Las Vegas – James Cameron's 2011 prediction that the future of broadcast is 3D hasn't yet come to pass, but Vince Pace, Cameron's partner in the Cameron|Pace Group, argued Wednesday at the Nab Show that the prediction still holds, and glasses-free 3D may hasten its arrival. "It’s just going through a development cycle to the point when you can sit on a couch and watch without glasses,“ Pace said. “Autostereo [glasses-free 3D] is a model that works. The technology should not be looked at as a white elephant. It makes business sense.” Cpg said Tuesday that

Dolby Laboratories, Philips Electronics and Cameron | Pace Group (Cpg) are teaming to develop a Dolby 3D format which will now be integrated into the Cpg 3D video content production process.
The trio of companies hope to "deliver what we believe to be the best possible 3D experience to consumers—without the need for special glasses" says Cpg founder Vince Pace.
The aim is to bring glasses free 3D TV to the home entertainment scene using the Dolby 3D format to deliver "premium-quality autostereoscopic 3D content".
This would negate the use of special 3D glasses, and do away with a specific "angle of view" so it will offer equally sharp 3D images no matter where you are seated.

Las Vegas -- James Cameron and Vince Pace’s 3D company Cameron|Pace Group gave a big endorsement to the Dolby 3D format, revealing Tuesday that it will integrate the format into its Cpg 3D production workflow. Co-developed by Dolby and Philips, the Dolby 3D format was initiated to support the creation, delivery and playback of glasses-free 3D content on TVs, smartphones, tablets or other mobile devices. “James Cameron broke new ground in entertainment with his use of 3D in film, but it’s been a challenge to bring his vision to the home and to smartphones and tablets,” said Pace.

On September 10th in Union Square, James Cameron and Jon Landau had a special question and answer session while promoting the 3D release of Titanic. Here it is as follows:
Host: Why 3D?
James Cameron: Alright, how many eyes do you have on your face? 2 right? So we’re seeing the world in stereo. Everybody out there does, so it’s the way we perceive the world. I believe all entertainment should be in 3D, and we started to look at doing Titanic in 3D 7 years ago, and it was a part of an overall attempt to build a 3D market. It was something to tell exhibiters who knew I was getting Avatar done in a while, ‘Well, let’s do Titanic in 3D.’ And we didn’t even know at that point if it was even possible. Filmmaker James Cameron says 3D television broadcasting is set for a period of explosive growth now that networks can simultaneously shoot both stereoscopic and 2D at minimal cost.
The filmmaker - who re-popularised 3D with his film Avatar in 2009 - said 3D had now unified the world of movies and television in terms of equipment, which allows development costs to be amortised over a broad spectrum.
"We're ahead of the curve in movies relative to broadcast but we're dealing with the same transition now - the growing pains, the questions and the uncertainty, the doubts, the naysayers, the scoffers - and the success stories," Cameron told an audience at this year's Nab Show alongside his business partner Vince Pace. Until last week, the closest thing to Hollywood I'd seen in the ramshackle working class suburb of Preston in Melbourne's north was Hail lead actor (and ex-con) Daniel P. Now that's gonna change with news that Mr 3D himself, James Cameron, has opened the first international office of his 3D production business in Preston (of all places) with cinematographer Vince Pace. To crib from the press release: Cameron said he hoped the company, Cameron Pace Group, would make it easier for television and filmmakers to adopt 3D technology. Andrew Wight, producer of 3D feature Sanctum, was appointed managing director of Cpg's Australian office. James Cameron has opened the first international office of his 3D technology and production services company, Cameron Pace Group (Cpg), in Melbourne, Australia. Which is great news for Australian film makers as it gives them access to the same technology that made the likes of Avatar possible. The Avatar director said "We are very excited about enabling more world-class 3D productions in Australia, he said. Andrew (Wight) is a longtime collaborator with Vince Pace and myself and I'm proud to have him join the team." Wight has previously produced Sanctum. I wonder how much of an influence Peter Jackson had on Cameron, as New Zealand isn’t exactly too far away from Australia. Regardless, this is a huge boost for the film industry on that side of the globe.

It’s the first foreign office for the company formed by Cameron and director of photography Vince Pace. The Australian office will accomodate growing demand for Cpg’s technology and 3D camera equipment. Cameron and Pace, working with their chief technology officer Patrick Campbell, developed the production system Fusion 3D that was used for Avatar, Hugo, Transformers: Dark Of The Moon, the upcoming Life Of Pi and other movies and live sports events. Cameron praised Wight as a longtime collaborator and Wight said “there is a wealth of creative talent in this country, and now we can provide the 3D know-how and equipment to match that talent.”...

Which means this is going to look amazing in 3D, that's the big selling point. A number of production companies collaborated to bring the film to life. In addition to Cirque, Warner and Adamson's Strange Weather Productions, Reel FX and Cameron Pace Group. "The coupling of filmmaker James Cameron's groundbreaking 3D visual accomplishments and Andrew Adamson's beautiful direction, combined...

You’ll have to forgive my insolence, but the James Cameron-produced, Andrew Adamson-directed 3D Cirque du Soleil film slipped from my mind over the past 13 months. Though I was reminded of it in a pretty positive way (or, as positively as one could take this news): A press release tells us that Paramount has acquired the project, titled Cirque du Soleil Worlds Away.
We aren’t told anything about the story, actors, or wacky contortions in this announcement, but we can nevertheless expect “a truly amazing moviegoeing experience for audiences of all ages.” Even without that information at hand, I’m pretty confident in saying this is a project I’ll only lend some attention toward — primarily because of Cameron‘s technical work in the 3D department. A new movie from the director of Shrek and Narnia just isn’t in my wheelhouse of interest.

James Cameron likes to work with the biggest possible canvas in whatever narrative mode he's in, as evidenced by the expanding scope of his Terminator films, then movies like Titanic and Avatar. As far as physical performance goes, you don't get much bigger than Cirque Du Soleil (as far as name recognition goes, at least) and so Cameron working with the company seems pretty natural. You might remember that James Cameron was working as producer and 3D consultant on a filmed Cirque Du Soleil feature that Andrew Adamson (Shrek, The Chronicles of Narnia) was writing and directing. We first heard about this [1] way back in December of 2010, and news has been quiet on the project since then. Now there is some new info, primarily that Paramount has picked up worldwide rights to the film. The studio press release is below. The info that isn't in the press release is that...

Here's a thought. Supposing at the end of Doctor Who's 26th season, comedy writer supreme Richard Curtis made a last-minute bid to rescue the popular science fiction show from the jaws of death? After all, now that the hugely successful Blackadder had come to an end in 1989, a vacancy would have welcomed Curtis with open arms. Not only that, but a spell as Doctor Who helmsman would have meant no Four Weddings And A Funeral, and more crucially, no Vicar Of Dibley, a crushingly unfunny attempt at sitcom that relied on stereotypical yokel simpletons and blindingly obvious punchlines that could be seen as far away as Uranus. Doctor Who though - now for Curtis, that might have been a different proposition.

James Cameron loves 3-D. He's believed in it from the beginning--in fact, he's personally responsible for the entire industry's move toward 3-D, I was reminded at a Popular Mechanics high-rise lunch in Hearst Tower before Cameron accepted one of the magazine's 2011 Breakthrough Awards (video of his Q & A, which digs into the Avatar sequels, and acceptance speech is below). Even though everyone told him and inventor Vince Pace that 3-D filmmaking was impossible, they rigged two HD cameras together "and figured it out," he said, proving that it could be done. Thus they changed the entertainment industry, for better or worse. (Here's my interview with Cameron about his love of science and exploration for the magazine.) Now he and Pace are testing new ...

Walking With Dinosaurs 3D, the hybrid live-action/CGI family film based on the BBC Worldwide six-part series featuring CGI and animatronic dinosaurs in the Mesozioc period, already has the advantage of associating with a popular touring exhibition, and is likely to be distributed by Fox. Now the film has a marquee name as consultant and a powerful tech partner, as the producers have started working with James Cameron and Vince Pace to get the Cameron | Pace Group stamp of approval for the film's 3D efforts. Cameron told THR [1], Our goal was to create a brand name that was associated with quality in 3D. To do that, we had to have the best technology we could come up with in-house and operate that technology in the field, and most importantly we had to form alliances and partnerships with people who also want to do high-quality 3D. Evergreen and the BBC are perfect examples of this.

Ready to hear what James Cameron is doing these days? No? Well, sorry about that, but this is an official thing, so check it out! He has teamed up with acclaimed cinematographer Vince Pace to form Cameron – Pace Group (Cpg).
Just in case you’re wondering what’s so interesting about that, here’s a little “insight” – this group will seek to accelerate worldwide growth of 3D across all entertainment platforms including features, episodic and live television, sports, advertising and consumer products, pioneering a new generation of camera systems, services and a variety of creative tools that are innovative, powerful and easier to embrace.
Cpg will build upon the strong foundation of Pace and the 3D technology to which its co-founders have individually and collectively contributed, such as the revolutionary Fusion 3D system. In combination, Cameron’s and Pace’s technologies, products and services have been responsible for $4.7 billion of...

We need to talk about James Cameron. Like, really talk about him -- especially after Monday's announcement of his new alliance to develop and enhance 3-D technology for broadcasters. Working alongside cinematographer Vince Pace, with whom Cameron created the Fusion camera system that shot Avatar, the Oscar-winner now plans to "make 3-D ubiquitous over the next five to 10 years on all platforms." We kind of knew this was coming, but do you believe him? Do you even want to believe him?...

All film and TV will be made in 3D soon, says Avatar director as he launches venture promoting industry take-up of technology
Every cinema will be capable of showing 3D films within five years, James Cameron said yesterday at the launch of a new venture which aims to make the technology ubiquitous on both the big and small screen.
The Cameron-Pace Group, which utilises technology developed for the film Avatar, aims to encourage film-makers, broadcasters and games manufacturers to embrace the brave new world of stereoscope. Cameron has partnered with Vince Pace, with whom he worked on the Fusion 3D camera system.
"Our strategic plan is to make 3D ubiquitous over the next five to 10 years on all platforms," Cameron told the Hollywood Reporter. He said he expected to see 100% adoption of the technology in cinemas within three to five years, as well as rapid expansion of the home market.
