With there being an overlap between wrestling fans and horror fans, it only made sense for WWE Studios to produce See No Evil. And much like The Rock’s Walking Tall and John Cena’s The Marine, this 2006 slasher was designed to jumpstart a popular wrestler’s crossover career; superstar Glenn “Kane” Jacobs stepped out of the ring and into a run-down hotel packed with easy prey. Director Gregory Dark and writer Dan Madigan delivered what the WWE had hoped to be the beginning of “a villain franchise in the vein of Jason, Freddy and Pinhead.” In hindsight, See No Evil and its unpunctual sequel failed to live up to expectations. Regardless of Jacob Goodnight’s inability to reach the heights of horror’s greatest icons, his films are not without their simple slasher pleasures.
See No Evil (previously titled Goodnight and Eye Scream Man) was a last gasp for a dying trend.

From director Deon Taylor comes a new edge of your seat horror film- Chain Letter.
Nikki Reed (Twilight, New Moon) stars as Jessie, a high-school student addicted to her laptop and cell phone – to every mode of cyber-speech. But suddenly this communication turns from amusement to menace. She and six of her friends become the subjects of a chain letter that is much more than the usual combination of annoyance and guilt. Arriving through e-mail and text message, the letter carries a threat: that if it is not passed on, the party to blame faces an unexpected, horrible death.
Unstoppable and barely believable…this is a message that cannot be deleted. But to forward this message on would ensure the death of a friend – does one save or be saved? As time runs out, the lethal letter’s instructions become more challenging – it is up to the survivors to find...

Image Entertainment will be releasing Deon Taylor's repetitive horror flick Chain Letter on DVD and Blu-Ray February 1st. An unrated version of the film will also be made available for viewers, on this date. Back in February of this year, this reviewer predicted that this film would be a flop (here). To use the latest technological device as the main substance of your plot will start sounding your film's death knell. The reviews are proving this premonition true.
Respected reviewer Scott Weinberg at Fearnet.com says of Chain Letter: "thus [the beginning of Chain Letter] began the inception of one of the silliest, stupidest, and most overtly inept copycat horror flicks in recent memory." A review by Michael Gingold also brings tales of non-terror: "Chain Letter's negligible terror" (Fangoria). It seems even the distributor (Image) did not want to support the title, as the release will only host a trailer as a special feature.

Deon Taylor's fall offering Chain Letter got swallowed up by the pack of box office horror heavyweights so it was fairly easy to miss in theatres. That's okay, though, as Image Entertainment will be bringing the murderous little flick home to DVD and Blu-ray in a couple of months.

Chain Letter, which was released to theaters earlier this month after a long delay by Image Entertainment, is poised to hit DVD Feb. 1. The film, which was a box office failure, after doing only a little over $200,000 on over 400 locations, stars Betsy Russell (Saw 3D), Noah Segan (Dead Girl), Michael J. Pagan (CSI: Miami), Nikki Reed (The Twilight Saga) and Brad Dourif (Child's Play)
Special features are still unclear at this time as Image Entertainment hasn't issued a formal press release. It is also unclear if this will arrive on just DVD or both Blu-Ray and DVD or just Blu-Ray.

Directed by Deon Taylor
Written by Diana Erwin, Deon Taylor, and Michael Pagan
Featuring Nikki Reed, Michael J. Pagan, Noah Segan, Matt Cohen, Cody Kasch, Betsy Russell, Cherilyn Wilson, Brad Dourif, Keith David, Michael Bailey Smith
There is only one appropriate response to a chain letter. Delete. Then unleash your best arsenal of curses that you picked up in the Merchant Marines against the sender.
The same applies to Chain Letter, Deon Taylor’s upcoming horror film. I use the term “film” loosely. The editing and plotting have the choppy grace of a YouTube mashup. But Chain Letter runs 90 minutes long, compounding your suffering.
Rather than watch Chain Letter, you can have the same experience for far less money and agony. Go to the seediest Starbucks in Hollywood. Find the flailing hobo with suspicious stains on his trousers. He’s on the corner, ranting. Buy him a coffee and ask his screenplay idea.

House of Fears is, for the most part, fairly typical slasher fare. It stars a pack of mid-to-late twentysomethings who are killed off one by one, save for a couple of brave brave fighters. It does, however and somewhat surprisingly, keep the gratuitous violence to a minimum, and there's nary a sex scene in sight. However, it doesn't have much else going for it — the writing's not that great, the cinematography's not that great, and the acting's certainly not that great. The overall plot has vague potential — some high school kids break into a theme-park style haunted house the night before its grand opening, only to find that their fears begin coming to life because of a tiny cursed statue!
The fears themselves are for the most part pretty general, ranging from claustrophobia, to a psychotic clown (as if there's any other kind), to being stabbed, to being buried alive.

Why do film studios i.e. Deon Taylor Studios choose to make a movie based off of the latest technological device, or latest fad i.e. chain letter, text messaging? Does this kind of film have staying power? No one remembers the film Text, or the television series Voicemail, but here we have another gimmicky titled film called Chain Letter. Maybe director Deon Taylor (7eventy 5ive) can spark something imaginative in Chain Letter. Yet, the title and synopsis says shallow drivel, despite Taylor's somewhat excellent track record (Night Tales, The Hustle). This is only an opinion, as the film has not been reviewed here, or seen. However, to really excite a viewers' fears look at the mythology that children are raised on i.e. Hansel and Gretel (cannibalism, infanticide), Little Red Riding Hood (attempted murder, mutilation) and others. Have chain letters and a connection to fear sunk deep enough into...

Variety reports that New Films has picked up worldwide rights to the teen-torture flick Chain Letter. The company plans a U.S. release for the movie next year, and sees it as the potential launch of a screen franchise.
Produced by the Saw masterminds at Twisted Pictures and directed by Deon Taylor from a script he wrote with Diana Erwin and Michael J. Pagan, Chain Letter is about a group of high-schoolers who receive the titular messages electronically, and soon learn that failure to pass them on means painful death at the hands of hulking psychopath the Chain Man (The Hills Have Eyes’ Michael Bailey Smith). The cast also includes the Twilight films’ Nikki Reed, the Saw sequels’ Betsy Russell, Deadgirl’s Noah Segan and genre stalwarts Brad Dourif and Keith David; Toolbox Murders’ Dean Jones created the makeup FX.

A couple more cult-fave slasher flicks of the early ’80s receive the special-edition treatment via DVDs that arrive November 24. Fango got the details on a new disc of Mark Rosman’s 1983 The House On Sorority Row (the basis of the current big-screen remake Sorority Row) from Liberation Entertainment, and the DVDebut of 1980’s Silent Scream from the new Scorpion Releasing.
House On Sorority Row, previously issued on a bare-bones disc by Elite, has been given a fresh transfer from a recently discovered print for this 25th Anniversary Edition (even though the film is technically 26 years old). The film is now supplemented with:
Audio commentary by writer/director Rosman Alternate ending Photo gallery Trailer

You know what? I'm super excited about Deon Taylor's upcoming flick under the Twisted Pictures banner, Chain Letter, and not just because the movie has a great cast and is rumored to have some insane kills.
I'm excited because of Taylor himself! Why? Because of his anthology Nite Tales (review here). That little low budget flick had every right to completely suck, but it didn't. True, Flava Flav almost killed it, but he's not in Chain Letter and that's a bonus right there! Taylor's energy and enthusiasm to make a good horror movie won me over. I expect the same from his latest effort.
Chain Letter stars Michael Bailey Smith, Nikki Reed, Noah Segan, Keith David, Betsy Russell, Matthew Cohen, Cody Kasch, Michael J. Pagan, Cherilyn Wilson, and Clifton Powell and tells the tale of a maniac who targets teens when they fail to forward chain mail. Still no word on a release date.
