern world.
Produced by Dweck and Kershaw for Beautiful Stories Prods., the film is shot in black-and-white and celebrates the beauty and passion of a group of skilled Argentine cowboys and cowgirls, known as gauchos. It weaves together a mosaic of tales about gauchos confronting the fragility of their world in the face of unprecedented change.

Embankment have launched global sales on “Born Wild,” the feature documentary from director Adam McClelland.
Described as an “epic and intimate story of humankind’s deep connection with animals,” “Born Wild” is set in North Carolina’s storm-beaten but beautiful coastline, where humans and wild mustang horses live side-by-side.
The horses have existed there since the first colonies but now are fighting for survival.
“These two dwindling groups of survivors must learn from and support each other if they are to last in this delicately balanced environment between land and sea, already fast disappearing as the effects of climate change take hold,” reads the logline.
McClelland (“Keepers of The Wild”) has spent the past two years embedded in The Outer Banks in North Carolina, documenting not only residents and conservationists but also climate change experts and, of course, the horses themselves.

“Moment of Truth,” the new five-part docu-series about the murder of basketball legend Michael Jordan’s father, doesn’t provide definitive evidence about why James Jordan was killed in 1993 after he pulled over to the side of the road in North Carolina, or prove who pulled the trigger. But what it does illustrate is the many miscarriages of justice that took place in the lead up to the conviction of Daniel Green, a Black man, and Larry Demery, his white friend, for the crime.
“This crime and the subsequent trial and convictions speak to a larger conversation about systemic racism in the criminal justice system,” says Matthew Perniciaro, the director of “Moment of Truth.” “One of the saddest parts of the story is looking at how little progress has been made in those systems in the decades since this crime occurred.”

Feder not only puts members of the trans community front and center but he also made sure that they were represented behind the camera as well. This way, it was a film about trans people made by trans people, marking a genuine effort of authenticity.

HBO has given a series order to the skateboarding comedy “Betty” from “Skate Kitchen” director Crystal Moselle and “Love” co-creator Lesley Arfin.
Inspired by Moselle’s critically-acclaimed 2018 Sundance hit “Skate Kitchen,” the six-episode series is set against the backdrop of New York City and follows “a diverse group of young women navigating their lives through the predominantly male oriented world of skateboarding.”
Rachelle Vinberg will reprise her role from the film, starring in the series as Camille, a young skater who “wants to be down with the dudes and has fought hard for the small space she’s carved out with them.” She’ll be joined in the series by a few “Skate Kitchen” co-stars, including Nina Moran as Kirt, Kabrina Adams (aka Moonbear) as Honeybear, Dede Lovelace as Janay and Ajani Russell as Indigo.

HBO Films has slotted April 6 as the debut date for Native Son, the Rashid Johnson-directed drama that the premium cabler made a splashy deal for last month at Sundance where the film had its world premiere. This announcement, which was made by HBO Films president Len Amato, also included a first-look teaser. See the video above.

Exclusive: Here is Elisabeth Moss as you’ve never seen her, looking and acting more like Hole-era Courtney Love than Mad Men-period Peggy Olson. In this first look at director Alex Ross Perry’s Her Smell, Moss plays a kohl-eyed punk rocker (who seems to be having a very public backstage meltdown). The film has its world premiere Sunday in the Platform section of the Toronto Film Festival.
