A new episode of the Best Horror Movie You Never Saw video series has just been released through the JoBlo Horror Originals YouTube channel, and in this one we’re taking a look back at writer/director Larry Cohen’s 1985 film The Stuff (watch it Here), about a delicious dessert that has a strange effect on the people who consume it. We’ve previously talked about how Cohen made the concept of a killer baby work in It’s Alive, now find out how he made the idea of deadly dessert work by checking out the video embedded above!
The Stuff has the following synopsis:
It’s smooth and creamy! It’s delicious! It isn’t filling! It’s taken the country by storm… and it kills! It’s The Stuff! The newest taste sensation is outselling ice cream two-to-one and merchants can’t keep up with the voracious demand. In...

“Stranger Things 2” returns just in time for Halloween, both in the real world and in the eerie town of Hawkins, Indiana conceived in the nostalgic minds of The Duffer Brothers. The action picks up three days before Halloween 1984, which means that the year will soon be coming to a close. For those who may not have been alive or perhaps have a shaky memory of the time, 1984 was a big year for memorable events and in pop culture.
The first season reveled in bringing the time period alive in all of its totally ‘80s glory, from Dungeons & Dragons gaming sessions and Eggo waffles to homages to “E.T.,” “The Shining,” and “Rambo.” Hell, even star Winona Ryder’s presence is a timely tribute since she made her early career in such iconic ‘80s films as “Lucas,” “Beetlejuice,” and “Heathers.”

Just in case you've been living in the Upside Down, let me get you up to speed: Stranger Things Season 2 is officially happening. And as revealed by the show's unreasonably-attractive creators the Duffer Brothers, the new episodes will be set a year after the events of the first season, which would place the characters squarely in the latter days of 1984 (Season 1 took place between November and December of 1983). While that's not a whole lot later, it's still enough time for a massive number of pop-culture and consumer products to have been introduced in the interim, from film to TV to music to technology. So what, pray tell, will Mike, Dustin, Lucas, Nancy, Jonathan and Steve (but not Barb, obvs) be using, watching, wearing, reading and listening to in the new season that wouldn't have been available to them in the prior timeline because they didn't exist yet? For those curious...

Forget Caltiki and forget The Blob: 'The Stuff' doesn't eat you, you eat it! Larry Cohen takes a page from Professor Quatermass for this satirical slap at blind consumerism and unregulated commerce, in a thriller packed with ooky glob-monsters and people hollowed out like Halloween pumpkins. It's the smart side of '80s sci-fi: Cohen knows how to make the genre sustain his anti-establishment themes. The Stuff Blu-ray Arrow Video (Us) 1985 / Color / 1:85 widescreen / 87 min. / Street Date April 19, 2016 / Available from Amazon / 39.95 Starring Michael Moriarty, Andrea Marcovicci, Garrett Morris, Paul Sorvino, Scott Bloom, Danny Aiello, Patrick O'Neal, Alexander Scourby, Harry Bellaver, Rutanya Alda, Brooke Adams, Laurene Landon, Tammy Grimes, Abe Vigoda, Clara Peller, Patrick Dempsey, Mira Sorvino, Eric Bogosian. Welcome to No Fact Zone’s weekly roundup of cultural references on The Colbert Report. From Darcy to Danger Mouse, String Theory to Shakespeare, we’ve got the keys to this week’s obscure, oddball, and occasionally obscene cultural shout-outs (hey!).
Cheerio Zoners! Another smashing week on the Report! It was great to catch a glimpse into British culture. I usually only get that from my favorite Brit Coms. I nearly broke a rib laughing during the tea segment! And how about James Franco? He really is living my dream. If I had the chance, I’d go back to school in a heartbeat! What were your favorite segments?

Our Big Shill bracket game has moved into its quarterfinals, PopWatchers, and today’s two matchups have the potential to be historic duels. First, you have Snap, Crackle, and Pop triple-teaming the Pillsbury Dough Boy, evoking memories of the Ghostbusters taking on the giant Stay Puft marshmallow man. And then, in a contrast of styles, prim Mrs. Butterworth rolls up her sleeves to slug it out with the Wendy’s “Where’s the Beef” lady. This is why they train. This is why Mrs. B. gets up at five in the morning and eats that extra pancake. This is why...

Never underestimate the power of advertising. All it takes is a cute cat, an eccentric character, or, heck, a nebulous blob suffering a severe identity crisis, to encourage us to head over to our local grocery store/convenience store/bar, etc., to pick up corporate America’s latest offering. That’s why this month, we’re bringing you EW’s Big Shill bracket game, which celebrates the country’s finest advertising icons — and pits them head-to-head in a battle for supremacy. In our first round, Six Flags’ Mr. Six dances off against Wendy’s “Where’s the Beef” lady in the Human Category,...
