TelevisaUnivision is getting more entrenched in TV’s measurement wars.
The Spanish-language media giant is teaming up with data company VideoAmp, one of a growing number of audience-measurement companies whose services are being tapped as TV networks mull alternatives to Nielsen, the industry’s de factor arbiter of audience size. Under terms of the pact, TelevisaUnivision will use VideoAmp’s data in a suite of advanced advertising solutions, giving advertisers a better sense of the viewers they are reaching and their responses to commercials.
The company believes the agreement may help in its quest to draw a larger number of national advertisers to its client pool. “There are hundreds of advertisers who still don’t understand the value of the U.S. Hispanic consumer and are hesitant to spend here,” says Dan Aversano, senior vice president of data, analytics and advanced advertising at TelevisaUnivison, in an interview. “With this new capability,...

Giant alien creatures spread to the Middle East in the sequel Monsters: Dark Continent. Here's Ryan's review...
Giant bioluminescent space creatures dominated the horizon but not the plot in Gareth Edwards’ breakthrough film, Monsters. Shot run-and-gun style by Edwards and a tiny crew, Monsters was an unusual blend of road-trip drama with light touches of sci-fi; its focus was the growing friendship between a photograph journalist (Scoot McNairy) and his boss's daughter (Whitney Able) travelling across a Central America ravaged not so much by the title’s Lovecraftian kaiju but by a military intent on keeping them well away from American soil.
Monsters’ success saw Edwards move to Hollywood, where he’s so far headlined the daddy of all kaiju movies, Godzilla, and now set to head up another pop culture giant - the Star Wars spin-off, Rogue One. This left production company Vertigo with a potential franchise on its hands,...

"Tusk" is all sorts of f**ked up.
The latest from the mind of director Kevin Smith ("Mallrats," "Red State") promises to challenge your assumptions about his filmmaking, and that's putting it lightly. The lone female in the leading ensemble, Genesis Rodriguez, is as gung-ho about the movie as an actor can be, even though she's a self-professed "scaredy cat."
Since the movie is nearly impossible to encapsulate in a short space, we'll just say it involves Justin Long getting kidnapped and transformed into a walrus. Let that sink in. Rodriguez plays Long's unfaithful girlfriend, Ally, who journeys to Manitoba to rescue him alongside Haley Joel Osment and an A-list actor in an unexpected cameo (he's revealed below).
Moviefone Canada chatted with Rodriguez at the Toronto Film Festival, and she candidly discussed her own wimpy tendencies and working with the outstanding cast. She also has a few words for the people who are badmouthing "Tusk.

First comes a warning.
Some Spoilers For ‘Twin Peaks’ & ‘Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me’ Contained
Everyone has their white whale; that elusive treasure or goal that they fetishise and dare to find and covet. For some it was the lost footage from Fritz Lang’s Metropolis. For others it was the mythical buried reels of The Wicker Man, which rather ludicrously had been rumoured for years to be buried in the concrete foundations of an English motorway. For me it was always the deleted scenes of David Lynch’s much maligned Twin Peaks prequel Fire Walk with Me. Even in a pre-internet, pre-dvd extras age, I obsessed over this rumoured material and what possible insights it may offer into Lynch’s labyrinthian mystery. And now, thanks to the Twin Peaks: The Entire Mystery Blu-ray set, they are finally here. So how do they stack up? What do they tell us?...

"Maleficent" week on Moviefone continues with this inside look, provided by Disney, at how the artists and designers behind the movie created the iconic villainess's style -- horns and all.
Bringing the evil Maleficent -- who first appeared in Disney's classic animated 1959 film "Sleeping Beauty" -- to life in this year's live-action "Maleficent" involved the acclaimed talents of Oscar(R)-winning actress Angelina Jolie and a team of artists and designers dedicated to create the villainess's uniquely wicked style.
Everyone familiar with Disney's classic "Sleeping Beauty" knows what the animated Maleficent looked like, so getting the look right for the live-action film was important to both director Robert Stromberg and Angelina Jolie. "Angelina was really passionate about not only who the character was, but what the character looked like," says Stromberg. "We worked together to come up with a character that wasn't that stereotype image but was close enough that...

Over the summer, we learned about Kevin Smith's strange new horror film Tusk, based on a real newspaper article he had read about a man who was lost at sea for six months with a walrus and was now looking for a roommate. But there's a catch: the resident was required to wear a walrus costume for 2 hours a day, acting like his former aquatic friend. Smith called the film a "cuddly version of The Human Centipede," and he's been in production on the film since November 4th, and he's only got a few more days of shooting in order as production will wrap on Friday. Smith has been posting some boring photos from the set (though no sight of stars Justin Long and Michael Parkes just yet), but his latest is awesome. Look! Here's a picture of a half-walrus, half-man creature. Is this the ultimate dream of the creepy landlord?...

Kevin Smith hit upon a nifty idea a few days ago when he agreed to show the world the first character poster for horror film Red State: he asked fans and followers on Twitter to donate more than $1,000 in 30 minutes to the Wayne Foundation, an organisation that helps runaway and abducted kids who fall prey to sex crimes. Modifying that model, he has now auctioned off the rights to host the next poster, which this time features the film’s Big Bad, religious fundamentalist Abin Cooper (Michael Parkes). After some frenzied bidding that again lasted around 30 minutes (we did our best, but couldn’t raise enough, even when we held our own Nick de Semlyen upside down and shook him), Giant Fire Breathing Robot won out, pledging $2,000, which Smith is matching for a grand total of $4,000.This time, the charity in question is author Mitch Albom’s Have Faith Haiti appeal,...
