We’ve got a new trailer here for you to watch for Hulu’s upcoming six-episode limited World War II series Catch-22. The show is based on Joseph Heller’s acclaimed novel and it was directed by George Clooney, who also stars in this film.
I love the tone of this series as it has a very Coen Brothers type vibe to it with the writing and storytelling style. Clooney takes on the role of Scheisskopf and is joined by Kyle Chandler as Colonel Cathcart, Hugh Laurie as Major de Coverley, and Christopher Abbott as Yossarian, a U.S. Air Force bombardier who is angry not only at the enemy who continues trying to kill him, but also at his own army which regularly puts him in harm’s way.

Based on Joseph Heller’s seminal novel of the same name, Catch-22 is the story of the incomparable, artful dodger, Yossarian (Christopher Abbott).
Yossarian is a Us Air Force bombardier in World War II who is furious because thousands of people he has never met are trying to kill him.
But his real problem is not the enemy, but rather his own army which keeps increasing the number of missions the men must fly to complete their service.

Yet if Yossarian makes any attempt to avoid his military assignments, he’ll be in violation of Catch-22.

“That’s some catch, that Catch-22.” You said it, Yossarian.
Hulu dropped the trailer for its upcoming adaptation of the classic Joseph Heller novel “Catch-22” Wednesday morning, revealing the titular problem at hand for everyone in the George Clooney-led World War II limited series. The dilemma being, you can only get grounded if you’re crazy — but as soon as you ask to get out of combat duty, you’re no longer crazy, so you have to fly more missions.
According to the doctor that Yossarian (Christopher Abbott) is trying to get help from in the trailer above, it’s “the best catch there is.”

If you’ve followed the news at all today, you know Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen abruptly resigned amid tension in the Trump administration over its failure to stop Central American migrants from crossing the southern border.
President Donald Trump tweeted news of Nielsen’s departure at 6:02 p.m. Et. He wasted no time lining up an acting replacement and immediately announced on Twitter: “Kevin McAleenan, the current U.S. Customs and Border Protection Commissioner, will become Acting Secretary for Dhs. I have confidence that Kevin will do a great job!”
Catch-22 executive producer Grant Heslov compared the “absurdity” of what was happening in Washington to events in the Hulu limited series he co-produced with George Clooney.

Stars: Hermione Corfield, Jay Paulson, Micah Hauptman, Daniel R. Hill, Sean O’Bryan, Jeremy Glazer | Written by Julie Lipson, Stu Pollard | Directed by Jen McGowan
Rising British star Hermione Corfield takes the lead in Rust Creek, an engaging low budget survival thriller that starts out like a Wrong Turn knock-off but becomes something more substantial instead.
Directed by Jen McGowan, Rust Creek centres on Kentucky college student Sawyer Scott (Corfield), who impulsively decides to skip Thanksgiving with her family and drive to Washington D.C. for a job interview. However, her Gps strands her in the frozen backwoods, where she has an encounter with scuzzy meth-dealers Hollister (Micah Hauptman) and Buck (Daniel R. Hill) that leaves her injured and fleeing for her life.
After collapsing, Sawyer is rescued by meth cook Lowell (Jay Paulson) and hides out in his trailer, though she’s not entirely sure she can trust him.

I Am the Night Episode 4
I Am the Night episode 4, "Matador," puts the pieces at play as Sepp (Dylan Smith) wiles away the hours by a poolside chessboard at Dr. Hodel's (Jefferson Mays) mansion. The doctor's protégé is an imposing figure, even in the course of a retreat, having just moved from a four-move to a two-move checkmate. His boss isn't happy with him, as he lost track of Fauna Hodel (India Eisley), the most important piece on the board.
Sepp may have been keeping the conversation less than lively with Dr. Hodel's clientele, but his silent demeanor, and barely contained rage, makes him appear like a trained dog. The doctor then proceeds to treat his potential patients the same way,...

I Am the Night Episode 3
I Am the Night episode 3, "Dark Flower," opens in 1945, two years before the January 15, 1947 murder of 22-year-old actress Elizabeth Short. The Black Dahlia is a conspiracy theorist's wet dream. Still unsolved, the suspects in the case all had fascinatingly perverse backgrounds. George Hodel, who came to the attention of the officers covering the gruesome death after an underage, incest-rape trial, had one of the most perverse.
Well-known to the police and well treated by them, Hodel was renowned for his Hollywood parties. They were lavish affairs held at his mansion, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright's son, which was modeled after a Mayan temple. The place had its own ill repute. "Dark Flower" opens at one of the parties, in this...

I Am the Night Episode 2
I Am the Night episode 2, "Phenomenon of Interference," closes the gap between the two leads: Fauna Hodel (India Eisley), who just found out her grandfather is a rich Hollywood doctor, and Jay Singletary (Chris Pine), a reporter who is hell-bent on reopening old family wounds.
Fauna is settling in at her new home base in the opening and it's a little unsettling, especially to her cousin Tina (Shoniqua Shondai), who has to show her how to navigate L.A.'s mass transit system. On the way to the rich side of town, Fauna witnesses a racial incident on a bus that spills over to the streets. On one hand, it shows the heavy-handedness of the city cops' response, but it...

I Am the Night's pilot opens with an insistent beat made ominous by a camera which feels like it's bringing a malicious force to a sleepy house in Sparks, Nevada. The year is 1965 and the scene at the house is a mom getting her daughter ready for school. "It's right when I say it's right," we hear Jimmy Lee (Golden Brooks) tell her daughter Fauna, and we already get the sense of the home life dynamic. There's going to be some rancor bubbling under the surface, and rebellion. The young teen chides her mother with "who needs school anyway?" and her mom warns her that she's "different than that" loser talk. And now we see a protective mom who has a reason to be protective.

For the cast and crew of TNT’s new mystery drama “I Am the Night,” filming in the John Sowden House was all too real. Nicknamed the “Jaws House” for its sharklike facade, the famous Los Angeles residence was once home to Dr. George Hodel, a well known Hollywood gynecologist in the 1940s and prime suspect in the Black Dahlia case.
The limited series tells the true story of Fauna Hodel, a young girl played by India Eisley who finds out that she’s Dr. Hodel’s biological granddaughter. Alongside Jay Singletary (Chris Pine), a washed up journalist obsessed with the Black Dahlia murder, the two delve into the secrets of the past and soon get twisted up in the surreal world of Dr. Hodel.
Variety spoke with the stars of the show, along with director Patty Jenkins, at Thursday’s premiere at the Harmony Gold Theater in Los Angeles.

It’s hard to choose a single moment that best exemplifies the hard-edged feminist lens at work in director Jen McGowan’s chilling “Rust Creek,” but the image of the teenage Sawyer (Hermione Corfield) gruffly ripping off her acrylic nails to scale a ditch is a top contender. It’s a move that might be perceived as funny in a more commercial genre film, but is entirely believable in McGowan’s understated and plausible nightmare — making it all the more chilling.
Intimate in scope to its great advantage, “Rust Creek” begins and ends with Sawyer’s journey, with a stable of male friends and foes providing color and intrigue. When she receives word of a job interview in Washington D.C., the soon-to-be college graduate hops in her red SUV and hits the road. Following her navigation app, Sawyer turns off the highway to avoid traffic, and quickly finds herself...

Finding a new way into an old story is a framework to which television is uniquely suited, but it’s also trickier than it may seem. A show can take its time delving into different chapters of any single narrative, broadening and deepening perspectives that other adaptations may have given short shrift. But in trying to be comprehensive, a show can also default to tried-and-true tropes by flattening the characters into facsimiles rather than fleshing them out as people.
Such is the conflict at play in “I Am the Night,” TNT’s ambitious new noir drama, created by Sam Sheridan and executive produced by “Wonder Woman” helmer Patty Jenkins (who directed the first two episodes). Typical to the start of a new year, specialty newcomers are rather few this weekend. Holiday and awards holdovers are still at center stage, while the Sundance Film Festival looms toward the end of the month. This weekend, Katherine Waterston, Michiel Huisman, Michael Shannon and Luke Evans star in Tribeca premiere State Like Sleep, opening Friday day-and-date via the Orchard. The film is the second narrative feature by Meredith Danluck. Hermione Corfield, Jay Paulson and Micah Hauptman star in IFC Midnight’s thriller Rust Creek by Jen McGowan, which also will roll out day-and-date. And Well Go USA is releasing Chinese action title Mojin: The Worm Valley, the follow-up to Mojin: The Lost Legend, which the company released stateside in 2015.

Too often, filmmakers forget that less can be more. Luckily, the creative forces behind Rust Creek, a new thriller hitting theaters, they know this. Within the first ten minutes, the action and story are already set into motion. Independent cinema like this is always preferable to overly pretentious fare. This flick just wants to tell a lean, mean, and razor sharp story. Without question, they do. This is a really solid film that only pauses to breathe once a breath needs to be taken. It suggests a real strong future for the filmmakers and especially for its star, who is a real find. As mentioned above, the movie gets down to it rather quickly. Sawyer Scott (Hermione Corfield) is a college student with a plum job interview scheduled in Washington D.C. in a few days. En route, she winds up getting horribly lost in the maze-like Kentucky forest. One...

When Sawyer Scott (Hermoine Corfield) receives the call she’s been waiting for, she can’t help but smile. It’s the first step towards a post-collegiate future with a job in Washington DC all but secured — the tiniest bit of uncertainty preventing her from telling her folks why she won’t be home for Thanksgiving despite high spirits. She packs her SUV, activates her phone’s Gps, and sets off east with an impromptu detour through the backwoods of Kentucky courtesy of a traffic jam on the highway. The computerized voice sends her to a dead-end that barely looks like it ever was a road and then to a bridge she’s unsure will support the weight of her car. Maybe switching to analog (a paper map) will get her back on track.
Unfortunately for Sawyer, Rust Creek isn’t the type of place to help unsuspecting travelers escape.

Happy almost 2019, dear readers! The holiday season is nearly over, but rather than let that get you down, why not indulge in some great horror movies coming our way over the next few months? Usually, the winter season of genre releases can be something of a mixed bag in terms of quality, but there some impressive projects coming out in the next few months that have me extremely excited as a horror fan. The two films that are my most anticipated are (of course) Us from Jordan Peele and Christopher Landon’s sequel Happy Death Day 2U, but I’m also very intrigued by what I’ve seen from films like Greta, Glass, Braid, Captive State, and Escape Room so far, and am really looking forward to seeing how those stories come together onscreen as well.
We also have a new sci-fi movie featuring Keanu Reeves getting released in the coming months,...

A new trailer has been revealed for the dramatic thriller Rust Creek. This film, from Kentucky, had its World Premiere at the Betonville Film Festival earlier this year. In the film, a young woman and college senior finds herself in trouble, when her car breaks down. She is found by a stranger, in the woods as her pursuers close in. Rust Creek centrally stars: Hermione Corfield (Pride and Prejudice and Zombies) as Sawyer, along with: Micah Hauptman (In Stereo), Jay Paulson and Sean O'Bryan. A preview of the film's January release is available now. The trailer shows Sawyer, with car problems. Two men stop to supposedly help her. However, they have other intentions and Sawyer is chased in the local woods. It appears as if she escapes and is found by another character, Lowell (Paulson). Now, both characters face Sawyer's attackers. But this time, Sawyer is ready for this threat.

"If they find you here, they'll kill ya." IFC Midnight has released a trailer for Rust Creek, an indie survival thriller from filmmaker Jen McGowan which premiered at the Bentonville Film Festival earlier this year. IFC Midnight has acquired U.S. rights to Rust Creek, a thriller directed by Jen McGowan, penned by Julie Lipson and starring Hermione Corfield. The label plans for a January theatrical release.
Corfield, in her first leading role, plays Sawyer, an ambitious, overachieving college senior with a seemingly bright future. While on her way to a job interview, a wrong turn leaves her stranded deep in the frozen Kentucky woods, where she’s punished by the elements and pursued by a band of ruthless outlaws. She is forced into an uneasy alliance with an enigmatic loner (Jay Paulson) with shadowy intentions to escape alive. Sean O’Bryan, John Marshall Jones, Micah Hauptman, Daniel R. Hill and Jeremy Glazer co-star.
The story comes from Lunacy Productions’ Stu Pollard, who also produced. McGowan’s debut feature, 2014’s Kelly & Cal, was also released by IFC.
