In 2009, he revealed that he still received letters from fans of Juliet Bravo (1980), 24 years after it had finished.
He has three children.
Before working as a professional actor, he worked as a primary school
teacher and then during a summer, as grave digger. He then decided to
attend the Rose Bruford College of Speech and Drama in Kent.
He was considered for the roles of Roger Derebridge, Lamson and Kelly in Lifeforce (1985).
His son, Benjamin Peel, is a graduate of Guildford School of Acting and works as a writer.
